  1. Bradley acting like a jackass all season is not Hendry's fault, the fact that the players in the clubhouse do not seem to miss Bradley is not Hendry's fault... Now signing Bradley is his fault. Hendry is doing the right thing here, unfortunately all signs point to the Cubs being weaker in Right Field next year.
  2. I apologize, I could not resist... In other news, Zambrano is not going anywhere...
  3. I am torn on this because dumping Bradley for nothing seems like a complete waste. However, to me its a major red flag that the players are not even coming close to defending him, and some are basically saying he is a problem. The part that hurts is if Bradley could return to form next year, if he repeats what he did this year it will not be hard to replace the production, but if he goes back to a .900 OPS and Hendry dumps him for nothing it will leave a bad taste. At this point you can argue either point but Bradley will be gone one way or another. As I was one of the bigger Badley fans before and throughout this year, at this point I think the guy is a piece of [expletive] and will care less if he stays or goes. If he was a superstar for more than 1 year of his career I may have more sympathy, but it is obvious Bradley's head may get in the way of him every becoming what he was even in Texas. I think we start talking replacements...
  4. What? Surprised Rios is not on that list..........
  5. The more I watch Kosuke i start to think he is what he is and that is a .255-.260 hitting with a .370-.380 OBP.. yes the OBP is nice at the top but the consistency is the issue... I would see what deals you could make for either Fuku or Bradley, if you can get any return for ONE of the two then trade one of them.. I think this team does need to go in a different direction offensively and unfortunately even if Bradley bounces back a little it seems fairly insufficient to have two 10-15 HR guys who cannot drive in a run in the OF not knowing if Sori can return to form.
  6. I am against trading Z, However if done right (which Hendry has done in trades), maybe the Cubs can get the pieces to go for Vasquez or even Halladay. Then they could also resign Harden, risk Sheets, or go for Lackey... I would prefer Harden or Lackey but even a rotation of Lilly, Demp, Vasquez, Wells, and Marshall/Gorz/FA (Wolf?) would not be terrible as long as the Cubs could keep some depth. Z could potential land the right bat for around Ramirez and Lee.
  7. Looks like Hoffpauir should get the start as he is 2 for 3 with a HR vs Gallardo. Lets have some fun with this. Predictions: Cubs win 5-4 Zambrano: 7 ip, 3 ER, 8 Hits.. Gallardo: 6 1/3 ip, 3 ER 10 hits.. Fuku and MB combine to 5-7 with 2 BB's. Rammy and Hoff each drive in 2.
  8. I would continue to run Bradley in the 2 hole and keep Soto in the #5 spot. With a runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs Soto will get them in, Bradley probably will not. We need as many people on base for Lee and Rammy as possible to win the majority of the remaining games. Soto is starting to rake and Bradley is useless with people on base. I really do not see Theriot getting the bulk of the starts from here on out, he is struggling lately and for the 3rd straight season is wearing down in September and Lou has even acknowledged this. I could see Blanco getting some more time at SS. Fuku Bradley Lee Ramirez Soto Fox/Hoff Baker Theriot/Blanco
  9. Separating the west coast teams may help the Cubs break up losing some games, they do not seem to every play well in SD, LA is hit or miss, and SF might be tough either way with that pitching staff. A lot of the analysis may change as the player do in the offseason... But I like the West coast trips being broken up.
  10. LA would be a good fit for Z if there is a team I can think of off hand... Is it possible Hendry tries to deal of Z and Bradley in separate trades? If so would anyone have interest in Ethier as a centerpiece from the Dodgers? Z's comments will make him less tradeable, as much as I love watching Z he does say some stupid [expletive].
  11. I do not have a problem with a 2 year deal work 3-4 million, if he extends past 2 years I would not be happy about this. I think Gaub should get a shot with Grabow to be the 2 lefties in the pen and if for some reason the Cubs do trade Z, there will be a possible opening for Marshall. Maybe Grabow will just hog tie Miles up in a hotel room and steal whats remaining on his contract so the Cubs do not have to put much else out.
  12. Mo Vaughn really did not slow down too much, was he forced to retire due to a fairly severe injury? Prince is a monster, at 25 he probably has at least 5 more years if not more where he can handle first base.
  13. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090915&content_id=6973488&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc Interleague vs. AL WEST next year. Cubs end the season in Minute Maid vs the Stros.
