  1. We do need Roberts this year or a roberts type of player. Its not whether Roberts is a better 2b than Derosa, its the fact that we can put roberts at lead off because we dont have a lead off hitter. Theriot isn't one, Soriano isn't one, Fukudome isn't one and neither is fontenot. Roberts is use to being a lead off hitter. As far as having enough talent for peavy, we sure do, the only reason a deal hasn't been done is because we dont have the young pitching the padres need, if they need young hitting than we'd be good. The thing that sucks with roberts is that he belongs to the orioles and the orioles with MacPhail are pretty impossible to trade with at a reasonable price. All the talk is that if Roberts doesn't sign an extension by the winter meetings than he's going to be traded. Compared to last year though, there are more teams interested in roberts. Can roberts be worked in the peavy deal if the orioles are the third team? hmmm maybe, but we'd have to give up a player like Dlee or startine player period, if we were to be able to land roberts. In my opinion hendry will either land roberts or peavy this offseason as far as trading goes. If i was hendry i would do everything possible to dumb marquis salary and then trade for peavy and maybe sign furcal. I just hope the ownership situation gets resolved soon and the future owners give the approval to hendry to go out and sign a player like furca, as a left handed option i'd rather sign furcal than abreau because of the lead off factor. If you sign abreau, you're still stuck without a leadoff hitter. People are giving up on fukudome too quick.
  2. Just like that huh, why do people think deals are so easy to work? Look i can do the same too, how about we trade DLee, Vitter, Cedeno, Marshall, Pie, Atkins Orioles get Pie, Dlee, atkins Padres get: Vitters, Cedeno, Marshall, and olson Cubs get: Peavy, Roberts. done deal.
  3. I didnt see this posted here but i feel this will push the peavy deal foward if it happened: http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/8889074/Mets-proud-to-be-partners-with-Citigroup-despite-bailout-?CMP=OTC-K9B140813162&ATT=49 According to Fox sports, the mets and cubs discussed a swap of Heilman for Marquis where the cubs would pay part of marquis' salary. I feel the only way the cubs get peavy is if Marquis goes, i doubt they'll trade lee or any other big salary players so marquis to me is pretty much the only option.
  4. true i guess you can say that. I'm honestly hoping the cubs become like the red sox where they're not afraid to buy talent put also develop good talent in their minors. But to do that the cubs need to definitely get better scouting for future talent. I was suprised by Olney's article just because it seems as if he's been pushing Peavy to braves for a while now and basically dismissing the cubs. But i still dont trust anything olney says.
  5. Quick question, lets say you can look into the future a bit and lets say you're about to pull the trigger on a deal that would send Vitters to SD for Peavy. Lets say that all the prospects sent except vitters are duds or average MLB players. Would you do the trade even know that Vitters ends up being a Chipper Jones caliber player? I think my answer would be yes since Peavy is only 27 but if peavy was 32 i'd say a quick no.
  6. That's why this is taking so long. I don't know why everyone expects other GMs to act quickly to help the Cubs get Jake Peavy. It doesn't make any sense. Also, who knows if Hendry is looking at giving up all of the names you listed above at the same time for him. I doubt the package is that high. The one thing that makes me wonder if the Package is this is because the Orioles want Pie and Cedeno for Olson, which is a player the padres want. The Padres want pitching which is why Marshal is there, then its rumored they asked for Vitters. The other prospect is because they have talked about a five for one deal and plus i dont feel a package of Vitters, Marshal and Olson would get peavy alone which is basically what you're doing. I'd rather replace Cedeno with Marquis. I feel Marquis is the key to getting peavy because if we dont trade marquis than we dont have the room to fit in peavy. Its going to be annoying if these rumors drag into February and March like the roberts deal did. Like i said, we should just ignore baltimore and look for another partner because baltimore continues to act as if all their players are future HOFs.
  7. I'm really starting to get annoyed by the orioles. Sorry but basically you'd be trading Pie, Vitters, Cedeno, Marshall and another prospect for just Peavy in return, thats a lot to give up for just Peavy. I know Peavy is a Cy young candidate and i have been all for trading for him, but you're giving a lot for just him, especially when he prefers to be a Cub and Padres GM can't trade him to Atlanta since he doesn't want to go there. If the orioles want pie and cedeno for Olson, imagine what they want for roberts now. If i were the cubs i would engage the Marlins instead, hopefully they're the second third team that Tim Brown at Yahoo Sports mentioned.
