  1. I’m good moving Happ for the right return and probably prefer that vs paying him long term just because the profile is so volatile. If they move him I’d look to at a post hype guy like Adell who the Angels just sent down + and other thing or two vs some lower level/lotto ticket types. As for contention window, there clearly should be a path to “contend” by next year and 2024. Not WS favs or anything but certainly a playoff team. The division sucks (Brewers aren’t special, Cardinals are aging and expensive, Pirates and Reds, well yeah), expanded WC, having capital (money + prospects) to keep adding, etc. Have a few prospects or trades break the right way and spend at least enough, maybe not as much as they should, and crafting a mid 80 win WC team isn’t hard the next two years or even steal a division.
  2. Looks like that is going to be the case. About Damn time. This spring has been miserable.
  3. That’s the best Wick has looked since before the injury I think
  4. The sub 90s in that last inning certainly is worrisome, but isn’t he typically low 90s and can pop some velo here and there but is more a command/location guy?
  5. He for sure does. One of the only issues, which isn’t really one but a rule, is that you have to trade contracts for contracts within a certain % based on your cap spot. Like you can’t trade a $30 mil contract for a $5 mil contract. So he’d have to be traded for someone already making good money. And those guys are always out there with some stuff added either way, who that is idk currently. But there certainly will be some new disgruntled star this summer who wants out that Derozan + some picks would net. I don’t know if I was thinking ‘disgruntled star’ as much as ‘picks from some team who sees demar as their first option and then those picks turn into very valuable assets when demar regresses or gets hurt because he’s old’. But not sure how you do that with those contract rules. If that’s the route you’re thinking/wanting, compiling picks in the NBA always seems risky to me, but like you could flip him to Charlotte for Gordon Heyward (expiring contract I believe) and grab a bunch of picks or some similar guy making money who sucks who is expiring (Westbrook, but lakers have no picks to trade for like 5 years). But you get the idea.
  6. He’s a streaky/volatile player who always seems to put good stretches together even if the underlying numbers aren’t great indicators and he also has struggled on surface numbers when underlying stuff says he should be better. Idk what to think. Ride the hot hand I guess and there’s plenty of ABs for him on this roster to see if he sustains it.

  8. Eh, he’s only taking ABs and PT away from Heyward and maybe some Happ. It’s not like he’s blocking Davis or Suzuki or anything. He’s only 27 and was good in AAA last year, see if he’s maybe a thing. He’s not taking time away from guys who are on the next good cubs teams. He might be a legit good defender in CF too.
  9. Holy horsefeathers this strike zone
  10. With how Willson has worn down in years past I honestly wish we would DH him more to try and keep him fresher. Especially with Gomes being an overqualified backup and capable of a starter load.
  11. He doesn’t hit the ball hard, is not overly fast, doesn’t hit for power or take walks. Him turning in to a pumpkin wouldn’t be the craziest thing with his profile. His batting average skill doesn’t seem like a true skill, it’s under 400 career MLB PAs. I think he sucks though since pre-trade and never was a fan. All I’m saying is that he has enough of a profile to give him more than 3 weeks before giving up on him especially after missing so much time with injury Idk how much forgiveness he should be given with the profile. What exactly is his profile? Like he’s a 5’7” slappy dude with no other talent, he’s likely bad and was a terrible trade target.
  12. Madrigal is annoying tf out of me right now but not ready to call him a waste of an opportunity yet. It's been 3 weeks after missing the last ~4 months of last year. He's been a .300+ hitter literally every single season in college, the minors and pros, so hitting .220 this year would seem like a huge outlier. Hate using BA here but given the consistency over a 6 year period I'm guessing it is a bit immune to luck. If he can resume hitting .300 he will at least be serviceable as a player. 13. Villar would be a below average defender on a beer league softball team
  14. Harris and Curry (plays whatever picks it requires) have to get them close to being able to trade for him with the contract match stuff and give Kyrie and him and extension
  15. Quintana is gonna be worth more WAR in his time with the Cubs than Eloy will in his entire career.
  16. Ross continues to be a pretty bad manager. Bring back Mark Prior for manager.
  17. Villar and Heyward horsefeathering suck and don’t belong on MLB teams
  18. Good thing is his extension kicks in this year and he’s owed like $200 mil over the next 7 years.
  19. That’s a really good trade even if Newcomb sucks
