  1. With this lineup and Arrieta pitching, there just aren't a lot of natural bathroom break moments with this team.
  2. Consider this: if Jake had toseed complete games tonight and next Friday and allowed one earned run total, his ERA over his last 12 starts would have gone up.
  3. I'm not sure there's been a better pitch in baseball in years than that thing at 92-93. It's just unfair.
  4. Would Joe pull Jake if he's got another no-no going? I almost wish that had gotten through.
  5. This is starting to look like rookie Kerry Wood with command.
  6. If this were the WC game and Arrietta could go all the way, that would be game over.
  7. Man, Arrietta is just sick. I would seriously be a little worried about showing them too much here though, TBH. Plus I'd really like to see him limited to around 80 pitches.
  8. not that i'm defending the decision, but joe said he's the most well conditioned athlete he's ever been around. he really doesn't look like he ever labors and so i'm sure there is truth behind this mentality, but it doesn't seem like it's necessary. Yeah but I'm not worried about him being gassed physically, I'm worried about his arm falling off. Can conditioning prevent that? (Serious question) No, it can't.
  9. Those last 15 pitches were totally misguided.
  10. Joe, you lost me here. Not smart, man.
  11. Assuming he keeps it going tonight, Arrietta will have allowed 0 or 1 ER in 9 of his last 10 starts - 5 of them 0 - and in the only other start he allowed 2.
  12. Russell is steadier, but Baez' instincts and natural ability are scary good. What a great problem to have. Russell is a gloriously smooth SS, but you could make the case you're better off with Baez at short and him at 2nd because of the arm. Then again, Baez looks like a Gold Glover at third.
  13. Baez may just be better at SS than Russell.
  14. My God, that ball was pulped.
  15. I hate bunts too, Joe, but - seriously?
  16. That's 11 K in 47 PA for Baez, and a ton of hits to RF.
  17. Has there ever been a player worse at keeping throws from the C in the infield than Castro?
  18. As much as I love Jake.....Why bother? He's got next year where he'll be making 10 or so and 1 more arb year after that....Too much can happen between now and then to go more than year to year on..... Why bother? You at least consider bothering because he's arguably the best pitcher in baseball, and you might believe the mileage is more important than the age. If you take the year to year approach, you're basically acknowledging he's gone after 2 seasons. Maybe that's the right way to approach it if you really believe big dollars for FA pitchers are a bad idea, but if you believe Jake could be the exception you have to try and preempt his free agency.
  19. What would you offer in an extension as of now? Maybe $30 for the two arb years, plus 4 years at 30 per? That's 6/150 for a guy 2 years away from FA and it would take him through his age 35 season, but I doubt Boras would take it.
  20. Arrieta's last 7 starts: 50.1 IP, 23H, 2 ER, 10BB, 50K, 0.36 ERA, 0.66 WHIP. That's good.
  21. I don't like Arietta going back out there for the 8th coming off almost 120 pitches in the no-hitter. It's not a huge deal, but why push it?
  22. Not sure I've ever seen a worse strike call than that.
