  1. does michigan have anyone who can stop blake griffen?
  2. that's awesome! wonder what his teammates think of it though
  3. In 2007? He most certainly did offer power. http://www.baseball-reference.com/w/wardda01.shtml If you're talking specifically about home runs, that's different. not as a pinch hitter he didn't. unless you consider a .341 SLG to be good power. That's not his only role as a bench player. What, are you going to evaluate Hoff's numbers last year and then this year based only his PH appearances? what are you talking about? i merely stated that it will be nice, hopefully, to have a LH power threat that can come off the bench late in the game in pinch hit situations. do you disagree with that statement? No. What I'm saying is that Hoff's value won't hinge on PH performance as you're seemingly trying to do with Ward in 2007. of course it wont. and nowhere did i say anything remotely similar to that. i was talking about his PH contributions to the team, not his overall contributions. seemed pretty straight-forward to me but i guess it was harder to read that than i thought.

  5. god youre annoying. what the hell is the point of a post like this?
  6. What quality moves have they made? They lost Lowe and Saito and added.........? Randy Wolf? Orland Hudson? They got worse roster-wise. They need all their young guys to take a huge step forward if they want to end up with anywhee near the best record in the NL. Plus Pedro is not an ace. There are no aces on the market right now so I don't see how that is their plan right now. i don't know enough about the dodgers to intelligently comment overall, but you can't overlook the addition of manny for a full season in 2009 rather than a couple months in 2008. that's huge.
  7. really? i've got them beating oklahoma/clemson (no faith in ou at all, they've sucked down the stretch), but then losing to unc. although the sooner syracuse is out, the less we hear about the 6ot game, which of course will be a great thing.
  8. how did the "most statistically probable" outcomes turn out last year? Pretty darned good, considering the four 1 seeds made the Final Four. sorry, i was talking about when going with the most likely upsets amongst 5-12's or 6-11's. do you happen to know?
  9. how did the "most statistically probable" outcomes turn out last year?
  10. the red eye picked them. and honestly, i wouldn't be surprised if arizona did win. surely the players are reading/seeing everyone say that they don't belong. there's gotta be some motivation there. plus utah isn't the greatest team in the world.

  12. if anything, it would require 1-2 people in the lineup moving down. i don't see that as being significant at all. but i agree with those who don't have a problem with this.
  13. good. hopefully we'll finally have some LH pop off the bench in the late innings. i'm sure i'm forgetting someone, but i feel like it's been awhile. and don't say ward, he got on base very well as PH in '07 but didn't offer any power at all in that role.
  14. oklahoma as a two is ridiculous
  15. how is philly a west site???
  16. there defense really impressed me in the game i saw the other night. so i looked up some of their stats. in their three big 12 tourney games, baylor scored 16 less than their average, osu 22 less, and texas tech 18 less. if they can keep playing great defense like that, they might make a serious run.
  17. Group A: Ryan Howard Group B: Ryan Braun, Manny Ramirez, Group C: Alfonso Soriano, Evan Longoria, Jason Bay Group D: David Ortiz, Alexie Ramirez, Justin Morneau, Alex Gordon, Jay Bruce
  18. god what a stupid and unnecessary thing to say. i mean really, who actually has that phrase enter their mind? and who takes it further and actually says it? uncanny. lol relax im pretty sure he didn't mean it literally well i didn't think he meant it literally. it's still stupid and unnecessary especially for this "family" board. if anybody is offended by that then that's pretty sad i'm not offended by it at all, it's just a stupid statement. like something a redneck would say.

  20. what are you talking about? derosa makes more than two times what miles makes. if you're gonna bitch about trading derosa and signing miles (which is perfectly valid) in the offseason, at least have the facts straight. Jesus, dude - who peed in your cornflakes? Miles is making 2+million and DeRosa is making 5+ million this year. All he said is that the prices were comparable. Yes it's double his salary but in the grand scheme of things when you have players making 15-20 mil, the ~3M difference between the two players is certainly comparable. sorry, 2 mil and 5 mil isn't comparable. In your opinion. I agree it's a bit of a stretch, but like someone pointed out earlier, on a team with a 140 million dollar payroll, 3 million bucks isn't much. and as someone else pointed out (me), when 7 of your 25 players make a combined 86 million, a difference of 3 million dollars is certainly significant when it comes to filling out your roster.
  21. god what a stupid and unnecessary thing to say. i mean really, who actually has that phrase enter their mind? and who takes it further and actually says it? uncanny.
  22. lol, what? i know you meant "allowed" but how do you mistake those two?
  23. wait, PLAYERS were flashing gang signs?! or fans? either way, it's pathetic.
  24. Miles career numbers of 290 and 329 OBP are just fine for a bench player. If Miles could get on base at a higher rate, he would be seen as a everyday player(like Theriot and many others). Last year he had a big year and the media started thinking he might be a regular this year, but obviously the Cubs don't expect him to repeat those numbers. Most back up middle infielders don't have higher then a 329 career OBP, and thats why there back ups. Miles asset to the bench is he could hit for average. He can fill in for a regular and go 2 for 4 on any given day, and he can come off the bench and get a big hit off a good pitcher. Having a guy who can consistently hit the ball off the bench is valueable to a team, even if he's only getting singles. There was plenty of times last year, when if Cedeno or Ward just got a single, we would have gotten runs and won a game we lost. Of course the bench also needs power, and thats why Hoffpauir or even Koskie need to be on the roster, and be at the plate with alot of guys on base. But I don't see how having Miles as a back up is bad for the team. I know you love to defend hendry at all costs, but you sill haven't explained why it's okay to give a crappy backup infielder a 2 year deal what does that matter? the cubs, and just about every other major league team, are going to have a crappy backup infielder on the roster year after year. what difference does it make if you sign one to a two year deal, or sign ones to one year deals every year? the money is the problem with miles, not the years.
  25. he's not that productive. but at the same time, not many backup middle infielders are. that's, essentially, why they're backups. i don't have a problem with miles on the roster. if not miles, we'd have another light hitting middle infielder. he's overpaid though, that's my problem. Or, to continue an overblown point that I see all sides to but is the large reason why there is contempt for Miles, we'd have Mark DeRosa. derosa wasnt traded so that we could sign miles, come on.
