from mlbtraderumors.com I highly doubt they'd do Bradley for Meche straight up but I'd sure have no problem throwing in Marshall or similar I wonder if this would still be a three-way trade with the Mets involved. Bradley and a NYM prospect to KC, Meche to NYM, Castillo to Cubs. Actually this trade makes a lot of sense. The Mets are looking for a pitcher but i'd imagine on top of the mets prospect and braldey going to KC, the cubs would have to include maybe marshall in the deal. Whats annoying about all of this is that how much different would all of this be, if Jim had just signed Abreu, Ibanez or Dunn. Hopefully he redeems himself this offseason.

Still sounds like Caca to me. Until Bruce Levine or Miles reports it, I dont think its true. What annoys me about thsi time of the year is that you get a lot of bloggers that dont cite sources and instead take shots in the dark in the hope that they get it right so that they attract more viewers and end up stating that they knew soomething before anyone.

Pretty good deal for the Mariners, at least for the first two years, in year three they'll be trying to trade him away. Its not a hell of a lot of money, its a slight overpay. I'm glad though because I'd rather have Hudson than figgins if the cubs had the money just because it would cost less and hudson is younger.

Vicente Padilla?
Sever82 replied to Keener98's topic in MLB Draft, International Signings, Amateur Baseball
Thank you Bruce. Hear anything juicy or is it basically calm, besides the trade? Sorry for the delay. Was a little busy. It's calm on the surface, but underneath, there's a whole lot of talk going on. I think we'll see some action at the winter meetings. I drive down to Indy Sunday and will be blogging all day every day there. Should be fun. Bruce, why is it that all GMs in Chicago Stink, can't evaluate talent, acquire the wrong players, overpay players or can't develop young players. I'm talking about Jerry Angelo, Jim Hendry and the Bulls FO. After hearing about the recent bulls rumor involving the knicks i'm losing hope on my Chicago teams, except for the Blackhawks. Please Tell me Jim walks out of the Winter Meetings with Bradley being gone, Granderson is a Cub, Hudson a Cub, all while keeping Castro, Cashner and maybe vitters. -
I guess you can put Keith Law as a believer when it comes to Castro Burt (LA) Are you on the Starlin Castro bandwagon or under one if its wheels as it careens over the road? Klaw (1:40 PM) On it, and belted in.

I think Seidman is crazy to call Byrd a 4th OF. While we would all love to see Granderson on the Cubs, I don't think Byrd is a bad option. Of course, you would have to factor in the cost (in prospects) of getting Granderson with the cost (in dollars and years) to get Byrd. 2007-2009: Byrd - .295/.352/.468/.820 Granderson - .277/.350/.499/.849 Looking at those numbers, there aren't many teams that wouldn't love to have Byrd's numbers for their CF. I think it's a tough decision if you're talking 3-4 players from Marmol, Vitters, Castro, Casner, Jackson, etc. for Granderson as opposed to $16 - $18 million over 2 years for Byrd. Did you read what Seidman said before calling him crazy? Yes, those numbers would look great in CF. The point is, you're not going to get those numbers from Byrd when he's not playing half his games in Arlington. Granderson, on the other hand, would be more likely to put up better numbers because he wouldn't be playing 81 at Comerica. I agree man, I still dont get how some fans and Baseball writers are so blind by the stats. Have people learned nothing from Gary Mathews Jr, Aaron Miles, Zito, Etc. how you should'nt give players raises just because of fluke seasons or because they're coming off their best season? I mean wow, its just annoying that people are so eager to pay byrd what he wants despite the fact that he played in a hitter friendly park.

Actually i wouldn't mind that to be honest. If the cubs were to trade for both cabrera and Granderson,I would give up the farm to get both players and still be able to keep Castro. A lineup of: CF Granderson RF Fukudome 1B DLee LF Cabrera 3B Ramirez 2B Soriano C Soto SS Castro P :pig: I'd seriously part with Jay Jackson, Vitters, Cashner, Lee, Theriot, Marshall, etc
-
something tells me that lee didn't negotiate a no-trade clause so he could waive it to be a one-year rental in detroit of all places I think its more likely Soriano retires or renegotiates his conract than Lee waiving his no trade. According to Bruce Levine, DLee is one of the Ricketts favorites players. To top it off he has a no trade and if the rumors are true, the cubs asked him last year if he would waive his no trade to be with a team in the west coast like the Angels or Padres and Lee said no.