  14. The only possible way the Cubs sneak back into this is a huge 4 game sweep of the Crew, while San Fransisco sweeps the Rockies. The Giants are sending, Lincecum, Zito, and Cain against the Rockies.. If for some way in HELL both of these scenerios come true than the Cubs could possible open STL 4 back.. Again this is going to take miracles.. I will hold my stance that this season is over, but the dumb cub fan in me still believes in miracles. ( not sure why ).
  15. I think trading Zambrano would lead to disaster next season, really this year the Cubs have been hurt by the loss of Ramirez, having Kevin Gregg on the roster, Mike Fontenot sucking, and Zambrano being hurt. I do not think a major message needs to be sent by trading Zambrano, nor do I think the Cubs would get the proper value in return. Keep Z, come back next year with minor tweaks and upgrades and hope that some players on the team come back to their season averages and others stay healthy(er). This team cannot compete with the Cardinals pitching if they trade Z, if they trade Z the Cubs may as well go on a fire sale and trade Ramirez, try to trade Lee, Fukudome, Bradley and build from there. Do not trade a key piece of this team if you expect to compete next season.
  16. Overall I do not disagree that we will be lucky to get '07 and '08 production from Soriano again, but what some people are making it sound like is that the Cubs are going to get a guy who puts up numbers like Soriano did this year the rest of his career. My point with that is I believe Sori can put up a .800-.850 OPS for the next 3 or 4 seasons. This season was attrocious and it is obvious he was hurt. I believe from 34-37 Soriano can avg. .275/25+HRs/75+ RBI's... Yes his contract is outrageous, but if he can produce close to '07 and '08 for the next 3 years or so than I am not really that concerned. He is however terrible defensively and losing his speed so I am not saying he will be the impact player he once was, but should be a decent bat in the bottom half of the order for the Cubs. Now we just need to hope the Cubs can develop some prospects to contribute everyday to balance out the payroll.
  17. Glad to see he is getting this over with, I may be a rare person here who thinks Soriano still has plenty left in the tank and would not be surprised to see him bounce back in the 5th or 6th spot with a .275/.325/.540 line and drive in 90-100 runs. Hope we can get more than 3 or 4 productive seasons out of Sori from here on out just to help the look of the contract but he does not seem to be aging as well as Hendry predicted.
  18. Even though it does not matter I am down for a four game sweep and Ryan Braun getting "accidentally" beaned 8 times. I just hope we do not see any of the Brewers stupid celebrations in meaningless games.
  19. Poor Ted Lilly, if the Cubs would have been healthy this year and produced even close to last he would be around 17-19 wins and a few less losses.
  20. Come on guys, Jim Hendry says its not fair to the players to say the season is over! Chances are the Cubs are finally hitting their 10 game win streak, too bad its a month too late.
  21. I would not be upset if the Cubs did try Baker everyday, but the problem is that they go into a season not filling which WAS a weakness this season and are relying on more "What If" scenerios to get production at 2B. I do not think we go into next season with a Theriot / Baker combo, I think the only way we see those two on this team is with Theriot at 2B and Baker as a super utility.
  22. Sorry, my initial thoughts were if the Cubs had already upgraded at SS or 2B. I agree Theriot is inexpensive and has produced a little bit but to me is a guy this team would not really miss if we can get a piece or 2 for him. Maybe not necessarily Delmon Young but if Hendry does target a Figgins, Hudson, or someone of that caliber, why not try to use Theriot to upgrade elsewhere and go for defense at SS with Blanco?
  23. There was some talk earlier this year about the Twins being willing to deal Young, if the Cubs could possibly change their middle infield would anyone look into trading maybe working a deal around Theriot for Delmon Young? Delmon would be a solid platoon for Fukudome if they continue to play Fuku that way. Who knows maybe Delmon will improve to the level people expected him to get.
  24. I know this is highly unlikely but I would almost prefer to resign Derosa, trade Theriot and start Blanco at short stop. If they still want more speed and insist on platooning Fukudome than get a faster right handed center fielder. I think Riot could net a good reliever or couple of decent prospects and besides althought he has "grit" moving Theriot to second really will not help make us better if we can get a significant upgrade at short stop. Blanco brings tremendous D, still has some speed, and is left handed (there you go Jim). I just think it will be hard for the Cubs to upgrade at short without wanting to give up a lot. It will also be hard to get "faster" if they do not get a Reyes or Figgins, the outfield is old and slow. Derow/Blanco as a fallback to Theriot/Figgins??? Figgins and Derosa fit the cubs because they can both play different positions when people are tired / hurt. They also allow the cubs to keep Fox and either Fonty or Baker on the bench and get them some AB's. Hopefully we can upgrade at short but I think Hendry will target second base right away.
