I was considering Gray to be the higher value piece in Billy's mind in that trade. Reddick is a nice player, but has never OPS'd over .784. He had a 4.5 WAR 3 years ago, but hasn't topped 2.8 otherwise. I don't think you need to give up a ton for him. Can't just dismiss the monster season he's having right now out of the value equation, though. Definitely, but how much that increases his value is what I'm trying to figure out. His BABIP is 65 points above his career average. Yeah, I guess I'm in the minority here in thinking that while Reddick would be OK to get, I'm not that excited at all for him. I don't think he will keep his early season success going, and I'm not particularly a huge fan of the fact that he doesn't get on base much. Outside of one season, he really doesn't provide special power, either. (I realize he's playing in a tough park in Oakland). If we are going to give up a package with players like Torres, I would like somebody much more inspiring. And if we can't get that kind of player, then I'd prefer to call Baez up and replace our left fielder with Bryant.
