Scherzer's fastball velo was only 91 MPH tonight in his one inning, he's averaging over 94 this year.

They'll send him out there for the 5th to "get the win" but where Lester's pitch count is and looking bigger picture the rest of the season he should probably be done after the 4th here. -

And when we can blow past our limits in IFA in a year or two and Theo finds 1-3 more Eloy's, Torres', etc. isn't that no longer an option under the new cba? Yes and no. There are still limits, but you get your budget and can go over by x or y percent then be under spending limits for 2-3 years (like can only go $250k per signing) I think then it resets and you can go spend a lot again? (There's guys on here who know the rules better than me).

This might be my favorite one. I wrote about this in the other team game thread, but I don't get how they think they are far ahead of where we ever were on a rebuild. Sure they are winning a little more but they still don't have any superstars/all-stars. They don't have a Bryant or Rizzo anywhere, they have some pretty nice and solid players but almost all of them are closer to 3 WAR players than 5-7+ like Rizzo and Bryant are.

imagine if we hadn't needed to have (or had) happ turn into a significant part of the mlb roster... There's actually a part of me that thinks Happ gets moved in a Sonny Gray deal tomorrow. Theo gonna Theo. I could see it, with other like Zagunis, Caritini and filler and maybe even Grimm. He's knocked down in the pecking order, they just lost 2 relief pitchers. He could be a kinda buy low guy, he's shown flashes, if they gave him the closer/leveraged role for a future trade. Go to a 6-man rotation most of the rest of the year or tell Lackey he's only gonna start every other time through the rotation.

Who's spot does Wilson take on the 25-man? Grimm back down? Maybe a made up injury for Uehara since he's been kinda bad lately? We wouldn't cut Duensing, would we?

So if we face the Nats in the playoffs would Avila start over Willson vs Scherzer or Strasburg (if he's not dead)?

I know it's not the best way to look at it, but he's 18th in MLB in relief pitcher fWAR since 2015 and inside the top 25 or so since 2014. He's good. Plus he's controlled though next year. It might not be sexy or well known names, like David said it's kinda boring, but the trade helps and reduces the margins of errors/failure if there's injuries or regression with Willson and/or the bullpen the rest of the way. It also lets us have a pretty great bullpen to go to in the playoffs as early as the 5th inning/earliest sign of trouble and have elite options every inning.

This Sutter guys is kinda annoying to watch, he doesn't throw hard at all and works annoyingly fast.
