  1. He handles RHP fine and isn’t a terrible target. Didn’t also realize Jed Lowrie is a FA too. Sign Moran and him for like $5 mil combined and we at least have some LHH IF/DH options and Wisdom/Frank/2B insurance. Also Asdrubal would be an okay cheap LHH option for 1B/DH and maybe some limited 3B.
  2. With adding Schwarbs the Phillies are now only ~$8 mil below the LT, wonder if we could buy a prospect taking Gregorious back. He helps our need for a LHH IF.
  3. I think I’d prefer Michael Pineda to Greinke if we are targeting another RHSP that doesn’t throw too hard.
  4. The question is, why did they all decline their offers and according to Jed in some cases even decline to counter? I can understand if it was one player but all 3 of them? And likely Willson too? Maybe there was some personal/locker room stuff going on they didn’t all want to stay and play together? Plus after the WS I’m sure the players and agents had a slight sense of more worth then comparable players? Like Rizzo wanted Goldschmidt money, iirc, when an extension was discussed but he’s clearly more in the Moustakas/Castellanos range like the alleged extension offer was. KB, who has all the right to be pissed about service time, still wanted the mega deal in the Machado/Harper range and really probably is more worth something in a Heyward range type deal as a top end.
  5. When Martin was available during a recent deadline I remember him being a popular target. Think there’s some underlying spin or movement stuff that some teams/sequencing can unlock some stuff/extend his career. I know he’s been plenty successful as is but the lab might be able to maximize things.
  6. He’s done some weird social stuff in the past with posts and what not, so who knows. But idk if he’s ever taken the Cubs off his bios or whatever. https://twitter.com/runningflannel/status/1503696718692560900?s=21
  7. Bringing back Almora, hopefully
  8. Dumbest rule in sports this isn’t a free drop/relief and you have to play out of a divot/ball mark in the fairway.
  9. The Reds and Pirates are going to suck, the Brewers and Cardinals aren’t anything special. We should spend some money and resources to try and win.
  10. 18, Myers has the weird deal where his AAV is a ton lower then the actual money paid out over the life of his remaining deal (his AAV is something like 14 but he’s owed like 22 a year next two years).
  11. I forgot Jorge was a FA. We need to bring our beautiful dong Adonis home with the DH.
  12. Correa, 1 of Schwarbs or Conforto and a LHH 1B/3B option to fill out the offense please.
  13. Go sign Correa now
  14. It sounds like they were 8-0 against. No idea if their votes can be split or it’s all or nothing with 8 for or against. But all 8 votes, however derived, seem to be against.
  15. Seems like it is kinda the union execs job to always be against it for perception. So they can always say they didn’t get as good a deal, should’ve held out for more, owners screwed us, etc. let the players 2/3rds carry it.
  16. Since it seems we are close to a deal. If MLB/MLBPA was smart they’d have like 20+ FA deals ready to announce NBA style right after they announce the new CBA tonight or tomorrow and back to business/positive PR.
  17. Inducted in to the Golf HOF tonight. He’s the GOAT of all sports.
  18. Guy who should be in jail for securities fraud is a petty little horsefeathers and only self interested, shocking.
  19. They choose him to break/weaken the union. He was among their top lawyers before they made him commissioner. He's doing his job. Goodell is a shill for the NFL owners, yet he avoided a labor stoppage Having a firm salary cap/revenue sharing set up certainly helps that. Also knowing they only have a 16-17 game season puts more pressure to get things done.
  20. That succinctly sums up the small market mentality Yup. Can’t have it both ways of being subsidized with draft picks, IFA, revenue sharing as a “small market” team and then also dictate how the teams that actually spend go about business. Don’t want teams to outspend you, first off don’t own a horsefeathering team, you have money and secondly if they spend less you should get less handouts too you [expletive]
  21. horsefeathers “small markets”
  22. Commissioners largely are puppets and carrying out the wishes of owners, I really don’t know how much power they truly have. This is all on owners, imo. Not defending Manfred by any means but it’s not like he has autonomy to make a deal, the owners suck and he’s just a face/extension of them and they clearly don’t want to cut a deal outside of their extreme terms.
