  1. Someone will have to explain the Sandy Leon fascination to me. Sure, good framer and defender, but almost impossibly inept with the bat. In short, like a dozen other reserve catchers out there. Personally I'd rather have Rene Rivera back.
  2. My experience is that Japanese people, more than most, are extremely self-conscious about embarrassing themselves (as with bad pronunciation) in front of others (apart from at the izakaya after work or the karaoke bar). And there's a great fear of meaning being misinterpreted because of a lack of understanding of the nuance of English. It's worth remembering that Yu is only half-Japanese, and likely grew up hearing and (and maybe speaking) non-Japanese language earlier and more often than most Japanese kids.
  3. This anal fissure of an offseason is the gift that keeps on giving - Kimbrel about to sign with the Brewers according to some twitter rumors.
  4. Funnily enough, that’s a totally club-friendly deal. He’s worth more.
  5. Look on the bright side. For the Phils, Victor Arano has a 51.00 ERA, .682 BAA and 6.667 WHIP in 3 IP (17 hits).
  6. Well, one outing, 1.2 innings - but better to see Chatwood good than bad I guess. Heyward and Happ have both been awful this spring. Interesting to see how much leash Heyward has if he really struggles again.
  7. Maybe it's a testament to just how bad our offseason was, but Yu is actually one of the last things I'm worried about. If his elbow is healthy, he's going to be somewhere between good and great, like he always has been. Sure his elbow could blow again, but the bullpen, aging rotation and outfield production are bigger worries for me.
  8. It would be hard to overstate how totally not happening that is.
  9. So what’s the over-under on the date Cishek’s arm literally falls off?
  10. Lester continues to look terrible.
  11. What time is it in Arizona?
  12. Well, Ricketts "likes our team", so all will be fine. No worries... :banghead: Yeah, but he was referring to Trump-Pence.
  13. That bandwagon was running on four bald tires to begin with.
  14. Chatwood at least has a history of succeeding with a tolerable if still troublesome walk rate. Maples has never done that, so he’s much more of a longshot to do it now.
  15. Did he give you the finger or something? Not like he would have missed it.
  16. Supposedly 4/180, and while tempting I don't blame him for not taking it. The way things are going I doubt he'd have made 150M after those 4 years. I think he could've managed to make that in nine years. Me too, especially as that will be post-strike and with a new CBA. But it's undeniably a gamble - both on his own performance in the interim and the players' resolve holding. Harper would have been a FA at 30 - seems very probable to me he'd be able to get at least a $150 million deal then, and for less than 9 years too. I'm sure he hated this whole disgusting free agency process, with the sham the owners have turned it into, and you can't knock a guy for taking 330 million dollars. But this ended up being a very team-friendly deal.
  17. LAD supposedly offered something like 4/160. If I'm Harper I would have found that very tempting indeed.
  18. You need Theo to write a book to tell you why? I should think it's pretty obvious.
  19. I can surely understand the appeal to Harper of being the top FA on the market not once, but twice. He's young enough that he could do it. What I don't understand is the appeal of a short-term deal when he'll surely get opt outs in his $350 million contract after 2 years, 3, 4 - whichever one he wants. If indeed somebody like the Dodgers is really still in the game with a 4-year deal, then it's just a testament to how much Bryce doesn't want to play in Philadelphia.
  20. MLB.com reporting the Dodgers are back in the Harper game. Why am I not surprised?
  21. A very nice summation of why baseball is fuched. The same reason the country is, more or less.
  22. Well, they can certainly afford it.
  23. Man, what a humongous missed opportunity this Harper situation - and entire offseason - is for the Cubs.
  24. Almora has never, even in the minors, shown anything that should encourage a team to call him an everyday player. He sucks against RHP and has shown absolutely no sign of improvement. He's fine for what he is - a platoon guy who's decent against lefties, above average defensively and average on the bases. Unless some GM wants to overpay for him there's no compelling reason to trade him, unless you're that worried Maddon is going to outsmart himself (as usual) and play him every day.
