  1. Jaime Garcia to the Jays for 1/8, that’s a solid deal
  2. [tweet] [/tweet]
  3. You guys all get to redeem yourselves in like 9 months when you get to call your dads and tell them we signed Bryce
  4. Waffling, sure but I'm just glad you don't need to read much in to it to see he's clearly on the side so many are on this board that these guns are ridiculous and nobody should really have them. Like you said it's an obvious thing and it would've been nice to see more conviction from him along the lines of Kerr but I get why he played it a bit down the middle while still making his stance on it pretty clear. I wouldn't be surprised if we get a stronger statement/stance from him about it once Rizzo is back. I'll also be interested to see how Rizzo responds as I'd imagine he will get similar questions once he's back in camp.
  5. They were only $400,000 apart $6.5 vs $6.9 million, why not just settle and give him the $6.9 and be nice about it? He's the only cornerstone building block they have, why do something so nominal to piss him off and have a malcontent on the team all year and in future negotiations/dealings?
  6. lol - he's going to suck. How do you have a K/9 of 4 when you throw mid 90s and have decent secondary stuff? That seems impossible for a number of reasons, especially with the current strikeout heavy environment. I mean Uehara had a K/9 of 10 throwing 78 MPH fastballs last year.
  7. Yeah I could see it. Maybe start the year with Butler on the DL, Grimm in MLB and Maples in AAA. I think it would take multiple injuries or pretty drastic poor results/stuff from Grimm and Butler for Maples to make the opening day roster over them. Even if he is the best choice I doubt Maples makes the opening day roster, he'll start in AAA since he's the only one with options and it will let them keep at least one extra body around in Grimm/Butler to start the year.
  8. The Rangers and Oh "hit a snag" in their negotiations and the signing isn't done and Daniel's said nothing is imminent to be announced on any deals. FWIW
  9. You guys might want to sit down because I know this will shock you, but Danny Salazar experienced shoulder inflammation during the offseason and is a few weeks behind already
  10. May explain why he pitches out of the stretch now though. Why would that matter? All pitchers pitch out of the stretch with runners on base. But yes, overall agree I don't really care about SB against us.
  11. We also dropped a 38 year old starter in the process. The Cubs rotation next year in approximate order is 31, 29, 28, 34, 28. A 28 year old is first up if anyone falters. The Brewers far inferior rotation is 30, 25, 30, 32, and 28, with 31 year old Miley as 6th starter. Also, to that poster's original point, 6 of the Cubs' 13 pitchers were signed in free agency, 3 in the rotation. The Brewers? 5 of 13 and 2-3 in the rotation depending on where you think Miley lands. Someone should tell them that even when you play in the kiddie pool you still get wet. The Brewer fans also think they are loaded in pitching prospects and depth between Davies being a bit younger, Woodruff, Barnes, Peralta, Ortiz and others in the minors (though I believe non rate as TOR arms by any prospect guys). It will be great when all their pitching prospects go to the way of 90% of pitching prospects and either completely die off or hit a marginal amount of their upside value.
  12. I’m keeping Heyward when we get Bryce. It would be too costly to dump him in either money and/or prospects. Hopefully he’s good enough the next two seasons that he opts out in 2 years. Zobrist is the guy I’m moving and maybe Monty is the guy I’m attaching to him (with Smyly hopefully back we have a replacement along with Alzolay, etc hopefully taking steps forward in the system).
  13. Yeah my preferred route right now is to send out Zobrist to clear a spot/some marginal money for Harper. Heyward can move to CF, Happ becomes the super-sub and plays the OF vs lefties and 2B vs righties to shield Javy and maybe work him in at 1B here and there as a potential Rizzo replacement down the road, Almora is the 4/5 OF and plays vs lefties and is a late inning defensive replacement. There’s enough playing time there to keep everyone but Zobrist.
  14. I kind of doubt we can get a guy like that. There's far better opportunities out there for those types to actually make a team, than what we've got to offer. I'd love to get one, just doubt its plausible. As for Butler, my guess is we give him a serious look out of the pen. He's got stuff. Opening it up for one inning may turn him into something worthwhile. Wouldn't shock me to see him make the pen honestly, if we keep 8 guys.(counting Monty) That makes sense and is understandable and probably is wishfulish thinking. But if Butler makes the pen out of ST along with Monty we kinda screw ourselves with depth since neither would be stretched out to start if someone goes down. At the very least I’d like to figure out a way to keep Butler (like I said maybe just give him something like this Miley deal if possible) or see what else we could add.
  15. I know we are making fun of it, especially if he’s in their plans to be in the rotation out of ST, but I wouldn’t mind a similar move for a remaining FA SP like Hellickson, Feldman, Tillman, etc or even turning Eddie Butler’s contract in to something similar to what Miley got to keep him since he doesn’t have options/won’t make the team out of ST.
  16. I too thought their idea/model was dumb and wouldn’t work but I caved over the weekend with the Darvish signing. I got a 30% off for a year offer. Their Cubs coverage is really, really good and with all the other hires lately their MLB coverage overall should be quite good.
  17. Some other ones I like off the top of my head... Cishek leading the bullpen in a stupid stat like saves or ERA, Heyward putting up a .730-.750 OPS and ~5 WAR season (like 2014), Russell putting it mostly together and staying healthy for a 4.5-5+ WAR, Carl/Maples/Morrow trio rivaling any bullpen trio in baseball for some metric(s), all 5 starters finish with a WAR over 3 and ERA under 3.8, Happ/Almora combine for a top 5 CF in MLB in their platoon, Bryant/Rizzo/Schwarber over 100 HRs combined
  18. I voted Happ, Almora, Willy and Chatwood ones.
  19. It’s going to be great when we hear next year we pitched to Darvish we were getting Bryce (just like Heyward and Lester) and that influenced his decision and also Harper signing for less to come here like every other FA Theo’s targeted in a non-collusion year has done.
  20. The Brewers have been to the playoffs 3 times since 1982 and have 22 losing seasons (8 at 90+ losses and 1 100+ loss) over that time and other than Yelich they don’t have an impact player on the current roster or in the minors coming. But sure, that is it fun place to be.
  21. Beat me to it, but anyways
  22. Rapid, uneducated thoughts and opinions. Rizzo looks a little slimmer than where he was at end of year last year, Schwarber is gonna be a monster, Heyward’s swing and mechanics look the same more or less, that sound off of Happ’s bat
  23. The only jerseys I buy are no name/number on the back but I have a lot of the sherseys
  24. The Angels are going with a 6-man rotation this year, seems smart. Literally all their guys have battled significant injuries the last 1-3 years and all carry major risks and likely innings limit, will be interesting to see how it works and if it helps performance/health and if it’s the start of a new trend.
