  1. Wow. If that's the comparison, that's a good trade for Milwaukee.
  2. If Castro is in there, then 4 years of Zobrist is too. And even if Castro isn't in there, throw in a World Series title.
  3. http://31.media.tumblr.com/bcf76fd9263659f1c946b1203f9e4a52/tumblr_mzayvoCWgk1r4gei2o8_250.gif Although Harper will be younger when he hits free agency than Bryant will be, I think this probably is a good starting point to what Boras will be asking for if the Cubs hope to extend Bryant before he becomes a free agent.
  4. Injury concerns? Acquisition cost concerns? Or both? Also, going after Duffy, Davis, and Cain is savvy. I'd suspect it'd probably cost a lot, but I like that idea. I really don't. It would basically drain all our assets and none are controlled after this season. The Cubs are in a really good position to compete for a title next year already, so I'd rather position better for the years after.
  5. Not really that risky, in my opinion. The core of this lineup allows a team like the Cubs to not have to be that strong at every single position offensively. It would be cool, but it doesn't seem risky. Plus, Jay's OBP is usually pretty good.
  6. True. But I suspect he will go back to not being good, because that's how he has been most of his career. Actually Segura's almost 50/50 on very good and bad, most of the bad coming after his baby died. I say this without looking it up, but I seem to remember he had started to really suck after the first two or three months of his Brewers career and just kind of stayed mediocre.
  7. Thanks for the link, Sofa. This is exactly what I was looking for. Just placed the order. Might be a tad pricey, but not outrageous for the quality. Plus when they dry press them like that the paper doesn't turn yellow. I have the Sosa HR 62 paper that is the same way and it's still good 18 years later.
  8. It would for sure be cool late in games to have Gardner in left, Almora in center and Heyward in right.
  9. On the other hand, finally winning the World Series and having a core returning that still has a chance to do it again even with some departures could make them feel like they don't have to do things they may not believe in. Meaning give $20 million to a closer.
  10. I've actually brought this up in previous seasons, but I think a non-Dodgers or Yankees team sort of has to have a limit on how many 20 million plus guys they have on the books. And with Lester and Heyward already above that I feel doing another for a closer makes it more difficult to get a top of the line pitcher next year or......Bryce Harper a few years from now. I might be wrong, though.
  11. I'm kind of floored someone actually typed that out. That's pretty much what he did in '15 and '16 no? I just really don't want to get bent over again at the trade deadline when it's something that could have been addressed in the offseason. I actually respect the emotion and passion. I'm just not there yet. Theo needed five years to deliver us all a championship that seemed at times would never happen. I'm still celebrating that title from two weeks ago. He can do whatever the hell he wants with this baseball team for as long as he is here. But I'm also easy to please.
  12. Just watch the highlights again. It will put you right back in a good mood.
  13. We have to give Boras credit for being pretty smart, at least most of the time. If he spent the past week surveying things and gave Hellickson a recommendation that he should accept, they must have gotten a pretty strong feeling the offers weren't going to be great.
  14. For anyone who is interested, you can also order an 11x14 photo of the SI cover HERE, although I would strongly suggest buying it unframed and then framing it yourself. A $60 surcharge is a little crazy for a $20 frame. Here is a bundle with that cover plus 4 alternate covers. https://backissues.si.com/storefront/2016/chicago-cubs-championship-cover-bundle/prodSPR2016WSCHAMPSET.html I can't figure out if the bundle is 8x10s or 11x14s.
  15. Very slick under the radar move. It will ease the blow a bit when Gleyber becomes a star. Well that and winning the World Series in part because of the Gleyber trade.
  16. I'm sure winning the World Series takes the sting out of being benched because you're the third worst catcher on the team, but it doesn't seem to make sense to keep him anyway at his salary next year. Think they trade him for a lottery ticket prospect and sign or acquire another vet catcher? I do believe Geovany Soto is a free agent........ This has been discussed in like 5 different threads now. Montero was drunk and said things he wouldn't have said otherwise. He isn't going anywhere, no one is taking on his salary anyway, and he's more than fine as a backup to Contreras. Is that true? That he was drunk during the interview? Sorry if you're being sarcastic. It just seems like it could be legit.
  17. So do they get really aggressive trying to get Chapman or Jansen? I can imagine Carl Jr. getting better next season, but since we traded a big package at the deadline for Chap and we could very well have the same need at next year's deadline, do we take care of it now?
  18. It was a week ago tonight that we were down 3-1. Had them right where we wanted them.
  19. I'd be shocked if we put the QO on Hammel.
  20. We just won the World Series. Like Javy, Theo can do whatever the hell he wants.
  21. Oh man, that one hit some feels. It feels like things we have seen before. A mock highlight video of what it would be like if we won the whole thing. Except this is real. This is real. And it feels so damn good.
  22. TT knows his stuff so I hesitate to disagree, but I would be totally shocked to see Jansen or Chapman land a contract that pays $25 million per. Craig Kimbrell is slated to be the highest paid closer in 2017 at $13 million, and I just can't see the jump being that big in one offseason. I am guessing those two would be in line to get $15 to $17. Will be interesting to see.
  23. He even talked about how there would be some fringe AA prospect who would work hard and become a key piece or something. And that pretty much fits Willson, right?
  24. Best part of a signing like this: when the guy helps you win a championship for the first time in 108 years and is named the MVP in the first year of his deal, it so doesn't matter what he does the rest of the way. Contract = forever worth it.
