  1. Don't sleep on SF. They want him, and if the choice is living as a rich man in Philadelphia or San Francisco...
  2. Of all the things to be excoriating the Cubs over - and lord knows this offseason is an embarrassment of riches on that score - the Darvish contract should be nowhere near the list. That was a bargain at the time by any objective standard and he still has 5 years to prove it was a smart signing.
  3. Ah, the rites of spring we cherish so much... Joe refusing to admit a mistake, a new swing for Heyward, Sutcliffe drunk by 11 AM.
  4. Except getting superstars into the AL is good thing for us. And the Sox signing them puts more pressure on the Ricketts for their horrible offseason.
  5. Moustakas is no star, but having to sign two crappy one year deals in a row is just an indication of how broken this system is. No QO to use as an excuse this time, either. I really hope there’s a long lockout next time if it means the players are standing up for themselves. The owners’ greed is absolutely destroying the game.
  6. One of the worst parts of all this is that part of me wants to be happy when this inevitably blows up in the Cubs' face and makes them look as bad as they deserve to for the way they've handled this. But you can't - because it's Russell, there's going to be another victim.
  7. The velocity drop is like for like, not a function of the fact that he dropped the four seamer. Cutter velocity: 2014: 90.2 2016: 88.2 2018: 86.6
  8. A pure LOOGY, a dying breed. And judging by his precipitous velocity dropoff the past three seasons, possibly a dying arm too.
  9. Well, it's about to be official - the Cubs are partnering with a broadcaster so evil they make Fox News seem like paragons of good journalism. More and more, it truly does feel like 2016 was the product of a deal with the Devil, and ever since then he's been calling in his debts.
  10. Our system is still pretty much a disaster. I don't want us to trade the few interesting guys we have just for the sake of boredom relief.
  11. Apart from the fact that his power numbers would take a hit, I don’t see why SF doesn’t make sense for Harper. Great city (especially if you’re rich), gorgeous park, fairly wealthy club that figures to contend more often than not.
  12. Pretty sure even he gave up hope, too. Sad times. At least he's verified on twitter now, so we don't have to hear him bitching about that anymore. But if Amazon is having a sale you can be sure he’ll let you know.
  13. The only interesting part about these crap moves is guessing how Brett Taylor is going to spin them as genius.
  14. I got nuthin’. Give a brother a hint? Think about the medical problems Santo had late in his life and that should get you there. (it took me a couple looks too) Oh, sweet jeebus. Too soon!

  16. More likely they had an extensive phone call that someone hearing about it second hand would abbreviate to 'met'. Much more likely the whole rumor is BS.
  17. I feel like alot of owners have been saying this as MiL deals pile up and a 100+ FAs remain unsigned as we enter February. Be that as it may, the Padres situation has changed and they're willing to spend. But they've been bad (and cheap) for a long time, and you have to sell a top FA on the situation. No idea if Preller is suited for that job.
  18. I think it’s the former, actually. They’ve freed up some money and Preller, while bat [expletive] nuts, is aggressive by nature. I can see where SD is an attractive destination for a premier FA, especially a West Coaster like Harper. Pleasant if bland city, great climate, gorgeous ballpark. Maybe you just forgot that the owner of the Padres doesn't spend money? Tell Hosmer and Myers that. I lived in SD for many years and know their situation pretty well. They've refinanced a huge debt load and ownership is on record that they're willing and determined to increase payroll dramatically. They have arguably the best collection of prospects in baseball, and maybe in many years. This is an ideal time to make a splash and a younger FA like Manny or Bryce is a perfect fit for them, with their main competitive window a year or two off.

  20. I would take the guys the Dodgers brought in over the ones they shipped out, absolutely - especially considering how much payroll they saved. Hell, Jeter Downs is probably going to be the best player in the Reds deal, especially considering Puig is in a FA year.
  21. I suppose you could give Zobrist away and find a taker. Hate to do it but if it were for a top-tier FA I guess you would. But you'd have to attach a good prospect to Kintzler to unload him. But seriously people - let it go already. NOT...GONNA...HAPPEN.
  22. If anything this shows what lap dogs Cub fans are comparatively, as the Dodgers have done way more to help themselves than we have.
  23. I think the owners have gotten a little too blatant with their collusion game, and we're all going to pay for it with an incredibly divisive and ugly work stoppage when the CBA expires. They had it good, a system basically rigged in their favor, and if they'd just dialed it back a bit they probably could have perpetuated it indefinitely. But greed is what greed does.
  24. He's gotta play for somebody.
