  1. how exactly does he do this?
  2. nsbb and bcb are both now regularly posting bruce's columns/blogs. it's like children fighting for their father's attention! not saying anything is wrong with posting his words, by the way. just humorous to me.
  3. That's a myth. Baseball fans had come back before after strikes and they would have eventually come back again. no, it's definitely not a myth. sosa and mcgwire brought back plenty of fans. myself being one of them. to say that they didnt means that you just werent paying attention. Of course I was paying attention. I had McGwire in my home run pool. It was an exciting year and brought in a some casual fans "who only dug the long ball" but do you really think baseball would have filed bankruptcy if the McGwire/Sosa home run race hadn't occured? filed bankruptcy? no. reached the level of popularity that it did as a direct result of the media craze surrounding sosa and mcgwire? also no. it didnt only bring in new casual fans, it also brought BACK long time fans.

  5. This is probably my favorite Cubs' moment. I still get chills every time I watch that highlight. which game was that from? the hr in the 9th against the brewers?
  6. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/2009-02-11-selig-arod_N.htm?loc=interstitialskip i dont see how this can happen. unless you know for a fact that a person didn't cheat (which, we'll never know with aaron and all the other pre-testing guys) then how can you just say "oh i'm just gonna assume that he didn't, so he's the HR king." thoughts?
  7. Whats the going rate for a back up infielder? Gm's pay players what they demand that year. If you need a veteran back up infielder, thats what they cost this offseason. Not to be rude but people complaining about Aaron Miles and 2.2m he makes next year have too much time on their hands to complain. Miles salary has very little impact on our team as a whole. Thats the guy Hendry wanted for the bench, he will help the team. If you don't like his salary and think he's getting paid 1m too much. Well that sucks, but thats the market for back up middle infielders. What is worse...complaing about moves... or complaining about people making those complaints on an internet message board? In the offseason you generally discuss offseason moves. If you are upset with people criticizing moves and our beloved GM, ignore them. Nobody is forcing you to read it. Also, the going rate for backup infielders are one year contracts, not 2 years. The 2 years is what makes it looks bad. what's the big deal about the second year? if he only signed miles to a one year deal, he would've just signed another backup infielder the following offseason.
  8. i too would be interested to know the exact details of the vesting 2011 option, if anyone has a link documenting it.
  9. i dont put a lot of percentage on defense when evaluating a player, so i tend to agree with your post for the most part. i take issue with the quoted portion though. that's just not true.
  10. This is my sentiment. This is the first time in many, many years that players have become the bargains they are this offseason. Hendry should not be faulted for signing Bradley regardless of what Dunn or Abreu signed for. The Miles signing is bad because it's a 2-year deal for Aaron Freaking Miles, not because of the other bargains to be had. I don't really think anybody is faulting him for signing Bradley in this thread. I noyl brought him up because that guy brought up outfielders and how they is no market for them. I'm talking about Miles being a bad signing. which, again, has nothing to do with bobby abreu. bitching about miles in a discussion about abreu is pointless.
  11. actually miles has nothing to do with abreu
  12. how can you not like craig biggio? agreed on bagwell.
  13. what kind of sick you know what would want to watch a video of someone dying?
  14. what a strange offseason
  15. who gets creeped out by a bobblehead?
  16. i'm confused here. so arod felt all this pressure when he got to texas, which is why he took roids. his words, right? by that logic, wouldn't he have taken roids in new york as well? i'm not sure i buy his story that he stopped in 2003.
  17. i know i'm really late here, but are you talking about the play from the missouri game last night? the one where the player blatatanly elbowed the ref as he walked by? it that's not a technical i dont know what is.
  18. i'm just now watching arod's thing from earlier....... is he wearing lipstick??
  19. how does one become a moderator here by the way? not that i wanna be one, just curious.
  20. arod average hr's per year from '01-'03... 52 arod average hr's every other year... 39.2
  21. Yeah, now he comes clean. After he got caught. that's generally how it happens.
  22. wow, didnt see that coming. good for him for coming clean.
  23. wow, they have the angels finishing under .500? i know they lost their closer and their first baseman, but that seems a bit much.
  24. that homer on opening day last year was the worst possible thing for him. he was elevated to hero status his first game as a cub. tough expectations to live up to, especially for him. i too think he's going to have a nice season this year.
