  1. I think Pena and DeWitt are both guys who could have big season. I still see DeWitt as a Todd Walker type long term, I think he will start to develop as a solid second basemen under the Cubs. Hope Pena bounces back.
  2. Man what an emotional rollercoaster this week has been for true Cubs fans, we lose our biggest fan, and we regain the player that most of us consider our favorite. I will admit bringing Wood back is a huge emotional lift for the Cubs, even for a questionable team I cannot wait to watch. Kerry is the man, i hope that when I have kids they can latch on to someone who is not only a good player but the type of person Kerry is. Fantastic day to be a Cubs fan.
  3. I'm pretty sure I see Webb as either ace or 2 starter quality or broken down and a waste of money. I find it hard to see a scenario where he settles into a 4th starter spot and pitches like one. 2007 Webb wouldn't be a 4th starter on the Phillies. I have a feeling this is not going to happen, I believe Cash goes to the rotation or the Cubs make a trade. I see the Cubs getting nixed by someone willing to offer more guarranteed.
  4. Good, no reason to trade him to the Yanks unless we get prospects and they pay for him. Z will put up his career averages if he is just left inteh rotation to pitch. He also will win a silver slugger, I do not get why a lot of people think Z is not good at baseball.
  5. No a closer with a 2.63 ERA probably would've been taken out back and shot. Why didnt we do that with Grabow???? I know he did not have the 2.63 ERA but the thought of taking him out back and shooting him sounds much more enticing.
  6. That really is a good move for Oakland although he and Matsui as their "middle" of the lineup is far from desireable.
  7. Can we change the thread title as this has not happened yet? I am still putting my money he lands in Baltimore.
  8. Hell yes, Webb please! Demp Z Cash Webb Wells Marmol Marshall Wood Guzman Maine Russel Silva/Gorz/Shitmardjiza/Grabow(DL please) I think that staff keeps us in the race right there. The offense to me still going to be either very good or very mediocre.
  9. You'd have to be an "idiot" to consider using the "ideal two hitter" in the leadoff role? Really? One and two hitters have very similar job descriptions and are more or less interchangeable. I agree, i think as Castro adds power he will definitely be the ideal 2 hitter but right now there are many options for the 1-2 part of the order. I personally am more concerned with where Soto will be hitting.
  10. If Guzman can break camp healthy I am just really excited about our bullpen with Woody coming back! Oh yea, I think the lineup will work out fine,
  11. I am amazed, as long as Kerry can pitch mildly effectively I would throw 1.5 mil 1 yr deals after him until he wants to retire. My man crush on Kerry just got bigger!
  12. Have not heard that, all I heard was the Royals openly said they would not trade Greinke to the Yankees.
  13. I know the Cubs contending for the Central is not out of the question but is there any chance the Yankees would be desperate enough to heavily overpay for someone like Dempster or big Z? There is some pitching still out there but not much for impact pitchers, Demp would give them a very solid 3-4 starter and could bring Montero and prospects back. If this could happen the Cubs could then flip Montero and prospects for Greinke.
  14. Go get him Hendry, see if he is telling the truth and offer him 4 yrs 10 mil plus appearence incentives during the next 2 seasons. I just want Woody back.
  15. These are assuming Fukudome is not with the Cubs (although I hope he is) vs RHP Castro DeWitt Ramirez Pena Soto Byrd Soriano Colvin vs LHP Castro Baker Ramirez Pena Soto Byrd Soriano Colvin Anyone else think that with the ridiculous contract that have been given out Fukudome's value may have increased? Even if you take his salary a good year could result in him being a type-A.
  16. I agree does anyone else not understand why people do not think this team would compete for 1st in the central? Castro Fukudome Ramirez Pena Soto Byrd Soriano DeWitt Dempster Zambrano Wells Webb Silva/Gorz/Archer/Cashner Marmol, Marshall, Guzman, Cashner, Russel, O'Day/Frasier/FA That team looks plenty capable of sticking with the Reds and the Cardinals.
  17. If it headlines Chirino and Lee then two other top prospects we can assume our 4 best prospects are not included right? Jackson or even vitters going in this trade would kill me. Okay maybe not vitters but i still think he has plenty of time to bounce back.
  18. Doubt Jenkes gets away without getting a shot to close, but Okajima would be a good gamble.
  19. I am very happy with this move I think it is very possible we will be paying less than we did for Lee last year with a decent chance at 35 bombs and .850 ops.
  20. If something could happen I would assume move Young to 2B, keep at the 1B targets. Fukudome RF Castro SS Ramirez 3B Pena???? 1B Soto C Young 2B Byrd CF Colvin LF
  21. Check the first post on this page; Levine writes for ESPN Chicago. Under the Chris Davis blog trade thread this was posted: I saw what Levine posted about a second meeting with Pena's people.
  22. I am so confused, someone is stating Levine is reporting the deal is close, however his blog has no updates and I have not heard anything anywhere. Caught something on ESPN about Karl Ravich saying Pena may be going somewhere soon but have not seen anything further.
  23. He is due 48 mil over the next 3 years. Please do not do this... unless of course they will take Soriano (they need a DH) and we can even things out. That would open up LF and get us out of the contract a year earlier.
  24. Well yea there is really no need for Soto since we have Koyie Hill. I mean the Cubs are like 144-1 when Koyie Hill starts.
