  1. http://espn.go.com/chicago/columns/blog/_/post/4761659/name/levine Nothing to it Cubs source refutes report about talking to Yanks about Zambrano December 21, 2009, 11:29 AM A New York Post article regarding the Chicago Cubs talking to the New York Yankees about sending Carlos Zambrano to New York for a center fielder is premature. [+] EnlargeRonald C. Modra/Sports Imagery/Getty Images Carlos Zambrano's agent said the Cubs have not approached him with a trade proposal. First and foremost, Zambrano has a full no-trade clause in his contract that runs through 2012. Zambrano's agent, Barry Praver, said he has not been contacted about a trade. And a Cubs source told ESPNChicago.com there is nothing to the speculation at this point. "I've had zero discussions with the Cubs about a possible trade," Praver said. "I've talked to them on numerous occasions, and the topic has never come up." -- snip (Please don't post entire articles - mgmt. :) )
  2. Good article. Thats understandble, i would be down for just getting hughes and salary relief. I still prefer Cano over hughes because Cano is a proven player, i still have my doubts on hughes. If the cubs are able to trade Z to the yanks for someone like hughes, i would use the money to sign Chapman for the future and then also sign some Vets like Hudson, Cabrera or byrd to one year deals so that there's no commitment.
  3. Ha ha yeah i immediately thought that and reading some of the comments from Yanks fans. It sounds like they feel they could just ship gardner for Z since they'll be taking on his contract.
  4. Yeah thats not going to happen, they would already be doing the cubs a favor by taking on Zs contract. When he's on, Z is worth his contract but he's overpaid in my opinion.
  5. Thats understandable but If you could net Cano and Melky in a trade, you fill two holes and dont have to waste money on Byrd. Which you could then use the money to sign maybe Capps and a Starting pitcher. Plus with the money Z saves you, you can add two starters. Maybe signing sheets to a incentive deal and adding another arm as insurance.
  6. I want to say he was quoted as saying he would waive his no trade for any of the NY teams and named the yankees specifically. I dont think you explore a trade involving Z if the centerpiece is cabrera. If i'm the cubs i would ask for a trade centered around Cano. With Cano, you'd be locked in for a 2B for your future.
  7. From the article it sounds like it. I wonder if the cubs asked for like Cano, Melky, Hughes, and another highly regarded player. I would definitely ask for Cabrera and Cano but the third player i wouldn't ask for hughes or Joba because i think that would be asking for too much.
  8. http://chicagocubsonline.com/archives/2009/12/cubsrumors12219.php According to ESPN the Yanks asked about Zambrano. Though i'm not sure if it was recently or older news. Would you guys entertain a big Z trade? I would definitely ship Zambrano if it nets the cubs Cano, Melky and maybe a starter. Asking for hughes might be too much, not sure though.
  9. Ha ha alright tough guy. So i guess you work for the cubs front office and knew it was an option in their thinking. We dont work for the cubs smart guy, and it was obvious they didn't consider it an option but yet you continue to beat this idea that somehow, keeping bradley was an option the cubs were still considering.
  10. Dont tell that to some of the guys on this board. They ignore that part and still think Milton staying was an option.
  11. I'm not at all a Theriot fan but he really isn't terrible at baseball. Yeah i hate theriot but to be honest he's not terrible. I do agree the cubs should trade him at this point because his value is at a high and they have their future SS waiting in the minors. But as much as this franchise likes him, i doubt they move him. The love the cubs have for theriot is similar to the love the bulls organization has with hinrich. Eventhough both players are average and can be upgraded, the franchise still keep them around and keep them as starters.
  12. I can just see a phone call being made from Hendry to Byrd: "Hey Marlon, hows it going? Oh man I got some good news for you. Do me a favor and don't sign that contract I faxed you yet, I got $6 million more to throw on there!" ha ha ha.
  13. I have a feeling they'll sign Capps and Byrd. I'd prefer they sign Lopez or Hudson
  14. Ok genius, so what do you do other than this trade since you seem to know what options were out there. If you release him, you dont get the 6 million that you just saved. And again, not sure how anyone can assume he'll be in the rotation, especially coming off injury and with those numbers. Well, I am a genius, thank you. The option is to... keep him! And yes, Silva will be in the rotation. Of course the best option is to keep him and i've said all along thats what the cubs should probably do, but with the way they have gone out in the media, it was apparent that that was never an option in Hendry mind.
  15. Common sense says Silva is in the rotation. How do you figure? Common sense says anybody with Silva's stats doesn't immediately get a spot in the rotation. No way Piniella is that dumb to give him a spot without battling for one. When the competition is Tom Gorzelanny, Sean Marshall, and Jeff Samardzija versus a huge contract, it's common sense. Really. There's not going to be a real competition. When the competition is a long time prospect in Marshall who has shown he can start and another prospect who you've claimed to be a starter for a while now, no its not common sense.

  18. The trade isn't that bad once you hear how much money the cubs saved. Though i still would've preferred Castillo from the Mets in some kind of deal. It makes you wonder that maybe the Rays weren't willing to take anything of miltons salary. It also depends on what hendry does with that money. They really didn't save much, and they downgraded talent. One team came out of this deal with a useful asset, and it wasn't the Cubs. Saving 6 million over two years is better than nothing. Having Carlos Silva in your rotation is worse than nothing. And the $6 million is only as useful as what you spend it on. Who says Silva is in the rotation though, I doubt Piniella keeps in the rotation unless he beats out everyone else. Though you're right on who they spend it on.

They really didn't save much, and they downgraded talent. One team came out of this deal with a useful asset, and it wasn't the Cubs. True but because of Hendry's dumb mistakes, they had no choice but to trade him. I would have preferred they kept him but Hendry ruined that relationship with the suspension and the open negotiations. Saving 6 million over two years is better than nothing.

  21. Heyman says its 6 million over two years. Not sure if thats 6 million before or after the contract offset.
  22. This better not be a straight up trade. Look at this way, lets say the cubs released Bradley outright. It would be as if Hendry went out there and signed Silva to a two year worth 4 Million while silva was coming off a shoulder injury. Who the f--ing world would do that.
  23. Ha ha they have the Seattle beat reporter and he's trying to talk up Silva. saying he has a nice sinking fastball like Zambrano. Bringing in a Seattle Writer for an interview what do they expect, if they had someone with any kind of baseball knowledge he would spend the segment just laughing at cubs fans.
  24. Wow they just called his numbers in Minnesota, good numbers.
  25. Hearing the guys on ESPN 1000, can't believe they're trying to be supportive of this move.
