  1. any time i think of juan pierre i think of him grounding out weekly to the second baseman. that kinda sums up his tenure as a cub.
  2. So why continue to subject yourself to "this place?" Pretty much all you've done since joining is pick fights, insult other posters and complan about how stupid everyone is and how awful this board is. Do yourself a favor. exhibit b. actually i haven't done any of that. at all. that's pretty offensive for you to say when it's completely untrue. i like this board. it's educational and a good place to talk baseball. but posts like the one i replied to bring it down so much, and unfortunately posts like that aren't exactly uncommon here.
  3. was just coming here to post this. hilarious! i just wish lou would've commented on steve phillips being a terrible gm.
  4. Ted Lilly was/ is much better. Do you need me to tell you why this is a stupid response, or can you work it out on your own? god what an unnecessary and [expletive] response. posts like this make this place borderline miserable. to address the post.......... i don't know how relevant 2006 is since lilly wasn't even on the cubs, but lilly was absolutely better than hill was in 2007. and considering that ted still knows how to throw strikes, he's unarguably better right now.
  5. omg, do you have a learning disability? no one is saying the cubs shouldn't have traded hill or that hill is currently awesome at pitching. omg srsly? lol my bff. where did i say anything like that? how about.... nowhere? if you're going to respond to my post... please actually respond to the post. In the above quoted post. The implication of "sticking up for him" is supposed to mean...what? Nobody is going out of their way to defend him when they simply point out what he was able to do before he flopped. and what's the point of pointing out what he was able to do before he became a guy who couldn't throw strikes? when someone says "god rich hill really sucks now" is it really necessary to have the same people over and over come and say "yeah well look what he did in 2007!!!" who cares what he did then? he's beyond pathetic now. cut the cord.
  6. Actually, it's not. Guys are able to sustain inflated careers and contracts on far less. this is stupid. baseball is a sport of longevity. if a guy says that he played pro ball for a year and a half, you would say that he was a pro baseball player for a very brief period? would you not? same thing.

  8. are you kidding? a season and a half is incredibly brief in baseball, homey.
  9. andruw is on there. no aaron miles? i thought that was the worst deal ever?
  10. Probably because what you're ranting about isn't happening. right, no one here is going out of their way to defend a guy who had success as a cub for a very, very brief period and then completely tanked. come on.
  11. I think I miscounted relievers anyway. If they break camp with 12 pitchers, that would be the 5 starters+ Gregg, Marmol, Heilman, Vizcaino, Gaudin, Cotts/Stanton/Lefty, and 1 more. I guess Guzman could easily be that last guy, unless Shark dazzles his way through ST. The problem is, Gooz better be impressive, because we all know how fast Lou looses patience, especially when it comes to young pitchers, and if it comes down to it, I doubt he'll care that Gooz is a one time top prospect, and ship him off to wherever. That's not true. As long as the pitcher throws strikes, Lou has infinite patience to let that pitcher struggle to come up with a way to get hitters out, even if those outs are line shots to the wall. and your example of that would be...
  12. the amount of love/support/whatever that rich hill gets on here is truly amazing. the guy couldn't throw strikes all year, couldn't throw strikes in winter ball, and as a result he rightly so gets shipped out of town. then he claims that an injury was why he couldn't throw strikes last year (of course with no explanation for his continued lack of control in winter ball). then he gets to o's camp and STILL CAN'T THROW STRIKES. yet people are still sticking up for him like he's the greatest cub ever. i don't get it. i know, i know... the rich hill "hate" is truly amazing too. spare me that weak counter.
  13. memory refresh time... guzman can go to iowa if he passes through waivers. i know that. but if another team claims him do they have to put him on their ML roster? does he have to stay there? i know i'm getting mixed up thinking of the rule v draft.
  14. cabrera was wanting 9 and he got 4. nice pickup by the a's.
  15. no bradley again? so after today he'll have played, what, 1 out of 36 ST innings? or is it one out of 45?
  16. That's it. What's the point of having a Shilling if he's just going to put up a 5 ERA? His aura doesn't get to pitch. why would he put up a 5 era? he's done that once since he became a starter in 1990. which was in 2005, when he two thirds of the games he pitched in came out of the pen. that was the only year since 94 his era has been over FOUR. really, there's zero reason to assume that he won't be effective. it's just a question of is he healthy? I can think of at least two reasons why he won't be effective: 1. He's really old. 2. He hasn't pitched in quite a while. both of those are valid concerns. but i don't think it's logical just to ASSUME that he's going to suck.
  17. kansas fans hold up pictures of a guy wielding a shotgun at their basketball games? that's hysterical. never noticed that before. though i haven't watched a lot of their games, i guess.

  19. god jay cutler is such a baby.
  20. I don't see that as saying they were equals at all. That was a response to all the people saying they had "never liked Hill" for nebulous reasons pertaining more to assumptions about his mentality and personality than his actual performance. where did anyone say anything remotely near that?
  21. Bruce's blog: Confirmed in an article on cubs.com. You have to confirm what I've told you? oh snap!
  22. where did he say the cubs? the article quotes him as saying chicago, which doesn't necessarily mean for the cubs.
  23. i don't know how the hell georgetown is winning this game.
  24. Well, that, and last year when he hit .342/.400/.534/137 (avg/obp/slg/ops+) in the big leauges (33 games). Oh, and dont forget the last two years in AAA where he's hit: Year - avg/obp/slg/ops 2007 - .319/.365/.552/.917 2008 - .362/.393/.752/1.145 No one is jumping on his bandwagon out of nowhere. good points. i forgot how solid he was last year in his brief time with the big league club.
  25. here's that back up for aramis people were wondering about. can he play anywhere other than 3b? i know that's the only place he's played this decade, but you never know.
