  1. We got our very own greek god of walks. Tim, Don't yet rule out the other Greek God of Walks coming here. Hoops You saying the Cubs are interested in Youkilis? If they feel the likes of Olt/Watkins/Vitters can't cut it a Valbuena/Youklis/Barney pseudo platoon between 3B/2B wouldn't be the worst thing. Assuming he is healthy (or as healthy as he can be given the stage of his career).

  3. So apparently there were no "negotiations" with the Kobe deal, that was the FIRST OFFER from the team without Kobe offering something first or coming back with anything. Jesus.
  4. Really? Evans isn't anything special and owed ~$32 million over the next 3 years and Rivers is a fringe player who probably should be the the D League and was one of, if not the worst, players in the league last year. You aren't going to get anything "special" back for a half-season of Lou, and the numbers have to work. Evans has scored quite a bit, had an 18-plus PER last season, and is only 24. Rivers is only 21 and in his second year, so he's worth a roll of the dice. He has enough range to be a solid 3-point threat if he develops. Yeah, I think I'd just rather get picks and/or a good-decent young player on a cheaper deal. Here's a crazy trade I just did because I'm currently in a trade machine rabbit hole (this is operating off the assumption the Bucks owner truly is going to try and get the 8 seed or better at all costs). Bulls get: Larry Sanders, Perkins, Sefolosha (expiring), Ekpe Udoh (expiring) Bucks get: Deng, Collison, Perry Jones, Steve Adams Thunder get: Noah, Caron Butler, Gary Neal Bucks lineup moving forward: Knight, Mayo, Deng, Ilyasova, Henson/Pachulia Bulls lineup: Hinrich, Butler, Sefolosha, Boozer, Sanders Thunder lineup: Russ, Neal/Butler/Lamb, Durant, Ibaka, Noah

  6. It's probably some stupid Kris Bryant bobblehead day or something. What the hell big announcement could they have? Yeah it's going to be nothing important other than like a new PA announcer or broadcast guy. Maybe a new stadium/renovations? No idea what their situation is with that. The Cubs wouldn't let them be the first to report any prospect/Cubs related news of importance.
  7. He paid his debt to MLB. Did he? He served his suspension, did he not?
  8. Another Seattle player suspended for PED's, what is this like 7 guys over the past 2-3 years? http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/10029864/walter-thurmond-seattle-seahawks-facing-four-game-suspension-violation-league-substance-policy

  10. They would likely be able to stay under the luxury cap in that situation. Guessing Deng gets $11-13 (AAV) on his next deal which would put them around $61 million next year. What kind of contract does Mirotic get (rookie scale?) if it's a rookie deal they should be able to stay below the $71 mil number for lux tax by bringing guys in on minimums and using their mini/mid exceptions.

  12. Kobe signs a 2-year extension, worth around $48 mil.
  13. We do have a lot of depth there, so I wouldn't target Lawrie as the centerpiece, but he still put up nearly a 3 WAR last season and about a 5 WAR the year before and is still 23. Didn't he come up as a 2B, though? He could be an option there. I think you are right, idk if he switched to 3B because he couldn't handle 2B or because the Brewers had Weeks locked in at 2B and an opening at 3B so they made him change.
  14. That's a good addition for them for back/mid rotation help. He put up a 3.67 xFIP and posted his highest career HR/FB rate last year so moving to that park/division should help keep that a little lower. Wouldn't be surprised if he puts up a 2.5-3.5 WAR next year if he's healthy and makes +/- 30 starts. I would assume this takes the Dodgers out of the running for acquiring Samardzija, not that they were ever really a great fit and/or confirmed to be interested.
  15. They'll still win the division by 2 or 3 games because of how irredeemably terrible the other 3 teams in that division are. The Jaguars aren't even in last place in that division now. Yeah that's crazy. I would have called you a [expletive] idiot before the year if you told me Houston and Atlanta would be picking 1-2 in the draft.
  16. I think 33-35 wins could get the 8 seed this year and probably 37-40 gets the 7 seed.
  17. The Colts suck
  18. Simmons has a 2-part podcast up right now that includes the likes of Bill James and Chuck Klosterman discussing the topic, fwiw.
  19. Yes. I meant to add more to my previous post. I assume it does/did, hope we take a serious run at him. Always have been a big fan.
  20. Well, I mean, nobody's expectations are that high right now, right? We've gone from hoping for Ellsbury and Price to hoping for Hughes and Guttierrez. But there's still plenty of time to come through on that lowered expectation. I mean, if we have to settle for Scott Baker as our free-agent pitcher, that's a new level of disappointment, but we aren't there yet. I kinda like Hughes and wouldn't be opposed to committing to him for a few years on the right deal. His home/road splits are fairly significant, especially last year, he's only 27 and his velocity seems to still be in line with his norms. I think he could make a decent sized jump in the right direction moving from Yankee stadium and AL to NL.
  21. Does the Freese trade make Kendrick even more available than he already was prior to acquiring Freese?
  22. Isn't this something dictated by your league/commish?
  23. I think the family has already sunk a lot of money around the park. I don't think anyone would take them seriously. What have they done other than buy the McDonalds property and put money into renderings of what the stadium could look like? I honestly don't know and am asking. I'd imagine, if they were smart, any other land/building purchases that they may be making are contingent on fudging for/renovations beginning.
