  1. Or the ump for calling Lee out (correctly). I don't like Prior out for the 8th. Nice catch by Walker. I think he was under 100 before the inning started.
  2. It might have been leftover from the ump's call. If they really are booing Murton though I hate Cubs fans even more now.
  3. go treebeard go
  4. I think you make defense out of left-field more important than it really is.
  5. Someone start a Dunn thread in social so we can have the same argument in another thread. Dunn is awesome, and he'd be an asset to our offense. That's not debateable. It is debateable on how many prospects he's worth/isn't worth. But it's been done to death already in multiple threads.
  6. thank kent he's ok. you all would feel sour if you were making fun of him and something bad happened! [-X [-X
  7. The Sox, easily. I don't hate the White Sox. I hate the Cardinals.
  8. yeah look at how awesome roger did last year when he started
  9. Alter Bridge really sucks.
  10. The Cubs + Dunn > The Reds + Dunn. Is it fair to say that the lineup that Dunn is a part of is better than a lineup he isn't a part of? I sincerely believe the Cubs lineup with Dunn would be a lot more effective than the Reds current lineup with Dunn. But that wasn't my point anyways. Dunn bats 6th in the Cincy lineup, so the argument was that a big reason that Dunn's OBP is so high is because the Reds #7 hitter is garbage, so Dunn never gets a good pitch to hit. I think the Cubs could offer him better protection than that, so if Dunn was supposedly protected by Ramirez, he would see better pitches to hit, so his AVG and SLG would increase. I don't think the Reds can offer the kind of protection that the Cubs could provide.
  11. there's a moises alou joke in here somewhere
  12. Doesn't this sentence describe 99% of MLB hitters? And not that this disproves or proves your theory, but a quick glance at that link above shows that Dunn has moderate to amazing success against quality pitchers like Clemens, Wood, Lieber, Prior, and Clement. Though Ben Sheets has absolutely owned him...yikes! Obviously that's not scientific, but I think it shows that it's very possible that Dunn is at least league average against quality pitchers, especially when compared to all the other hitters in baseball.
  13. It is great having Hairston and Walker at 1-2, but please don't overlook how the whole lineup's OBP has improved over the last three games. Somewhat related, but I think Barrett's recent approach at the plate has been VERY encouraging. I don't know if he was told to be more patient, or if something in his head clicked in (or maybe it's just one of those weird phenomenon's in baseball and Barrett isn't trying to be more selective), but Barrett's at bats in the Marlins series were almost always awesome. It's a slim sign that maybe management told the players to be less aggressive at the plate, but Barrett's recent approach has left with some semblence of excitement for the 2nd half.
  14. So does the golden ball count for 2 homeruns or something?
  15. Why not? Dunn is better right now than Pie will ever be. If Dunn was 5 years older I would agree with you, but he is only 25 and has plenty of great seasons ahead of him. I highly doubt the Reds would deal their best player without getting the Cubs best prospect. An opportunity to get a player like Dunn doesn't happen very often, so if Cinci needs Pie to deal Dunn, I think we should give him to them. Partly because I don't think Pie becomes a deal breaker. I expect the Reds to counter with Pie, but I think by offering Patterson and better pitchers the deal still gets Dunn. The Reds need pitching and lots of it. One advantage the Cubs could have in trading for Dunn is to offer 2-3 pitching prospects. I also think swapping Patterson for Pie but then offering Dopirak is a better deal for the Reds. If the Cubs put Pie in the deal, then Patterson is out of it and so is Dopirak. Fair enough. I wouldn't be surprised if Cinci wants both Pie AND Dopirak and then someone like Hill though. I personally would do Pie and Dope and Hill for Dunn. It's a huge price to pay prospect wise, but if you factor in that Dunn is our outfielder for 5 years, it becomes worth it. Dunn isn't that much older than most prospects...
  16. The problem is that the Reds have more incentive to deal to the Dodgers than to us. The Dodgers have more sure-fire pitching prospects to offer. The Dodgers are not in their division. The Dodgers (seemingly, since they're in a large market) have just as much cash to play with as the Cubs. And the kicker is that Dunn is a prototypical Depodesta player.
  17. If you're going to say that, then you should also mention that if Dunn had say, hypothetically, Aramis Ramirez protecting him, that Dunn would see better pitches to hit...meaning his AVG and SLG would likely increase.

  19. I'm not sure I'd do Hill for Kearns either. But, I think Jim Hendry is absolutely in love with Kearns, and WOULD do a Hill for Kearns swap if the opportunity came along.
  20. Out of curiousity, how many pitches did Wood throw in his 20 strikeout game?
  21. i call him "miggy" the only reason i kind of like him is because he's the 1st MLB player I saw make the majors who I'm older than. i like da miggy, but hate da marlins
  22. yes, it's a coincidence. hollandsworth wasn't the reason the cubs lost 8 straight.
  23. There's nothing wrong with swinging at the first pitch, if it's a pitch you can hit hard. The most patient hitters in the game will jump at the first pitch if it's something they can drive. If not, they're too predictable and pitchers will just groove a fastball so they start every AB 0-1. i was joking
  24. Hahahaha, Tim McCarver makes more money than I ever will to analyze baseball incorrectly.
