  1. Is Marcus Hatley anything more than minor league filler/majore league bullpen fodder, he will be 25 this year and has pitched under 20IP in AAA? He's a pretty big guy at 6'5" 220. He's had good-decent SO/9 numbers, looks like he has some control issues, higher than average BB/9 (is this a result of good stuff but not refining it yet? Or just wildness with average stuff?) He doesn't give up many HR's, only 19 in over 300 career minor league innings.
  2. From the WHAT THE [expletive] [expletive] news  http://www.yardbarker.com/college_football/articles/msn/urban_meyer_tells_a_story_of_woody_hayes_getting_weird_with_a_turtle/12899017
  3. Lunardi's "Bracketology" currently has the following BIG teams in. Seeds next to name. Indiana (1) Minnesota (6) OSU (4) Wisconsin (5) MSU (3) Michigan (1) Illinois (11)
  4. Anytime you can acquire the next Jeter you throw physicals and the like out the window and just get the [expletive] deal done
  5. Samardzija turned down a 5 year extension sometime this offseason. Sounds like he wants more $$$....... http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/breaking/chi-samardzija-20130212,0,918738.story
  6. Samardzija turned down a 5 year extension sometime this offseason. Sounds like he wants more $$$....... http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/breaking/chi-samardzija-20130212,0,918738.story
  7. Simmons had Bucher and Stein on his podcast yesterday. I am pretty sure it was Bucher who said that he has sources with the Bulls saying he isn't coming back this year because they want to be extra careful with him and don't want to risk any further injury(s). They want him to have the full year off and that before the season even started they didn't want him to come back/weren't allowing him to come back until next year. He seemed weirdly certain that this is the case and that all these reports of him coming back this year are wildly overblown. FWIW
  8. So the NBA/Adidas is coming out with "short sleeve" jersey. The Warriors will be the first team to wear them this year and other teams will have their's come out next year. Guessing it's their way of maybe appealing to the European crowds more as the jerseys will look more like soccer jerseys and/or will provide a little more space for advertising when they start in the next few years. Looks pretty dumb to me. http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/8937595/golden-state-warriors-unveil-modern-short-sleeve-jerseys
  9. Hopefully once Garza proves he's healthy we could trade him+ another decent player(s)/prospect(s) to the Indians for Bauer, Chisenhall and maybe a low level pitching prospect with some upside. As it looks like they are in go for it mode and could use another top of the rotation arm.
  10. what's your pick for the best ring of the bunch? im going with top right I like 3, 7 and 10
  11. According to some of the ESPN guys on twitter the Mets made the same offer as the Indians
  12. in 2 years cleveland is going to seattlemariner it and offer him a long extension BEFORE THEY LOOK AT HIS ELBOW
  13. Plus they gain Bauer in the Choo deal, Choo and Swisher are pretty equal and Bauer is likely going to be a better prospect than anyone they could've taken in the 2nd/3rd round.
  14. Should Tim Saunders start to be on the poll? I know he's older/put up a crazy BABIP, but if we are looking at doing top 50, he probably has a place somewhere in there.
  15. Didn't really know where to put this, but looks like we see our first strategy with the new CBA in the international markets. As was discussed before when it was passed, do you play by the rules or go way over your limit for a year and get everyone you want and then pay the tax, sit a year out/have harsh restrictions that keep you from getting big time guys and then go back and go over your limit once the 2nd year has passed. Then rinse and repeat. Quote is from Badler, btw.
  16. Stern's going to fine them 100 billionty dollars I don't think they really give a [expletive] about the league http://www.vibe.com/sites/vibe.com/files/styles/main_image/public/article_images/la-sp-sn-tim-duncan-tony-parker-20121203-001.jpeg
  17. If guys can't get a bunt down at this point in their baseball careers they likely aren't going to get better at it and it's going to take more than one bunting competition in spring training for them to improve. Which I doubt most will, nor should they, take the time to practice bunting.
  18. That seems about right to me. However, if they make trades at the deadline it could be in the 60s again. Agreed, seem pretty reasonable if everyone gets to their career averages. But I see the Cubs having a lot of variability with players this year that could get them back into the 60's real quick. Garza's health, can Samardzija repeat what he did last year in his second full season as a starter, do Castro/Rizzo hit any extended streaks of slumping due to a learning curve/development, is Soriano a 4-5 win player again or back to around replacement level, will the RF/CF platoons actually put out like the stats suggest they should, do we get sub replacement level out of 3B again. I know every team has questions, but it seems like the Cubs have have more or at least their questions have a pretty big range of variation.
  19. Greg Maddux's first contract with the braves was 5/$28, better bet than all of those contract. That should be the maximum amount in years and dollars we offer to any free agent pitchers
  20. So we're only going to sign/trade for mediocre-good FA (Jackson, Hairston, Dejesus, etc) and all of the great players need to come from the system so that we get them on cheap contracts before they hit FA and then let them walk and if we fail to produce them we just won't look to acquire any?
  21. According to a poster on PSD Vogelbach reported in weighing 232 lbs. Down from 250ish last year
  22. They're doing that stupid [expletive] thing again this year? Only bad things can come of that, like Campana winning and the "fans" pointing to that as being a reason he should be starting over Soriano.
  23. MIggy Law made it sound like it's a known guy that people would know and is fairly good but not as big of a name as Miggy.
  24. Cut those side burns! http://i50.tinypic.com/2ih2w7s.jpg