Its an ugly contract, but we'd be getting him for the entirity of his prime. He'll be 33 when the contract expires, this is a guy you can build a teram around. Weve got some great players, but we dont have an A Rod, or Pujols. This is the guy. One of the top 5 in the game. What makes Cabrera better than Prince Fielder? Or Mark Teixeira? Or possibly even players like Joey Votto, Adrian Gonzalez, or Ryan Howard? If Cabrera is a top 5 talent, then he is only barely there over a dozen other players in the league. Several of them don't have contracts that are worth 20 million per year. Cabrera likely still would be worth 20 million in free agency. But he isn't worth 20 million+top prospects being given up. It's likely a fair deal, but you don't trade lots of talent to acquire a fair deal when there are countless other options that can play 1st base and give you the same value as Cabrera or just a little less. Very true but to me Gonzalez isn't better than Cabrera and Fielder is pretty much on par with Cabrera. But eventhough Cabrera has a huge contract, wants the difference with getting cabrera now, who is locked up for a fair market contract. Then getting Fielder or Gonzalez who aren't locked up but who will be up for extensions soon and will demand similar contracts.
-
The thing that sucks is that Dlee wont wave his no trade clause. If he would wave it, then the cubs can get more prospects for him and try to get Cabrera now. But Ricketts would either want the same amount of money going out that would come in. Or he'd decide he'd be willing to eat the salary this year to get a player like cabrera.

I totally agree and i dont think its an ugly contract, i think its a fair contract considering the level of talent and his age. I highly doubt they shop him though because they'll lose a lot of attendance if they ship out Cabrera and Granderson in the same season.

Yeah, I know the chances of him landing here are none- I would actually consider doing a three way deal involving Amaris Ramirez to a team like the Giants, Angels, Red Sox or some other club in need of a 3B. Get prospects from that third team and move those prospects to the Tigers along with maybe a prospect or two from the cubs farm system that is not Castro or Vitters. Cabrera wasn't the best at third on defense but I think he would ultimate be a better defensive option than Vitters at third and as a result i would convert vitters into an outfielder or maybe even keep him at 3B and let DLee walk and shift Cabrera to first after DLee is gone. Its doable in my opinion, if you're willing to trade Ramirez which i'd definitely be willing to do if it nets you cabrera because Cabrera is younger and hasn't had nagging injuries like Ramirez. Plus i think teams would definitely give up good value for Aram at this point eventhough he had an injury last year.

Blue Jays contact Cubs about Halladay
Sever82 replied to Neuby's topic in MLB Draft, International Signings, Amateur Baseball
Wouldn't trade Castro in a deal for halladay. The cubs rotation was one of the tops in the league last year, pitching is not something the cubs need right now. If the Marlins came calling and wanted to work a deal for Hanley than i would listen but for an Ace who's on the wrong side of thirty, i wouldn't do the deal if it meant giving up Castro. If the Cubs can get him by giving up Vitters, Cashner, Jay Jackson and maybe a lesser prospect than maybe. Shortstop is a position the cubs need someone in. -
Wow, if anyone saw Espn's Keith Law's Cy Young voting, you noticed that Vazquez was number two on his list. In his chat thats ongoing right now, a lot of Cardinals fans are going after him for it. Pretty me much saying he knows nothing about baseball, etc, etc. Whats funny to me is that it shows how dumb some fans can be, a couple of guys said things like "Well Carpenter had a better W-L and thats all that counts and is the most important stat", Another one said "All you look at is strikeouts" despite the fact that Keith outlined all the stats he looked at. Some people can be idiots when it comes to this stuff. Carpenter no doubt had a better season but i think Vazquez had better numbers and i feel most people are discrediting Vazquez because he hadn't posted up a similar season in a while.

