Heyward/J. Upton/Freeman/Simmons is a great core to build around long term and Uggla/B.J./McCann/Johnson are good short-term guys to put around them. Their offense is going to be really good.
From Wikipedia, The franchise was known about a few months before the game, logos/gear must have already been designed and sold around that time as well.
The OF should be fairly productive this year, assuming health. Soriano is good for 25 HR +/- 5 and .775 OPS +/- .025, Dejesus has a career .816 OPS v RHP, Hairston .825 v LHP, Sappelt is .955 v LHP (under 100 PA however), Schierholtz .732 v RHP. How is Hairston on defense? Also I guess this has to take us out of the Bourn sweepstakes
Excellent. Really like the addition, assuming it's under $10mm total, it's nice to have this OF flexibility and what could be some good CF/RF platoons. It also means Campana must be getting DFA'd/traded, which possibly is the best outcome of this signing.
Braves-D'Backs "seriously" discussing a J. Upton trade. Upton/Uggla/Heyward/Upton/Freeman/Prado/Whatever is left of McCann is a very nice offense. Reportedly Simmons won't be in the trade, which is weird, because the Braves don't have a lot of good position prospects other than him and really only have pitching, which is what the D'backs have a strength of already.
From what I've read the Cubs are still hoping to get the 2016 game for the 100th anniversary of Wrigley. Maybe that's changed over the last few days though. Who knows. Yeah I think they were hoping to have the complete renovations/additions done by then and were going to try and get a special exception to not have it in and AL park that season.

That'd be a lot of money tied up in the WR position with Welker and Marshall. I'd rather keep developing Jeffrey and maybe see what you can pick up in the draft. It would be a lot of money and maybe Welker isn't the guy, but I feel like a slot WR similar to Welker is a major need on the team. Probably a top 5 need, imo.
You guys think the Bears would have interest in Welker if the Pats decide not to re-sign him? He still is pretty good and the exact type of slot WR the Bears need.
Or they could do a 2 for 1 deal as marlon bystro was saying and it would be for a 40 man guy, but more of a 2 for one "upgrade". My target would be for a near ready pitcher. That's what I'm hoping for too. Lake + Szczur to SD for one of Kelly/Erlin/Wieland? Too much? Too little?
Yeah there's a very small chance of that happening, something really weird would have to happen like Castro injuring something that would impact his speed/range/throwing strength or putting on like 30+ lbs and becoming to big for the position, imo. Baez will be the one who moves off of SS to one of 2B/3B/LF/RF in all likelihood.
This was brought up on PSD, but if we really turned down a Lake for Escobar deal I'm interested to see what kind of trade we are looking at with him. Escobar's value obviously took a hit with his character issues, but he's a good player and if we turned down him for Lake I'd like to think we are looking to get a similar or better player back in return for him if Lake is the guy that goes.
Me, too. With Starlin being signed through 2019 at really nice prices and us still holding a 2020 option on him, I really want nothing to do with trading him. Yeah, there are very few guys I'd trade/build a package around Castro for. Upton isn't one of them. I wonder what else we offered along with Baez for Upton?
This is why I don't go to the Cubs Convention every year. You are surrounded by a majority people who do things like this and they also think we should still have Theriot/Fontenot as our SS/2B combo with Barney at 3B and Campana and Fuld manning the OF.
Cubs, Rangers, Mets, Royals? I haven't heard anything about the Royals being interested but they could use another OF and with the Shields trade are trying to win now, Boras always gets his guys their money and Dayton Moore is, well, Dayton Moore.
Well.... That's interesting.... Why do we only have Almora for 3 years and of all teams he ends up on the Brewers? Also is "The Rizz Kid" really something people call Rizzo? If so this must be stopped immediately.
