  2. March 10, supposedly. I'm still waiting on mine.
  3. Oh, cubbinalltheway, did you wander away again? C'mon, let's get you back to the home and have a nice, hot cup of tea. Also, Jake Peavy.
  4. Wut? Do you mean "Mark II"?
  5. Duly noted. We'll be holding you to that, Milton.
  6. What?? She can kick around my soccer ball anytime. Whatever you're into man.... Just make sure she doesn't use her hands! Wocka wocka wocka.
  7. Raisin, you know what you must do ... one last view for the road, and in memory of 2003.
  8. you bite your tongue! I found him, Jim! http://img114.imageshack.us/img114/3092/maciastoilet131xw5.gif
  9. I don't want him running with the way his legs are breaking down. Honestly I'd tell him to sit his ass on first until he shows he can actually stay healthy Maybe my memory is distorting things (i.e., just focusing on the negative), but Soriano seems to get picked off a lot, too. I can remember at least a few times when he got caught dozing off at first base. Pretty sure that counts towards his CS. It only counts as a CS if the runner is attempting to advance to the next base, IIRC.

  11. I hate this crap. The perpetual baseball-naive drunken-tourist Cubs fan stereotype. :x
  12. The four runners mentioned are only those on third who tried to score on a fly ball. Soriano had 10 total outfield assists in 2008, which would have also included runners thrown out trying to score from second on a single and runners thrown out trying to stretch singles into doubles. Strangely, BBR mentions that Soriano played an inning at second base last season ... does anyone remember when this happened? :-k 4th game of the year against Stros. You have a good memory. Mine's old and crusty.

  14. MLB.com and B-R both have him listed as just So Taguchi. It's short for 田口 壮. Honestly, I don't think it's a nickname. He also has a son, Kan Taguchi. "So Taguchi?" "Taguchi Kan!"
  15. Hmmph, that's being a bit abtuse. :P
  16. The majority probably are, but IIRC this flake has had some larger exposure on St. Louis radio. He's probably got a small cult of like-minded idiots that wait for each video he puts out.
  17. "Hey, Prior - that's some of the worst apple-hurling I've ever seen!" And then I'd rush the mound and engage fisticuffs with the ruffian.
  18. Hockey live and in-person is definitely one of the most exciting sports to follow. I go to local AHL games occasionally and - although I really don't give a damn about the team's record - get pumped up and into the action. It's awesome. But hockey on TV? Not nearly as good. Bad, in fact. So much for being grateful for the opportunity to work in one of the best places on Earth. I'd gladly freeze a bit to spend more time in Wrigley, especially for such a unique event. Layers, man!
  19. I don't get the Hendry criticism, and I'm not buying that this deal is dead. Kevin Towers' declaration that a deal would have to get done by Thursday is what died today. I'm going to give Hendry credit for realizing that Towers was overplaying his hand. With Peavy pushing hard on his GM to make the trade, Towers is in an even worse negotiating position. I'm no GM-wannabe, but a gut feeling tells me that Peavy as a Cub is still very possible. If nothing else, Hendry's free to work on the Marquis to NY deal, which could potentially open up the Peavy situation even more.
  20. My Dad was telling me over the phone the other day that ticket prices have gone way up. Last year I bought the September Cardinals game from him and it was 30 something dollars. He told me those tickets were $56 now. Must be one of the new Platinum-level games ... nothing like shelling out >$100 to take your sweetheart out to the ol' ballpark. That's pretty much the cost of a 360/PS3 game for roughly 3 hours of live entertainment. Yeah, or you could not demand to get the best seats for the best games. What can I say ... I have caviar taste and a double cheeseburger budget. Besides, banging 10's is nearly impossible unless you spring for the luxo seats and the playoff atmosphere. Telling 'em that you post on NSBB only gets you to second base.

Of course, when the payroll is bumped up and the Cubs have the best, most Peavy-est rotation in baseball, then I won't complain (as I watch from my couch).
  22. It might be worth mentioning that Christmas itself is strongly connected to some very non-Christian beliefs, primarily Yule, an ancient pagan winter festival. Yule logs, decorated evergreen trees, mistletoe, wreaths, and gift giving are all Yule traditions, not Christian ones. December 25 itself was chosen by the Catholic Church as Christmas not because it's Christ's birthday (which is unknown), but to offset the "damning" influence of the pagan Yule holiday. Even the Santa Claus figure, with his reindeer sleigh, has roots in paganistic beliefs. When you think about it, Christmas itself is barely Christian, and even less so when you consider its modern materialistic bent and the fact that people everywhere - Christian or not - celebrate it for the simple fact of gathering together and enjoying life.
  23. I dunno, seems pretty straight-forward to me ...
