  1. aren't there ever any midwestern superstars who want to stay in the midwest?
  2. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that's awesome. i love randall simon
  3. He's basically Mark Grace sans Gold Gloves. He did have THE prettiest swing though I think I've seen in the MLB. Griffey is a close second. And Mark Grace is better than a lot of people on the ballot.
  4. Not that he'd get in, but it's pretty sad that no one even mentions this guy: http://www.baseball-reference.com/c/clarkwi02.shtml He's not even on the ballot. That seems wrong.
  5. That's a lot of good players for Manny. Yeah. Would it be better if the Red Sox added Clement to the deal? That one article said they were looking to shed Clement's salary.
  6. well, i was exaggerating. i thought it was obvious. maybe this page makes my point for me. http://www.baseball-reference.com/leaders/SB_leagues.shtml
  7. Ross is not only above average, he was arguably the best offensive catcher in the national league, and apparently Bronson Arroyo loves him, so his defense can't be much of an issue. And Javier Valentin is above average offensively, and I've never heard complaints about his defense. What a pointless signing. Krivksy is worse than the previous Reds GM
  8. tony gwynn was pretty one dimensional. and homeruns > batting average. so mcgwire's one dimension was more valuable Tony Gwynn could swipe a bag with some of the best of 'em back in his early days. well i'll be damned, he did. that was also in an era when david ortiz would have swiped 15 bases though.
  9. tony gwynn was pretty one dimensional. and homeruns > batting average. so mcgwire's one dimension was more valuable
  10. yes i can. the rule CLEARLY states that if you bet on baseball, you are banned for life. no room for interpretation. he admittedly bet on baseball, therefore he's banned for life, therefore no hall of fame. sosa is a suspected steroid user. there's never been any proof. as far as the corked bat, he served the exact punishment that baseball rules laid out. he's still very eligible for the hall of fame, and he deserves to get in. bonds especially deserves to get in. pete rose does not.
  11. the guy with a career line of .296/.369/.564 and a career ops+ of 143 should get in, but won't
  12. :( anyone want derwood's xmas present? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v198/rocketsaucetd/derwood.jpg
  13. wasn't it bizarro coors last year for the whole league? wtg humidor
  14. Yup, and our high incidence of double plays didn't help either-12th in the majors in grounding into DP's, even though we had so few baserunners. I wouldn't call 13 points insignificant though-if we could add 13 points to our OBP from last year, we'd go from last to the middle of the pack in the NL. I do agree though that was certainly not our biggest problem, nor is there any real way to make that better except for simply getting better hitters. how about this then, the difference between 11th in ba w/ risp and 6th was .005
  15. i hate suppan because he's a cardinal. not because he's a republican.
  16. someone tell hendry that the cubs were 14th in the league in at-bats with runners in scoring position. the problem isn't that we can't drive runners in while they're in scoring position, the problem is that our runners aren't in scoring position often. hence, we need to get on base more! batting average with risp wasn't a big deal. the cubs were 11th in the national league at it, but it's important to note that the difference between 11th in the league and 2nd in the league was .013, not very significant.

i want to get a little drunk, but i also want some pancakes
  18. what are his politics? how do you even know what his politics are?
  19. Angels center-fielders last year: .281/.345/.388 Gary Matthews Jr. career: .263/.336/.419 awesome. 50 million bucks for a .22 point improvement in ops.
  20. If we can get a decent hitter for SS (Lugo) then I see no problem with letting Pie play CF and hit 8th...he's a great fielder. Why not let Jones play in CF and get Lugo anyways for SS? Pie is interesting but he probably wouldn't outproduce Jones next year, if we truly are going for a World Series championship.
  21. Defense doesn't matter. Petition to ban rolleyes because I'm really tempted to use it. No one ever said defense doesn't matter. I wish that were the case. the closest thing anyone has ever said was that a person's offensive contributions are more important than their defensive contributions. unless you can prove otherwise, you're making things up.
  22. i agree with the sentiment of lugo for ss, jacque for centerfield
  23. wow. all that money and years for a guy whose had only one good whole season, and it was when he was 32.