  8. Just wondering why no one has mentioned Renteria as a possible signee. I feel he's better than theriot but then again a may just be my hatred for theriot talking. Just wondering if anyone would be opposed if Renteria was signed for like 8 million a year which i doubt but just wondering.
  9. Is that a bad thing? Are they supposed to say one thing at the beginning of November and stick with that until spring training, no matter how things change or progress during the offseason? Not really i just find it annoying how a person like Olney says the cubs have no shot at Harden and then once the deal goes down, he comments as if he knows it would happen. Or on the other hand you have the reporter who puts out rumor knowing it doesnt have legs but just to put it out. Kind of like how people were all geeked for the Roberts talk last year and then it didnt happen. And yeah sorry about that, read the rest of the blog.
  10. Hey Bruce, i know this is off topic but any news on any cubs dealings, Peavy, Abreu, etc. I'm tired of hearing Bruce Levine, Olney, or Rosenthal dont trust so much what they say, they always change their story as the story progresses.
  11. Ha ha I was just being sarcastic plus I'm hoping the cubs pursue furcal
  12. first of I capitalized grind and toughness by accident idiot. I didn't capitalize it to make a point. Another thing didn't one of you guys post not to emphasize certain stats but yet you want to talk on base. Second people don't like theriot because he is garbage. You guys want to criticize but yet you call theriot average defensively, give me a break, anybody can look average if their range consists of a foot to the left and right. Then you have his noodle arm that is accurate for the most part since it's being thrown at 50mph.
  13. Can we just end this by saying Green sucks and Theriot is either average or just below. And unless the Cubs get an option at SS like Furcal, they're better just focusing on something else. I really am interested to see if Fontenot can play short because if he can, he better be our starting SS cause he would definitely be an upgrade over theriot.
  14. Once the bids come in for the cubs and we have good idea of who our owner is, we'll know if this deal is going down. I think the cubs are just at the point where they're not sure if they can increase payroll so they need to make sure with the future owner. But if by some miracle we trade Marquis, then i would imagine something might get done. I feel Hendry would want to get something done before the winter meetings in case towers gets better offers at those meeting but if the rumors are true and peavy only wants to be here, then it really doesn't matter. The Angels do scare me as a possible suitor but then again if they sign Tex or CC i would imagine they'd be out if it.
  15. true that, i just didn't feel like copy pasting every stat like obp, slug, etc. Either way like i said, its just my opinion but i feel that Theriot is overrated in this organization and i'd rather have Cedeno out there. Neither one is a great shortstop. I'm just sick and tired of seeing Theriot at the plate waiting to get walked and watching the pitch come in. You rarely saw theriot either hit an extra base hit or drive in a run, then when he got on base it was almost a 50/50 chance he was going to get caught stealing. Then on the defensive side, you'd see balls go through the middle that a normal shortstop would easily field. Sorry just frustration but to me the day theriot gets traded, will be a happy day which why i'm hoping he gets packaged in this peavy deal if it ever gets done.
  16. Kind of hard to criticize anyone's talent evaluation abilities after making a statement like that. Theriot may not be the most sexy SS in baseball, but how can you honestly justify saying that Cedeno is better? IMO Hendry has done a pretty good job at evaluating talent since becoming GM. Sure he gets lucky sometimes like with Edmonds, Johnson, etc. But whenever he has gambled with those type of players he has done so at very little cost. It has never been Hendry's MO to vastly overpay for talent in a trade. In regard to Teahan, Hendry probably views him as a buy low guy that may have potential if he can be acquired at the right price. Like i said in my opinion Cedeno is better. In Cedeno's first full season hit .249 6 hr 41 Rbis, Theriots first season he hit .266 3 hr and 45 RBIs. Not much of a difference plus Cedenos has greater range and a stronger arm than theriot. Theriot did hit over .300 last year but it was his second season, has Cedeno really had a chance to play a 2nd season? no. Plus not to mention, Theriot hit .300 on a team full of hitters, so he got some good pitches to hit. You can't also measure how many runs or hits were given up because of Theriots lack of range or arm. Theriot made some nice plays that would have been routine for other shortstops. I would rather give Cedeno a shot at Shortstop. Please dont bring up his stats last year because although it was average he was a spot starter so you can't compare him to Theriot who knows his job is secure. Plus Theriot is the master of hitting the worthless single and also one of the worst base stealers. At the end of the day if its not Cedeno, Fontenot should at least get the opportunity to play shortstop to see he can fit in. If Fontenot at the least has the type of defense as Theriot does, i'd rather have Fonteno since he can actually get extra base hits. Too many Chicagoans are in love with Theriot but yet his presence in the lineup doesn't really do much since he rarely even scores.
