  1. Geez, the Phillies website design is an eyeball-searing mess.
  2. Just an FYI ... AVG popped up with a virus warning when I clicked over to that site ("HTML/Framer"). It could be a false positive, but better safe than sorry.
  3. I'd like to see at least one World Series winner in Wrigley ... then I'll feel more accepting of building a more modern replacement. The place is a physical paean to the sport of baseball, a cathedral, and it deserves to see a winner before it goes.
  4. Did CT change his name? Or is blue the new sarcasm green?
  5. Hasn't every team that Marquis' been on wound up going to the playoffs? I say we should keep him as a lucky rabbit's foot at least until we clinch something. :P
  6. Blister on his finger? He should stick it in cider! Ahem ... my apologies. A creepy old man told me that joke once. Maybe he should go all "Four Rooms" on it and we can start calling him Mordekerry "4 1/2 Finger" Wood? I should probably go take a nap before the late start ...
  7. I admire your spunk, Billy ... get on that horn and let Hendry know what's what, man! And don't let a group of snickering message board posters bother you - save your energy and channel it into getting yourself well.
  8. Not to pile on, but he's also still near the top of the majors in errors at 1B. "DP" Lee? Hope he finds his stroke soon ...
  9. Vitamin D deficiency caused by too much indoor baseball ... give the boys some cold milk on the plane and green grass at Wrigley, they'll be good as new.
  10. Exactly. Fans holding grudges based solely on where the guy used to play is pretty sad. When a player comes to the Cubs, he's a Cub. Of course, many ignorant fans have no qualms about berating even career Cubs players, but that's another can of worms ... I seriously doubt anyone would complain or refuse to accept Pujols if he became a Cub, and he's nearly as hated as Edmonds was.

  12. [-X Instant karma's gonna get you (us).
  13. With Marquis and Lilly slated for the next two games, and the BP being taxed with 3-4 pitchers used and an average 4 innings of work per game over the past week or so, it's definitely a smart move.
  14. A 2 second savings ... ? A click is a click, whether it's on the URL or on the "Play" button on the video. No embedded videos on NSBB, please.
  15. Seeing the "Horry Kow" shirts, the lame hachimaki headbands, and now the sugegasa cone hats all over the stands really shows just how moronic many Cubs fans can be ... does no one actually realize that these things are - if not racist - at minimum in really, really poor taste? And supremely cheesy. I keep hoping these things fade out quickly, especially with the Cubs playing so well and the national spotlight growing.
  16. This disturbs me. Likewise. I'm not sure I want to know what's contained in a bottle of Alou. Alou vera? Seriously, you all don't know? I can't tell if the green font should be used here or not. Yes, we all know. I was just making a dumb pun. Alou pee jokes are older than your Grandma's panties jokes. Where's CaliforniaRaisin (or whomever) and that infamous 2003 locker room pic, anyway?
  17. I much prefer the new blue WGN graphics to the old red ones. Never understood why they picked red anyway ... I always thought of St. Louis when I saw them. Bleh! According to a flyer I got from Comcast a month or two ago, our local digital cable (Morton/Pekin) now includes WGN HD and CSN/CSN+ HD. Now I just need to drop the coin on a set.
  18. This disturbs me. Likewise. I'm not sure I want to know what's contained in a bottle of Alou. Alou vera?
  19. Someone please make me feel better by promising that this is a fluke and nothing more. Please re-affirm that baseball and the cosmos always "has a way" of evening things out, balancing the weights and making sure that things finish up as nature intended. And while you're at it, explain how Dave Duncan transforms a scrap-heap starter in Lohse into a #1 while awaiting the return of Mulder and Carpenter, and how this just flat out wasn't supposed to happen this way but here it is anyway. Also feel free to point out how absurd the thought of how everything "evens out" sounds when it comes from a fan of the century-of-misery Chicago Cubs. Yeah, I know it's only April, but my blue blood is chilled at the moment, thinking about what may yet come. Lots has been said here before of Cardinals pixie dust and magic, but I'm more inclined to believe that "small birds perched on a bat" is a hieroglyph for "massive pain in a small bear's ass." It's worrying, to say the least. A month ago, all anyone figured was that there was one other giant (MIL) and one possible David (CIN) in the NL Central, with little thought given to what was surely a rebuilding season down in Mullet County, Missouri. I'm probably over-reacting, but it still sucks.
  20. From the current SI article ... Yahoo LINK Welcome to the party, big guy.
  21. .444 / .545 / .556 Not sayin' ... just sayin' ... :-"
  22. AL East: Boston AL Central: Cleveland (CHI picked third) AL West: Los Angeles AL Wild Card: Detroit Batting Champ - Ichiro, HR's - Alex Rodriguez, RBI's - David Ortiz, MVP - Miguel Cabrera, Wins - Josh Beckett, ERA - John Lackey, K's - Justin Verlander, Cy Young - Josh Beckett Potential ROY's: Clay Buchholz, Jacoby Ellsbury, Joba Chamberlain, Evan Longoria, Brandon Wood, Daric Barton
  23. Baseball Digest actually picks the Mets third in the East, after Atlanta. They view Santana as a plus (obviously), but see the loss of Glavine and potential "durability issues" with Pedro Martinez and Orlando Hernandez as major weaknesses. Also mentioned is their 35-37 record against fellow NL East opponents in '07.
