  1. He hasn't done anything meaningful in the last 3 years
  2. Underwood Alcantara Torreyes
  3. Depends how well he does in SEAL training this spring
  4. If we are "Dreaming" I'd like to think at least one of Maples/Johnson/Underwood/Vizcaino/Paniagua maxed out their potential and was somewhere in there
  5. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-orioles-sign-greenberg-20121220,0,3727538.story Maybe there is some sort of chairtable donation deduction the Orioles can claim on their taxes for signing him to a contract, like when companines donate money to the Make a Wish Foundation.
  6. Some sort of move has to be coming, even a little one like cutting Clevenger/Raley/Rusin/etc., since we are at 43 on the 40-man. Hopefully Jed/Theo are finalizing the compounds of their trade rape drugs.
  7. As with the hypothetical Castro deals, if you're trading Samardzija and you aren't getting back at least 1 young player with some MLB success under his belt, you've already lost. Agreed. Maybin/Gyorko/Portillo or Kelly would be something I could possibly like, but if we made him available I'd think that we could find a team willing to give up a better package.
  8. Wood Yeah that's logical, but for whatever reason I just can't imagine Wood and Villanueva sitting in the bullpen. Granted that would make for a vastly improved pen. I think the chances that both would remain in the pen all year are pretty slim. Well, yeah. But the pen could use another LHP, Villanueva/Feldman/Baker/Wood are all about on the same level of value as starters. So it makes sense to start Wood in the pen at the beginning of the year for an extra LHP and let those others guys start/be the swing guy in the pen and/or let Baker start the year in Iowa/EXST to work on things.
  9. Plus he's playing OF. He could be a "super sub" type guy for us very soon. We need a RH bat at 3B/CF/RF for platoon and matchups as well, he should get an opportunity to prove he's the guy for that role sometime this year.
  10. Rusin or Raley wouldn't be missed. Clevenger, go with Castillo/Navarro into the season always can find someone of Clevenger's abilities on the FA wire during the year if one of those guys get hurt/sucks.
  11. Could they even get a 4th-6th round pick for him if they ate most of the contract/took back an even worse one?
  12. I'm decidedly not excited about 4/52, but .... it's not that bad. Just wonder if, in their minds as of right now (acknowledging that a lot of things can change), this is a swap (signing Jackson and then dealing Garza) or if it's to give them three solid arms in their prime to build around. Pretty much a market value contract. He's averaged about 3.5 fWAR a year the last 4 years and 1 WAR = about $4-4.5mm. If not a bit below.
  13. Clearly, you don't even know what week we are in
  14. If you want to buy anything better than average pitching on the market, it costs money. Which we have in theory. Right now in our "plan", I'd rather burn money that trade prospects from a not better than shallow pool of good. :-k
  15. Underwood Candelario Alcantara
  16. I know it was reported a few days ago the Padres wouldn't go more than 3 years. Maybe the Cubs/Rangers are offering 4, or even 5. Could be a years and not aav thing.
  17. Oh great, this [expletive] dance again Please let it be true though,
  18. Has Vitters been assigned/picked up by another winter league team since bing let go? Or will he be done seeing action until spring now?
  19. Presumably to make room for Puig? I could see an Ethier Lee/Pederson and maybe an extra prospect or cash to the Rangers for Olt. Seems to be a fit for both teams, Rangers need an OF bat, Dodgers need a 3B.
  20. ??? Meaning they were/are going to add old(er) veterans, presumably proven players, before his injury made him a relative unknown?
  21. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
  22. Don't know if this was posted a while back, but saw it on a Brewers message board. :-k http://i.imgur.com/nYCLL.gif
  23. I don't think I'd be opposed to giving him a 4 yr deal if needed. -< 30 -former mega prospect -strikes out a lot of guys -doesn't walk too many guys I'm kind of shocked that Theo is pounding his door down. If we had 5/77 on the table for Sanchez, we should be willing to go at least 4/55 for him. You left out 6 seasons of 30+ starts. Really no reason to not give him a 4th year. Over the past three years, he ranks 37th in the league (qualified) with a 3.74 xFIP (Sanchez had a 3.63). Yeah Jackson has been a very above average pitcher for his career but seems to get a weird label as not being that good for some reason. Does he have starts where he comes out and just gets shelled, or what? Is he a "bad clubhouse guy?" There's no reason to be in the 4/45-55 range for him if we were going almost 5/80 on Sanchez.
  24. Who voted for McNutt? Care to explain? I get we are getting to the point where you can make an argument for about 20 guys to be anywhere between 12-20 but McNutt has had two straight years in AA now where he has put up pretty average-bad numbers. K/9 around 6 both seasons, BB/9 around 4, WHIPS of 1.6 and 1.4 and hasn't gone over 100 IP the last two years. He seems to have lost a lot of the promise from 2010 and it's looking more likely that he is a pen guy at best in the majors.
