  1. So Beltran, K-Rod, Perez and Cash for Zambrano and Fukudome? Hmmmm
  2. Im in, if anything maybe 4-5 good starts would build trade value?
  3. My only concern with not rebuilding is Hendry getting messy with some of the prospects the Cubs have. I would be willing to offer 2 top, 2 mid for Gonzalez not including Castro. What I am hoping for is below: Trade Colvin, Wells, prospect(s) for Adrian Gonzalez Trade Fukudome, $$, and a prospect for Michael Cuddyer (similar salaries both having down years.) Let Snyder/LaHair/Hoff work in with Cuddyer, use Cuddyer as a less defensively talented DeRosa to spell Ramirez. Go for Cliff Lee, but keep eye on Brandon Webb, Tim Hudson or other potential B starters as Lee will most likely go elsewhere. Go for the cheapest, lowest year option on Frasor, Downs, Arthur Rhodes, Putz or other veteran solid reliever. Lineup: (Castro, DeWitt, Ramirez, Gonzalez, Soto, Soriano, Byrd, Cuddyer/(hoff, lahair, snyder). Rotation: Dempster, Zambrano, Hudson/Webb, Gorzelany, Cashner Bullpen: Marmol, Marshall, FA reliever, Guzman(if healthy), Grabow(puke) fill in the rest.
  4. I would much rather use the prospects it will take to get Zach Greinke and throw them towards Adrian Gonzalez (that is if SD decides to trade him).
  5. Given the circumstances it's about the best we could have hoped for. I wouldn't undersell Dewitt. He's got a league average OPS at the moment, turning 25 this month and could start showing power at any point. To get that for under 500k a year until he hits arbitration in 2012 is a pretty darn good haul. If Wallach/Smit add anything, it looks even sweeter. Have to say I agree, can he follow Colvin around this offseason please?
  6. Couple of things I look to happen. I am going on a hunch but I think Hendry uses Wells as bait this offseason. I also see Fontenot going. Would not mind a pick up of a RH bat if Colvin. What I expect: Castro DeWitt Ramirez Soto Pena Soriano Byrd Colvin / (Willingham / Gomes / Nady) Baker Willingham / Gomes / Nady Chirinos Barney Snyder/ LaHair Zambrano Dempster Gorzelany Cashner Diamond / Jackson / Coleman maybe FA What I hope for: Wells, Colvin and Vitters plus maybe 1 or 2 low a prospects for Gonzalez. Crawford Castro Ramirez Gonzalez Soto Soriano Byrd DeWitt Chirinos Baker Gomes Barney Snyder /LaHair Zambrano Hudson / Vasquez Dempster Gorzelany Cashner
  7. As of right now I am still hoping for a Braves vs. Rangers/Rays. I have enjoyed what I have seen of the Rangers this year.
  8. I remember Dodger fans being pretty excited about him around the time of our playoff series against them 2 years ago. It wasn't as much "He's the next Chase Utley" as much as it was "here is another reason why the future is bright with our club, he should be our starter for the next 10 years". If DeWitt can grow to be similar to a Todd Walker type player with slightly better speed and glove than he is a very solid player at 2B.
  9. Talk to Ned get Jerry Sands. May be a long term 1B solution. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?pos=1B&sid=milb&t=p_pbp&pid=543742
  10. You cannot go into into the deadline looking to shed payroll without a general manager can you?
  11. Click for depression Noooooooooooooooooooooooo! Noooooooooooooooooooooooo! He dropped the ball! I listened to the whole press conference and as I heard and saw the quote, I heard many things that made me think Ricketts is not going keep Hendry, it makes perfect sense for him to be in full support of Hendry right now with the trade deadline approaching. I also believe the quote was more in the direction of "Hendry will be our GM going into the offseason and will work with hiring the new manager." That quote says specifically that "Hendry will be our GM NEXT year." No the specific quote was "Jim Hendry will be our GM going INTO next year". He also said Jim hendry is our GM "Full Stop". Which means he is the GM period. That does not mean next week, next month, or next year.... It means current. I am not saying Rickett's is saying Hendry is gone for sure, I am just saying Ricketts is simply taking the business approach and nobody but Tom knows if Hendry is staying yet.

  13. I think if they can take salary on the Dodgers are a great fit for Ted Lilly. I would be interested in Pedroza and Sands out of AA. Sands looks to be a beast but maybe if we handle some salary he could slide into 1B for the Cubs in the near future.
  14. Still probably too little too late but if Ramirez and Lee can have huge second halfs with Byrd and Soriano staying consistent the Cubs could rack up some wins quick. I would love to see a Cardinals sweep next week.
  15. That's different, Pujols is a cardinal duh :-)
  16. With any other GM I'd feel confident in getting value for Lilly, but I'm prepared for something like an Omar Infante + PTBNL. Not a big Hendry fan here but I do not think that is fair or accurate.
  17. Man, I shoulda put down some money on this.
  18. Smart pick.... Papi Surprise pick... Hanley Ramirez I will take Papi to be safe
  19. I still can't see teams offering big money over 3-4 years to him because of his injury history. The Cubs owe him at least $16.6 (with the 2012 buyout), so you're talking at least $50-$60 million over 3-4 years. The mega deals are going to "sure things" (Lee, Mauer, Pujols, Halladay, etc.), not players with a history of injury. Teams are trying to re-sign their own stars and build with young players. I think it is possible an AL team offers Ramirez 4/50 or possible 3/40. how much is his buy out for 2012? If he feels it is likely the Cubs will buy him out maybe thats enough to make him opt out.
  20. What is the general consensus for the desired manager or potentially even GM? Possible manager names: Bobby V. :good: , Joe Torre, Sandberg, Fredi Gonzalez, Trammel, Brenly... any others? Possible GM's: Kevin Towers, Steve Stone (only joking), who else would be a solid option? I would love to have Bobby V, possibly giving Trammel a shot as well. For GM I am not too familiar with who is out there but always liked Kevin Towers, or is there a young GM out there in the mold of Epstein?
  21. But... but... he drives in runs with his glove. Fine...... Alex Cora? :stickman:
  22. I hate to sound optimistic because I do not think this team has a chance, but him getting hot may be big for this year. A big 2-3 week stretch and the cubs may be right back in this. Realistically they only need to pick up 4-5 games by end of July to feel like they have a chance. I'm pretty sure this year is over. That said, there are plenty of reasons to still watch this team. At least until NFL starts. I agree, and kind of hope this team gets "blown up" but crazier things have happened and if Ramirez is getting hot and lee follows with the way the SP has been a good 3 weeks is definitely possible.
