  1. Nah, an 8 event league that’s only 54 holes with shotgun starts horsefeathering sucks. Rahm’s answer at the US Open last week nailed it. Yes the PGA isn’t perfect and needs fixes with how they broadcast events and other things, but it’s the place to be if you’re the best in the world and the top guys make plenty of money.
  2. Zobrist hit .308 in 2018 and KB and Jay both had like .296 season(s). Rizzo had two low-mid .290 seasons too. Which yeah not .300+ but that’s basically a rounding error and like what,~12 more hits over the course of the year?
  3. PGA responds by basically copying LIV for an 8 series event with similar purses and structure for the events the Saudi’s are offering. PGA can’t offer the 8-9 figure contracts because they don’t have the money and their structure doesn’t allow it, but this is a pretty big step to funnel more money to the big guys and keep guys from jumping. Also sounds like they’re gonna try and keep LIV events from getting OWGR points which will tank the guys world rankings playing there and won’t qualify them for PGA events and majors (unless exempt).
  4. He came off the IL like 2-3 weeks ago and he missed all that time in 2018 or 2019 with the concussion he got trying to rob Fowler’s walk off dong vs us when he actually was hitting well.
  5. Not very high? Trout, Pujols, A-Rod amongst a lot of other names some mentioned already. Then you got Soto on his way and even Harper is only like 13 WAR behind Ichiro and has half his career PAs and the WAR is roughly 57 vs 44. His peak WAR single season was 7.1. Sure if he was over earlier he’d have more counting value and stats. I loved him as a player and he’s truly historic. But think there’s a lot of guys better in peak years and overall value/WAR. If the historical significance factors in he’s much higher for me, but if just peak performance/WAR I think there’s a good amount of guys higher than him. Imo. And yeah he should be in the HOF.
  6. He’s close to 31 years old, cutting down his K%, 10-15% doesn’t seem like anything remotely possible
  7. If a team/manager really wanted to just punt a game like the Dodgers last night with this rule, what would stop them from leaving a pitcher in put intentionally walking 4 straight guys to go down 6 and then bring in the position player to pitch?
  8. What’s Amaya’s expected return date from TJS? I think I saw he’s at least hitting now. That injury really fucked up the long term catching outlook and Willy trade calculus.
  9. First Saudi backed league event is next week and they announced the field. DJ is the big get/surprise, allegedly got 9 figures guaranteed to go to the league, rest of the guys aren’t surprises really other than Gooch I’d say (all the other guys are old or not PGA staples and taking the money, Gooch was young and up and coming). Pretty shitty field. Hopefully the PGA holds strong and bans them all.
  10. The Friday off day thing is so dumb, I think it started either last year or the COVID year and they just kept doing it. Idk if it’s being done partially due to the lockout and lost 2 weeks this year with scheduling. But hopefully it goes away.
  11. I can’t find the tweet(s) but his chase rates are pretty good and he’s not just hacking and he’s also had some of the most balls called for strikes of any player in the league. We knew there was going to be an adjustment and him likely sucking for some sort of stretch but he’s been a little unlucky with some of the ball/strike stuff and the K% is a little over inflated.
  12. Sign and trade. AD? I don't know... I think the Lakers would want LaVine without having to give up AD in a sign-and-trade. The Bulls would probably try to move Vucevic + additional pieces to get AD and then re-sign LaVine to form a big 3 of DeRozan, LaVine and AD (this trio would be super talented but also pretty scary in terms of health/availability). Also, you don't have to be a basketball savant to know a Russell Westbrook/Zach LaVine backcourt wouldn't work. That's why I said their #1 priority is figuring out a way to dump Westbrook on some team. It very well might be an impossible task this offseason because the Westbrook experiment seems to fail everywhere he goes. The Lakers and their fans can dream I guess. Yeah I think Russ is pretty much impossible to move, he makes like $47 mil this year and they have no firsts forever to sweeten the deal if there was something out there. I’m sure Lakers fans think they can trade him though for like Jimmy Butler or something. Most likely outcome is they cut him/buy him out or he just gets the Deng treatment when he signed that big deal in LA and they just pay him and he never plays.
  13. Eh, that’s a weird ball to play with the hop and would’ve been really hard to charge. The right read was to probably lay back and play the big hop and use the arm to get the runner by a few steps. If he charges that, even on a fast/quick read that might jump over the glove and if he gets it you have a weird running/falling throw. It wasn’t some standard grounder that was gonna stay down you can charge on. Idk
  14. White Sox are now below .500 with a -30 RD. But rebuilds, roster/dynasty building and sustained success is easy I was told by their idiot fans and narratives around them.
  15. Send them literal entire system, Jed.
  16. He looks like he’s 15-20 pounds overweight. He was never a super in shape dude but he looks bigger than normal.
  17. Sutcliffe is annoying, but I can take him in small doses. If it's just the San Diego series and then JD comes back, I can live with that. Yeah same here pretty much, he also seems better in a 3 man booth with JD and Boog if they’re gonna insist on doing those. When it’s just him and Boog he talks too much, having JD tones him down, Sut also seems fine in the studio stuff the little I’ve seen.
  18. You said yourself that that team had the pieces to trade for Arrieta, Strop, Fowler, Hendricks, Russell, Edwards, Grimm, etc. Where are the tradable pieces on this team? We are miles behind the situation in 2012 and we don't have Theo's competence to save us. Pieces traded for these players were Scott Feldman, Steve Clevenger, Luis Valbuena, Jeff Samardzija, Jason Hammel (not on 2012 Cubs), and Ryan Dempster. This years Cubs team could theoretically trade Hendricks, Smyly, Miley, Robertson, Givens, Coldplay dude, Contreras, Happ, Villar and Frazier. Not saying they would trade all of them or that they would all get as much value as they got from the guys mentioned in 2012 (FO had a ridiculously high hit rate on trades), but they definitely have enough tradeable pieces on the team. And, ya know, they traded players all better than anyone traded mentioned above last year and got some really highly regarded prospects. It’s not like this year is the first year they’re trying to trade/flip stuff.
  19. What’s even MLB’s Covid protocol now? Are they still testing daily or weekly or something? Or do you only get tested if you show symptoms/feel sick? And if you test positive what’s protocol to come back? Is there a mandated time off or like if Stroman feels fine and tests negative tomorrow can he pitch like Tuesday?
  20. Another interesting thing to maybe do would be to trade Happ and sign Conforto after the deadline passes that no draft pick is lost. Add whatever for Happ to make the team better and deploy the money for an even better player.
