  1. six straight days of baseball without an off-day to start the season is such a dream. honestly increases my enthusiasm for opening day by a significant amount. Seriously. I know they don't want to overweight the schedule and not have teams have a home game for the first ~3 weeks (and also have teams load up on home games early in the year and not have as many come summer/school being out) but there has to be a way with all the warm weather/domed teams/cities to start the year where there's just games played in those cities that we don't need those stupid off days built in to the middle of series the first 1-2 weeks where it seems we have 3 off days a week until the end of April. Milwaukee, Toronto, Atlanta, Miami, Tampa, Houston, Texas, Arizona, LA, LAA, SD, SF, Seattle, Oakland should all be home teams to start the year for about the first month to avoid those stupid off days and rain/weather/cold issues. Could probably even throw St. Louis and KC in there.
  2. That's if you believe there is a source. His posts stink of some dude reading the tea leaves and calling them a source. He reiterates the rumors that are out there and adds color.I'd say it's 50/50 whether the color is from a real source, or his furry friend Harvey. Maybe, but I think this guy is pretty legit. He's called things quite accurately and in the last week or 2 when he said things about the Brewers being after a pitcher the national media guys had tweets/articles about it within a day or 2.
  3. 35.4% from the college 3 isn't great and he's only taking 2 a game (SSS) and he's only at 62% from the FT line (I forgot where I saw it but there was a study done that showed college FT% being a better predictor of NBA 3 point success than college 3 percentage). I don't mean to be down on Bagley, I think he's the best college player this year and can see how he can be a good NBA player. I agree with you that his form seems pretty solid, especially for a big guy and "should" be workable to get better in the NBA at shooting. There just are some things with him that I can see keeping him for ever being all that special in the NBA.
  4. He seems like a real prick but from just a pure baseball/looking at his fangraphs page standpoint he’s a guy I’ve long wanted to have. You really need to read the book. Love him after reading it. I have it and started it when I had a few hours on a plane for a business trip last year and got a few chapters in then kinda forgot about it once I got back home. I've been meaning to finish it since that time and have just been kinda a lazy procrastinating bum in reading books in general lately that I'm trying to change (I use to read a lot more).
  5. but i'm giving him the attention he wants, so really the joke's on me I really hate when people act like their fan base is holier than thou Have to remember most Brewer fans are Packer fans and Packer fans are basically Cardinal fans in their sanctimony, BFIB, holier than thou [expletive].

  7. it backs up all the theories, or it piles on all the theories? Both? It backs it up because the source is someone in an actual MLB FO and isn’t some internet message board posters but also piles on to the theory we all kinda figured anyways.
  8. His tidbit on a Darvish was a little interesting and kinda backs up all our theories he’s holding a ton of moves up. Regardless of the current market conditions I don’t get how Darvish or his agent ever thought he was going to get some sort of record deal.
  9. Fixed *He also threw Aaron Rodgers under the bus and their whole friendship and business partnership (they had some restaurants and other things they were in together) were effectively ended by Braun being a lying POS and and having Rodgers publicly defend him on the basis the test was wrong and Braun was a stand up dude.
  10. Solid signing for them
  11. We are going to arbitration with Grimm, first ever for Theo/Jed running the Cubs. We offered $2.2 million and he asked for $2.475, surprised they couldn't settle around ~$2.3 million.
  12. I'm not entirely sold on Bagley. I think he will be a solid NBA player but don't know if he'll ever be a true franchise player, best guy on a championship team like you hope a #1 overall pick is. Like you said he definitely needs to develop the jumper and his ball skills, imo, or else he's going to go more of the way of guys we've seen recently of not quite a 4 because he lacks shooting/quickness and defense on the perimeter/ball skills and not quite a 5 since he lacks size. I think I'd take Ayton right now if I had the #1 pick. I know you generally just want to take BPA (especially if you think he's a franchise cornerstone) but from the Bulls perspective I also don't know exactly how well Lauri and Bagley fit together on the court at the same time.
  13. Actually, I disagree that they are that similar. Both are examples of curveballs, but I would say the one thrown by Carrasco is better. The one Lange throws actually has a "hump" to it -- ball traveling up before breaking down -- which sometimes tips off the pitch to the batter and allows them to adjust to it. The one thrown by Carrasco is a downer-curveball that is thrown very hard (88 mph) and breaks straight down. More of a slider than a true curveball. Reminds me of Mark Prior's curveball from back in the day. I would say Carrasco's CB is superior to Lange's for the two CBs shown here. Lange does have a great CB and will be really effective when he can command it. I’m just saying mechanics wise, not stuff or projection wise
  14. That is a strikingly similar comp seeing those 2 GIFS matched up
  15. It’s Nightengale so maybe it was 3 years for 2 dollars..... but if true, wtf
  16. Hot take incoming..... I’d rather have pissed off Jake on that 1+1 Fowler 2016 contract to prove the haters wrong than Darvish on a 4-6 year deal pitching for a team and city he doesn’t really want to be on/in and not being fully engaged here.
  17. It’s probably just LaStella’s stuff.
  18. Between Morrow, Chisek, Duensing, Smyly and Chatwood we have to of given out the most FA money of any team this offseason and still are going to be giving out a contract of significance for another starter. I don’t think we are. Plus Theo knows to stay under the LT, we are pretty much spending to our limit without hitting any penalty. If anything I’d guess is the other way and Ricketts is willing to spend whatever but Theo knows it’s good business not to hit that LT. the luxury tax penalties aren’t that bad. the whole thing is a scam to get the fans of big market teams like the cubs to let ownership off the hook for refusing to spend like they could. Agree and disagree, in a vacuum I agree if it’s only for a year or 2 but looking at is as a potential long-term offender thing (Bryce next year plus arb raises, extensions, etc) I get being cautious to stay under the year before you plan on having multiple years going over coming up.
  19. Agree with most of this though I’d think small market teams would have major push back on shortening control. Another big thing that should be changed is tying draft position to spending, teams should be able to spend what they want and the current set up really incentivized losing since finishing a few spots lower increases spending ability rather significantly
  20. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/02/agent-brodie-von-wagenen-speaks-out-on-stagnant-free-agent-market.html Cubs among these? 21. Classy organization retiring a number of a drunk driving murderer and now a guy who was part of a group that broke a dudes back
  22. Martinez has such a level head in his shoulders, can’t be true
  23. Can’t say I ever remember hearing anything about that
  24. I don’t think it’s trying to be cute, efficient and smart, yes. I too wish they would say horsefeathers it and go to 6/150 or whatever it takes but also get why they likely haven’t. Theo knows he has him by the balls right now if he wants to go to a big market and a WS contender and likely has the near best offer out to him and it’s much closer to Theo’s terms than whatever terms Yu/Agent has dreamed up given the NY/LA market conditions. It’s an equally baller move to just sit back like a boss to not budge off the 4/90 (or whatever lowish offer we have out there) knowing it likely can’t be beat at the moment.
