  1. Lovitz one of the few guys who should actually be allowed to do that.
  2. I really hope the Cubs don't trade Baez. I get there's risk there, but the talent level... To be able to generate that bat speed, and a guy who can probably be a Gold-Glove 3B or 2B, and above-average SS, and steal 25 bases. He's 22 years old, for crying out loud. He may still bust, but based on talent I think he has a chance to be the best of all of them.
  3. Yeah, let's keep mocking Javy for taking a walk like it's still 2013, lol.
  4. If Soler returns from injury and doesn't start, it's because Baez is at 3B and Bryant is in the OF. I don't think Jackson factors into that debate much.
  5. You can't compare Jackson and Denorfia for the simple reason that Jackson is a legit defensive CF. Apples and oranges. It's a nice pickup. Jackson is a pretty solid 4th OF and good insurance for Fowler.
  6. Not sure why you'd give Bryant anything to hit the way he's been going. I know Montero is hot, but Bryant is really raking.
  7. Get Baez in the lineup too, what the hell.
  8. Jeebus - hard not to be giddy thinking about the future when you look at what we're doing with these kids in the lineup. So much can go wrong, but wow... The potential here is staggering.
  9. That was a big boy save for Rondon. He actually didn't pitch badly, but the Giants put together tough ABs with the best of them. After getting out of that jam with 3 Ks, he should really have a ton of self-belief. That said, even with the off day I hope Joe sits Rondon at least Tuesday - with the 5-out save Friday and 35 pitches today, he has to be redlining. Let Strop close Tuesday if you need a closer.
  10. Coghlan is the one who has to worry about LaStella, not Baez. Unless his D is brutal he'll start against right-handers. Baez might be the RH platoon option. On the subject of LaStella... Vizcaino is averaging 97.3 with an 0.66 ERA.
  11. No doubt about it. Like to see Baez eventually be a part of it, especially against lefties, and defensively it's definitely a worry even with Russell at SS where he belongs. But this is the best we can do right now for sure.
  12. Alex Torres DFAd by the Mets. Big control issues, but he's always been tough to hit. I'm not sure I wouldn't take him over Russell or Wood.
  13. I'm also an idiot. It's convenient that way. I don't think you are. He finally has his broken clock moment, and that's when you choose to disagree?
  14. If you want to take the really, really pie in the sky, Brett Taylor-level Pollyana optimistic view... This leaves us more money for Eddy Julio Martinez.
  15. I'd rather have Haren. When Brian Cashman signed Eric Chavez, he said something along the lines of former stars being the best gambles for bit roles - in Chavez's case a bench LHH and 3B. Chavez ended up playing really well (.845 OPS, 1.7 WAR) in 2012. Cashman said it better, probably, and was also probably bullshitting but it's the kind of [expletive] that has stuck with me. Leaves me intrigued with a Haren pickup, even if I don't outright love it. Yeah, but Chavez threw harder than Haren. Apples and oranges.
  16. Where are they hearing that? Pads radio outlet. I head the same thing on the Yankees offer - crazy. One exec was supposedly asked to confirm if Preller was alive as a joke, and replied "Well, his voicemail is full and he isn't answering texts, so no I can't."
  17. Family lives in SD, and the buzz there is that rival GMs (who already disliked Preller) are seriously feeling he jerked them around and that his antics spoiled a lot of potential deals elsewhere. Supposedly didn't contact anybody on most of his discussed trades - just left them hanging out to dry - and basically has no professionalism at all. Hunter and Haren are certainly underwhelming. But we dodged a bullet with Javy. Theo was basically true to what he's been saying all along. And I could easily see him doing something in a waiver deal. Now - get Baez up and get Russell to SS where he belongs. Just no reason to wait now.
  18. Wood's velo is down 2 MPH, his K/9 is way down and H/9 way up this season. Big-time red flags there.
  19. LOL @ folks tossing around "Castro & Baez" as if they're interchangeable. Castro may in fact have negative value to the Padres, given how desperate they are to save money.
  20. We've approached the trade deadline in a mostly rational and practical manner for the past 3 years. Time to do something erratic. No - no, it's not...
