  1. I get it’s more buying pitching but I don’t get how Hosmer fits on the Mets. Obviously have Alonso at 1B and then have a bunch of single position/DH types in Cano, Escobar, Davis, Canha as well.
  2. Really does seem like there could be three way potential. Smith-Paddack swap for Mets-Padres, Hosmer (with us paying all or majority of salary) to us + prospects and us sending out something small like a Mills, Alcantara or Rivas or something or maybe even make it bigger and send Happ or something out and get Profar or McNeil back.
  3. That trade makes no sense for the Mets, imo, even if they need pitching. Smith can play some OF at least. Hosmer is 1B/DH only and so is Alonso and then they got Cano, Davis, Canha, McNeil who all really can’t play a lot of (if any) positions positively and probably should be DH’s.
  4. He only has ~75 IP since 2019. I wonder what his IP limit/target is this year. If he’s a full time starter you’d think he’d be shut down by the deadline or so. Guessing they use him this year like Dodgers/Brewers have used Peralta/Woodruff/Burnes/Suter/May/Gonsolin/Urias in the past to bring along as a opener/piggy back guy, multi inning RP, or spot starter to preserve innings and allow him to pitch most of the year and it doesn’t prevent him from being a SP moving forward as he builds innings.
  5. When I read the tweet that’s exactly what I thought too, I think Prior had the same thing.
  6. And there’s a Villar TOOTBLAN
  7. That change up by Smyly today was pretty nasty. He looked pretty solid. I think I’d put him in the rotation to start the year as of today, or at least use with an opener type for 3-5 innings/2 times through the order.
  8. He’s also a pitcher and playing the service time game with them isn’t always the wisest thing with the attrition rate. Use the bullets while you can vs position players being safer bets to last/age better and it’s worth it to wait 30-45 games or whatever to call them up.
  9. Probably not, barring an injury since he has options. I’d think Hermosillo makes it over him since he doesn’t have any. I’d like to see him make it and given a chance at 1B/DH tho. Hermosillo shouldn’t stand in the way of him making it
  10. I can't differentiate between half those names so I don't have a preference, but why is that too many? Aren't they expanding rosters to 28? 14 pitchers is more than enough. If your entire position player identity is about versatility over ability you might as well use 14. Pretty sure Ross and/or Jed said they’ll break camp with 15 pitchers.
  11. I really hope Madrigal isn’t our lead off hitter this year. Seems like a waste of contact ability at least for 1 AB a game. He should be like 5th or 6th I feel behind guys and hitting with guys on base more. I know he has a career .360ish OBP but it’s largely BA driven.
  12. Davis has under 70 PAs at AAA and while he did have a perfectly fine 22% K rate there… when he got sustained ABs at AA he was at 30% K rate. There probably is some learning and work to do there, can you learn to K less at AAA before coming to MLB or does he have to be thrown in the fire at the MLB level, idk. But as has been mentioned this isn’t quite a KB situation and see how he still needs so refinement, maybe AAA won’t do that and he needs to be in MLB to learn. But I’m fine keeping him down until May or June or so.
  13. They really should just break camp with him. Especially with a 15-man pitching staff. He seems ready, don’t waste any bullets down in Iowa. He’s a RP only, possibly a very high leverage one. If he was a starter or even multi inning guy I’d get maybe sending him down to start the year to refine a thing or two but he seems mostly like a finished product.
  14. All the gameplay rule changes(shift restrictions, pitch clock, etc) agreed in the CBA negotiations are set to happen next year so there's time to thoughtfully implement them. The exception is the universal DH, which does start this year. And I think MLB has complete discretion to implement or not them next year, they just have to give a 45 days notice.
  15. D’backs extend Marte. Thought he would’ve been a good trade target for us for CF going back to last year even.
  16. He should start the year in the MLB pen, imo
  17. Their guard play sucked and their big guys couldn’t get a rebound even though they consistently had the 2 tallest guys on the court.
  18. I’d be fine with ties after 13 or so innings using the old extra innings rules. Or at least use ties in NL vs AL games and out of division games and go until there’s a winner in division games so everyone has their H2H tie breaker stuff.
  19. I haven’t seen one but has there been any articles/studies that the runner on 2B rule has shortened games (because that seems to be the goal)?
  20. That slider/cutter has some bite, damn
  21. It seems like a mix of Yellich, Joc, Bellinger and Happ. Taller stance and a little open, arms high and kinda lanky and the finish kinda falling towards 1B dugout.
  22. That’s good, we certainly can use the extra two spots to churn through some guys and figure some things out if dudes are real or not from last year. Also helps with sorting out the bullpen/pitching. And with no pitcher restrictions we probably should be looking at doing some opener/piggy back stuff with 1-2 rotation spots.
