  1. Keep losing. Picking as high as 5 is in play with H2Hs left with so many teams ahead of us in the fecal league standings and us just being a shitty team.
  2. Jake is important for tank purposes, just got to a 6-man/put Adbert on extra days rest with the impending innings limit. But yeah, Steele needs to be up and starting to see if he actually may be a potential starter moving forward or just a nice pen arm.
  3. Keep losing to teams that have a few more losses than you, idiots. Games vs the Rockies, Royals, Twins and Marlins this month. Lose them all. We most likely end up picking 8-11 but a top 5-7 pick is in play if we really horsefeathering suck and lose to the teams ahead of us in the H2Hs. The top 4 picks seem set, in some order, with Arizona, Baltimore, Texas and Pittsburgh.
  4. Think that’s a good comp, but different era. Modern day comp is probably David Fletcher, which is a plenty useful guy. Just, again, don’t like using the Kimbrel capital to acquire that.
  5. Rebuilds are hard and prospects mostly fail
  6. He has ~300 career major league PAs. There would be nothing career altering/massive regression if he settles in as a ~.270 hitter. He’s a slap/singles hitter with not great speed or power. Hell, last time he had 200+ PAs at any level, A+ in 2019, he slashed .270/.340/.370. he hit .309/.371.398 overall in the minors with 51 walks and 21 k. i think you're underestimating just how good he is at that specific skill set. saying "if he hits .270, he's going to suck" just doesn't make sense to me. every baseball player could start sucking at any given time, especially young players with limited experience. I get all that and hope I’m wrong. Just think he ultimately and mostly sucks and is just some slappy/contact guy who needs to hit a ton of singles to be worth anything. And even if he does that he doesn’t bring much value for what Kimbrel should’ve returned. Not saying we couldn’t use a contact bat like him, just don’t like using Kimbrel to get it.
  7. Good tank loss, go get swept now losers
  8. And last year with a .360 BABIP he was playing at like a .6 win pace. Hope I’m wrong, but just don’t see much upside here and think it wasn’t the proper use of Kimbrel as an asset to get a guy like this. The contact/batted ball profile seems pretty bad and he’s not too fast. I just don’t see how he sustains being like a .310+ hitter. And even if he regresses to like a .270 hitter there is little value. that would be a massive, career altering regression, so of course he'd then suck He has ~300 career major league PAs. 9. 4 WAR pace with only a .324 babip this year. And last year with a .360 BABIP he was playing at like a .6 win pace. 10. Madrigal horsefeathering sucks and this trade sucks. His batting average is all empty calories and he needs to make contact and BABIP at crazy levels to be worth anything. And he blew his hamstring out already and is done for the year, which certainly should be good for a slappy/defense first type.
  11. I think players are going to have to grapple with the new "not getting paid for past production" reality. The moral here is don't give a discount when signing a contract in your 20s. Cubs could have done right by him and given him a raise via a rework/extension a few years ago, but you can't trust any ownership to do the right thing. Giving him a payday now would just be stupid. Rizzo, Bryant and Baez all missed on this new trend of buying out arb years for big early-career paydays Rizzo did, he didn’t get the mega deal because he was a 1B and had a slow start to his career and had cancer. But he extended for like $70+ mil when he wasn’t really established. He was never getting the Tatis type mega deal. He obviously left money on the table with where his career has gone but think it was a good deal for both parties and it paid off, he has more than enough money for lifetimes and the Cubs got a discount for committing to an unproven guy.
  12. Abrams, Campusano & Hassell Gore might be broken. Hassell is the only guy I’m really that interested in, in the rumored Hosmer deal. Abrams, Campusano and Gore all have some warts for the risk of taking on Hosmer/giving up KB/Kimbrel or whatever as well.
  13. Solid return for a rental and what Rizzo has been strictly on the field, but horsefeathers this organization. Rizzo should’ve been a Cub for life, he wasn’t going to cost a ton to keep and meant a ton to the org.
  14. Manfred you crazy bastard, you’ve done it again
  15. Hopefully this is the start of them trying to do opener stuff until they make some sort of trade(s). They have enough options to have 1-2 spots in the rotation just let 1-2 guys go all out for 2-4 innings.
  16. Using Nance there was dumb, let Maples and Brothers clean up the game if they’re gonna be around here down 4 unless the offense does something later.
  17. Ones I saw mentioned were: Alzolay Baez Bryant Contreras Happ Hendricks Hoerner Kimbrel Would’ve lost money on that bet. His shot coincided with his bad outing/blown save in Pittsburgh iirc and his spin and stuff was down.
  18. You can give Heyward and the whole org credit for following strict protocols/testing/etc last year before there was a vaccine and all we had was trying to follow strict rules and they excelled at that with no player positive tests. That’s over now with a vaccine, which now we can give them horsefeathers for not getting it and especially throwing fans under the bus to distract from their own decisions. Both things can be true, good job by them last year and they deserve a lot of credit and now terrible by job by them with the current decisions/messaging.
  19. Wade Davis was pretty lock down. Yeah Davis was solid in 2017, Morrow was one of the best RPs in the 2018 first half, Chapman was also awesome. Hector broke FIP for a while in 2015 or 16 when he ran a negative FIP, iirc, lol. Strop was always solid too.
  20. Keep winning and be buyers, you cowards
  21. I think part of the reason no move has been made is because of where the 40-man is at with all the other injuries. Calling up an alt site guy, etc would require a 40-man move. There’s no healthy options with guys on the 40-man and we’ve already gone pretty deep with the Wisdom, Ortega, Alcantara call ups.
