  1. Jimmy Baseball!!!! Jimmy Ballgame!!!!
  2. seems like everyone wants to be a Cub these days. Byrnes needs to just go hang out on the beach and retire.
  3. Z must have been brushing up on his English before this all important announcement. That being said, I hope he sports some hot pink cleats this season.
  4. dodgers rangers mariners mets I see the mariners doing it for some reason, but i am almost certainly wrong. For some reason, Ben's destination is incredibly hard to call. Too bad it won't be with the Cubs.
  5. maybe, but that division sucks so they could still win it. anything is possible, but i don't see them finishing higher than third behind the mariners and rangers
  6. the angels window has expired, and they are going to fall hard this season
  7. The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away.
  8. Improving since...November? Trust me we should all be scared anytime JH is said to be negotiating with a MR. I am willing to bet the deal isn't any less than 2 years $6 million in both years and amount. Since November?? What are you smoking?? Grabow is like Nathan-lite! An amazing sign and bargain by Hendry Bear.
  9. Since the Angels just landed Pineiro for 2 yrs. 16 total, there is no way in god's green earth Sheets will get the same base. How much payroll room do the Cubs have? could we afford a 6 to 6.5 million base? If we can, I think that is what he will sign for with incentives pushing him up to around 10-12 million.
  10. But they have different first names.
  11. As much as I want Sheets, I think the Cubs are out if the base is 8 million. Jim said to expect two more guys. I believe those two more guys will be Dye and Kiko. Doesn't leave much room for Sheets. I am usually happy with banking on a miracle, but this is the Cubs.
  12. Thanks for the laugh guys! That being said, I am surprised by the one year offer. Could Jim actually be improving???
  13. Top of the line starter is the way to go. I also believe it is worth taking a risk on one of either Bedard or Sheets because they are free agents. The Cubs are good enough to make it to the playoffs this year, but I don't see their rotation being strong enough to capture the prize. So, if Ricketts doesn't open the wallet for the two prior mentioned pitchers, that leaves the team with a deadline deal for a pitcher or standing pat. I believe standing pat will get us bounced, and trading for a top pitcher will leave many of us mad over the talent given up.
  14. As long as he doesn't show up with another Kanye haircut, all will be well.
  15. I'm telling you the man can talk. Every year I went Hendry almost makes you believe he's a great GM. I always walk in hating the guy and walking out liking him. His contract is up in 2012. Lee, Ramirez, and Fukudome have contracts expiring before that time. Jim is pretty good at making trades, but those are marquis positions where his FA signing history has me supremely scared. The point I am trying to make is that if Hendry were not to get another extension, the possibility of him leaving a lasting effect is quite large. Hopefully Ricketts has a little more concern, restraint and knowledge hidden behind his praising exterior during the Convention.
  16. TJS is different for hitters and pitchers, right? Am I correct to guess that there should be less concern with Nady as opposed to a pitcher, given the timeline since operation?
  17. Cubs Interested In Xavier Nady By Tim Dierkes [January 18 at 1:52pm CST] The Cubs are interested in outfielder Xavier Nady, writes Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. Nady's agent, Scott Boras, told Morosi his client is on schedule to be ready for Spring Training after July Tommy John surgery. With Nady and Jermaine Dye reportedly on the Cubs' radar, they appear to be setting their sights a little higher for their fourth outfielder role. The Yankees and Braves are two other clubs that have been linked to Nady, with previous suitors such as the Cardinals and Rangers going in different directions.
  18. Dammit! After watching those videos, I like Hendry a little bit more. I still think he [expletive] the bed in tremendous fashion last offseason though. But, I will give him the benefit of the doubt since apparently the scouting and coaching system has become world-class under his guidance. Only time will tell, and we still have a few more years left to see what happens.
  19. saying there is some factor of performance contributed to clubhouse chemistry in no way outlines it as the end all factor in the team's performance last year or any other year for that matter.
  20. Oh goodie. Cubs *buzzkill* Convention 2010
  21. http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/news/story?id=4831785 Ricketts with praise, praise, and even more praise for Hendry. [expletive]
  22. Everyone would be thrilled with that. That's a fantastic line for a catcher. Exactly. Considering his rookie year, hopefully he can achieve something similar to those heights again. However, I would be satisfied with a line of .260/.330/.450 with 10 to 15.
  23. hak-ju lee has won two straight MVP honors in Baseball Power Pros. for the Cubs. The potential is there!
  24. I would be honestly thrilled to have him post a line of .280/.350/.480 with 15 to 20 HR. It was also nice to hear Lilly speak about his shoulder. Dempster seems ready to rock, and so does Byrd. We just need another quality starter.