Wow is Phill Rogers just throwing things at the wall to see what sticks: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/11/latest-milton-bradley-scenario.html Latest Milton Bradley Scenario By Tim Dierkes [November 20, 2009 at 10:58am CST] The latest Milton Bradley trade scenario comes courtesy of Phil Rogers of the Chicago Tribune, who considers Bradley going to the Rangers, Kevin Millwood to the Mets, and Luis Castillo to the Cubs. We talked to a source familiar with the situation who said that this deal is not being discussed. Backing that up, MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan talked to a Rangers official who said it's "not happening." So for our purposes it's more of a discussion piece. Does this satisfy the needs of all three teams? The Rangers add a bat and trade from an area of depth, the Mets free up second base for other pursuits and get a veteran for the rotation, and the Cubs unload Bradley while getting a piece they can use. The money: Bradley is owed $21MM over two years, Millwood $12MM over one, and Castillo $12MM over two.
-
According to Phil Rogers, the deal for Milwood might involve the mets and castrillo going to the cubs instead of milwood. http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2009/11/cubs-explore-bradley-deal-that-would-net-castillo.html The Cubs continue trying to find ways to move Milton Bradley in packages that would bring them second baseman Luis Castillo from the Mets. The latest, according to sources, is a three-team deal with the Rangers that would send send the Rangers' No. 1 starter, Kevin Millwood, to New York. A source with the Cubs believes this proposition has legs, saying, "there's a deal to be made there.'' But the Rangers haven't committed to the return of Bradley, who played in Texas before signing with the Cubs, and would need the Cubs and maybe the Mets to kick in money to pay most of the $21 million remaining on Bradley's contract before doing any deal. Texas believes it has enough pitching depth to move Millwood, who is due to earn $12 million in the last year of his contract. The Mets are searching for pitching.

Cody (Mount Vernon, IA) Would Josh Vitters, Jake Fox, and Jay Jackson be enough for the Cubs to land Curtis Granderson if he really is available? Would you do that deal if you were the Cubs? Jim Callis (2:12 PM) I would think so. The Tigers have to dump salary, so I might try to hold onto Vitters and see if Detroit would take Ryan Flaherty, or hold onto Jackson and offer a lesser pitcher. But the Cubs are in win-now mode, and I think they'd bite.
-
Wow some baseball fans are just dumb. Five of our Top ten Prospects for a guy who doesn't have great stats and needs to be platooned? Are you kidding me, what GM in their right mind would trade basically the majority of their farm for a player who's not even a superstar. If they include Cabrera and Granderson for Castro, Vitters, Cashner, Jackson and DLee, i would consider it but for just Granderson, man people are dumb.
-
Perfect example, look at Ken Rosenthals latest rumblings on Adrian Gonzalez. He mentioned that if the Red Sox got involved in the Gonzalez sweepstakes, they can offer a package of lowell, pappelbon and Lar Anderson. Correct me if i'm wrong but isn't Lars garbage and aren't his numbers in the minors nothing special? As much as i dont like to defend the White Sox, if the White Sox offered Viciedo, Hudson, Danks, and Flowers, while the Yankees offered Kennedy, Gardner, Jackson, Montero. I think i would take the sox package over the yankees but the media would talk Kennedy up and Jackson up as the next big thing.
-
I think this has Zero Chance of happening, have no idea what in the world the white sox can offer to entice the Padres. White Sox pretty much have Zero in their farm system other than the Hudson kid. I'm kind of confused by this report because I think this makes zero sense. On second thought, i guess it depends heavily on what the white sox are willin to give up. Although their prospects aren't that highly regarded, i can see the padres thinking about the white package if they included Viciedo, Hudson, Danks, Flowers, and maybe one or two more prospects. Though i highly doubt the RedSox let the White Sox win over Gonzalez without a fight so i think the RedSox will bid highly on him too. If the White Sox pick up Adrian, they would pretty much deplete their farm system. Why would the Angels do this? Why not go after Adrian in the first place? Or, if they don't have the players to get Gonzalez, go after Konerko without Gonzalez, which would probably cost less in players then sending AG to the WS, even if they are closer to MLB-ready, which is what the WS would want. That was my initial thought but then again, Morales isn't exactly an average 1st baseman for them so its understandable that they dont want to go after Gonzalez, especially with the amount of prospects it would cost them. I can honestly see the Angels agreeing to a three way deal only if the White Sox took back Mathews. If Williams pulled off this trade, it would be a hell of a pick up for them and i feel would make them the favorites for the AL Central.