  17. I really dont have much faith in Hendry when it comes to talent evaluation. I mean when you even consider Teahan as a solution to a LF bat in the lineup you have to be pretty dumb. Teahan shouldn't even be considered since Fukudome puts up better numbers, what people forget to acknowledge is that Fukudome is coming off his first yr in the majors, think of his year last year as a rookie, he'll adjust and put up better numbers next year. He's not use to the Grind and Toughness of the league. I'd rather have the cubs leave Fukudome out there at Right and trade for Peavy than trade for Teahan and not trade for Peavy. If the Cubs trade for Teahan i will be very dissapointed especially if they trade Pie away or let him go. Call me crazy but i even think Pie is better than Teahan, what annoys me about Piniella is that he puts too much in "veteran experience." I mean he hasn't really given Pie a shot and well, its led a lot of fans to believe that Pie is garbage. The way Piniella is with Pie and some of the other young cubs players, really reminds me of how scott skiles was with the bulls. Skiles loved to play the veterans only and always had a short leash on the young players, just as Piniella does. You could even say that Theriot is Scott Skile's Kirk Hinrich. I'm really annoyed with how much playing time Theriot gets when i honestly think Cedeno is better than Theriot. I would rather start Derosa, Fontenot, and Cedeno at short, than Theriot. Sometimes Lou gets lucky and a young player shows immediate promise like Soto but imagine if Soto began his debut with a 2 week slump, Lou probably would've given up on him and played Kendall and maybe even requested Kendall to be resigned.
  18. Can we please stick to the topic which is Peavy. they should probably close this thread until something significant comes out. I dont think we'll hear anything until after Dec 1st. Or probably til after the cubs have an owner selected so that they can ask for approval to adding more to the payroll.
  19. While Mark Teahen is a player of interest for the Cubs, they certainly won't be trading Mike Fontenot and Sean Marshall for him. The Cubs don't really consider Teahen the middle of the order bat they require. Courtesy of Mlbtraderumors.com Thank you if this is true.
  20. why would you trade veal for lifetime .248 hitter who hit .213 last year, dont we have Cedeno already? I understand why people think Greene is an upgrade over Theriot, i hate theriot and i still think he's better than Greene. If you are going to look for an upgrade over theriot, than think about Furcal, Renteria, Tejada, Philips, etc before thinking about Greene.
  21. I feel that Lee, Marquis, Theriot should not be untouchable for trades. Theriot in my opinion is a liability because his arm does not belong at shortstop, second or even backup catch in the bullpen. Marquis is going to be tough to trade because of his contract, if the cubs can get away with dumping Marquis for nothing and just getting rid of his contract, i'd do it. As for Lee, he should be traded cause he still has some value and letting his contract go would free up some cap space and also free the cubs up of some many double plays. If the cubs can get rid of Lee, theriot and Marquis and in return put Peavy, Furcal in the lineup, then its a no brainer. The Dempster signing and the possibililty of getting Teahen are probably two of the biggest mistakes we could do. I honestly think Dempster's season last year was basically an Esteban Loaiza occurence. If the cubs really had to pick between dempster and peavy and they choose dempster, i will be highly dissapointed. Its obvious peavy wants to be here and if its either peavy or a LH hitter, i'd rather leave Fukudome and get peavy, pitchings wins championship not offense.
