  1. Schwarbs sure loves his America shorts. I saw a picture of Duensing and Lester playing catch on twitter earlier and they both had them on too. Wonder if they already had a themed day?
  2. I'm guessing most of these guys will get major league deals but if they just don't have a market for that I'd be interested in any of the following for minor league deals (with a date during the year they need to be called up by or else they can become a FA) or invite deals that aren't guaranteed if they don't make the team out of ST. Michael Saunders, Jarrod Dyson, Seth Smith, John Jaso, Cameron Maybin, Chris Young, Erick Aybar, and Bud Norris. Another final move I wouldn't mind is trading Monty and signing Liriano to a 1 year deal for like $5 mil as the swing guy. I'm guessing they'll have a good talk, if they haven't already, with Monty and explain to him how he has an important role/will get starts and all will be fine but if he's going to be a problem and wants to start (he doesn't have much power to do anything) I wouldn't mind trading him for a minor league pitching prospect. The Angels could use a cheap SP option and something like Jamie Barria or Chris Rodriguez could be intriguing or see if the Twins or Orioles have interest for a similar prospect.
  3. It's only been a day and a half since he signed, plus today was a Sunday so a lot of teams might not have had everyone around to do deals. I think we'll see a good chunk of the pitchers sign this week and Boras is doing that thing where he circumvents FO's and goes directly to owners to deal with for JD Martinez and once he goes a lot of the position guys will go soon too.
  4. Heyman wrote about it. He's definitely the guy that supposedly said he'd be willing to wait into the season Heyman? This is probably Boras trying to shut down the "What's wrong with Jake that the Cubs weren't even interested" story line Forgot about the source of this too. It absolutely could be Boras using Heyman to spread fake news, Heyman was called out last week for reporting something on JD Martinez having a comparable deal from the D'backs that the Red Sox had offered and was shot down as being a Boras mouthpiece and that not being true.
  5. I don't know what it is under the current rules but I want to say under the old roles when there could be tiered A/B compensation it was sometime in June (probably right around draft time) the draft pick compensation went away for signing a guy. I remember a guy back then holding out/nobody offering him anything until that point. It wasn't a guy as good as Jake and was like a relief pitcher or fringe infield starter I want to say. I could just be imagining all this but something like that sticks out in my mind.
  6. Yeah I doubt it was the same deal as well and agree no way would he have turned it down. It was probably a similar structure but only like 4/80-90 guaranteed with incentives to bump it up another ~$20 million and/or team/vesting options for additional years plus an opt out but doubt it was the same deal from a guaranteed money/years standpoint.
  7. Where did you see this? Interested to read the article. Wouldn’t be surprised if Jake waits in to Spring at this point and wait for an injury
  8. I’m thinking of heading down for the opening series. Anyone have experience going to the new Marlins stadium? Recommendations on hotels around the stadium, if any? Will I need to rent a car or would you recommend it? I need to plan something to get out of this cold and am thinking of using the opening series for a long weekend. I have a flight voucher on Delta from a horsefeathers up they had over the summer on one of my flights so my flight will be free and figure outside of opening day tickets will be cheap and readily available.
  9. I apologize and noted
  10. The Brewers Insider guy has moved to twitter after a pretty fun blowup to read on their board but lol.... https://twitter.com/high_heat_19/status/962566720752967680
  11. Of course that human troll tries to put a bad spin on this
  12. Passan tweeted that the opt out is after year 2
  13. Does seem a little light, but I expect this year to be much like 2016 where the regular season is essentially semantics and we’ll be able to limit innings and skip starts/go 6-man rotation the last month+ Yeah, I hope that is the case. What is jarring is that they have him projected for more losses than wins. That's silly. Was this proj made without knowledge of what team he was playing on? Who cares about horsefeathering pitcher wins let alone predicting/projecting them
  14. Don’t really care what the order is as long as Lester/Q don’t go back to back since they are most similar and let Lester be the opening day starter as the vet. This rotation is gonna kick ass.
  15. I'm pretty sure it is, but of course I can't find the details right now. It’s not. It’s the total potential guaranteed amount divided by potential guaranteed years. If incentives/bonuses are hit in a given year it will be adjusted accordingly for that year. The opt outs and how he actual money is paid out don’t matter.
  16. fix'd I hope he will put up more than 160 innings. Does seem a little light, but I expect this year to be much like 2016 where the regular season is essentially semantics and we’ll be able to limit innings and skip starts/go 6-man rotation the last month+
  17. That would mean for luxury tax calculations for the next two years, it would put the Cubs at $30M each year. Unless I'm mistaken, LT is calculated as the AAV of each segment until an opt-out. So I don't think the Cubs want to give him $30M a year for the first two, as that would put them over the cap. But it might be AAV of $25M guaranteed for 2 or 3 years, before it drops significantly. I don’t think that’s how it works at all
  18. Who’s gonna break the news to Seal Boy he has to give up his number and loses his BFF?
  19. I’m fine with an opt out after 2 years, would’ve hoped it was 3 but whatever. I wonder what the actual cash outlay is in the deal, wouldn’t be surprised if he’s getting around $60 million the first 2 years.
  20. I trust Theo so by the time to research that he was tipping and it’s fixable. I too am gonna miss Jake, Yu is better and I take him over Jake ever time but hope Jake goes to a non-Brewer team like the Twins or Angels or whatever so I don’t need to root against him. If Yu wasn’t tipping then we should somehow be worried about our offense, because he dominated it. It seemed like something only the Astros knew about (even going back to his Ranger days), still we should've picked up on it but maybe he wasn't doing it until the WS? Also maybe he just pitched some real shitty games in the WS and wasn't tipping? He also carried a no-hitter through 5 innings vs the D'Backs in the DS.

  22. He really full assed this offseason
  23. First and only guy I’ve seen say this, so it’s probably not true
  24. Darvish has to bump us to the best team in MLB by ZiPS, right?
