  1. If we are going to target a Yankee OF, why not Swisher? Keep Kosuke in CF and move Swisher to RF. Sure the defense wouldn't be as good, but Swisher's bat would be a nice addition to our lineup. It was rumored earlier in the offseason that they Yankees wanted to move him IIRC. He's had a OPS over .830 3 of the last 4 years playing in the AL.
  2. Who the [expletive] would be waiting outside the Pirates locker room at Wrigley wanting a Matt [expletive] Capps autograph? When players are on the road they probably don't acknowledge anyone when leaving the locker room, unless they have people they know are waiting for them or someone approaches them.
  3. Trachsel in 07 was honestly one of the worst Cubs pitchers I have ever seen, I don't think Silva will be quite that bad, but it could be close.
  4. In one of the better pitching parks to boot. With a good 3/4 of an IF defense. Holy God. I can't possibly hate this any more than I do right now. And 2 really good OF defenders in Gutierrez and Ichiro
  5. I guess the only "good" thing that could possibly come out of this is now Hendry has a little more money and will use it for a half way decent player like Orlando Hudson, Felipe Lopez, or take a flyer (for a relatively low price and years) on a pitcher like Sheets, Bedard, or Duchscherer. But he will probably end up doubling Byrd's contract and/or sign Pods.
  6. http://a.espncdn.com/photo/2009/0824/mlb_g_hendry_400.jpg BOO THIS MAN!!!!!! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
  7. We are virtually to the point where we just really need to keep Milton [expletive] Bradley. Based upon the potential FA upgrades over Milton at this point. The projected/assumed trades of him make neither financial sense nor do they make sense to make the Cubs a better team. Considering we have spent no money this offseason, sans Mr. Grabow, and the fact that we are going to have to eat a major portion of Milton's contract when/if we trade him. Just put that money toward a major PR/Marketing campaign in an effort to keep Milton in Chicago. He had a .775 OPS last year in an extremely "down" year and I will personally guarantee right now that his "down" year in Chicago out produces whatever [expletive] the Cubs throw out in RF/CF (depending where Kosuke ends up) that replaces him.
  8. I really want it out, but doubt it happens. Union will never agree to it. But I could see Selig pushing this as his last big issue before he steps down as commish.
  9. I already got my tent and chairs set up outside of Hohokam ready to boo the minute he shows up to camp, I advise Cubs fans everywhere to follow suit.
  10. They're not stupid. Holliday's signing won't affect signing Pujols one bit. Yeah but it will be nice to know that they will have nearly $40 mil. a year committed to Holliday and Pujols for roughly the next decade once they resign Pujols.
  11. I don't see why the Phillies included Lee if they got no pieces being sent to the Jays. If it's a money thing look to trade Blanton and keep Lee.
  12. What about Randy Winn? Keep Kosuke in CF, and Winn in RF. Not ideal, or anywhere close to my number #1 offseason option but he wouldn't be a horrible idea.
  13. 2 years for $15.5. Glad Hendry passed/didn't get into a bidding war.
  14. Boston is in serious talks with Cameron per MLBTR. Not that he is a make or break offseason guy, but if he signs elsewhere I fear Hendry is going to overpay for Byrd or bring in a [expletive] player like Podsednik.
  15. I thought that fell through. It's taking a while to go through both guys medical reports. First the Rangers checked out Lowell's hip and the Rangers thought that was fine, now they seem focused on his thumb and that seems to be holding things up a bit and the Red Sox are checking out Ramirez and there are some red flag(s) regarding his health. Could be posturing by either side regarding the exchange of more/less money.
  16. He'll be rewarded when he goes top 3 and gets a bigger contract than anyone else who was nominated.
  17. I am interested in Kelly Johnson (good platoon option for Baker/can back-up OF positions as well) Wang (Sinkerballer is always good for Wrigley, probably benefit him to move to NL) Church Arredondo (if we can get him cheap and for 2 years to see if he can come back next year) Gomes (Backup 4th OF, provide a good RH bench bat) Atkins (interested if price is right, but someone will give him a decent deal IMO, numbers are bad away from Coors) Fangraphs take on Johnson, he BB more in 09 than 08 and K'd less, but his BABIP was .100 points lower.
  18. I know he's non-tendered now, but why exactly would the Braves have taken on Burrell's contract? Johnson would probably make around $3.5 mil in arbitration this year, Burrell has $9 left. So the difference in losing KJ and bringing in Burrell isn't all that big considering that they will probably bring in a FA bat for at least the added difference between the two contracts ($5.5-7 mil).
  19. Don't need to worry about a trade anymore, he was non-tendered.
  20. An average 2B in return for giving away an above average OF AND 5-6 million? It's not ideal, but it's something...
  21. Was just going to post this. I think Hendry needs to take a serious run at him, at the very lest he provides a bench bat he was played LF in the past so he is somewhat versatile. I wouldn't be opposed to a Baker/Johnson platoon at 2B to start the year and go from there. With the Braves wanting an OF bat what if we try this 3-way trade Cubs get: Kelly Johnson Rays get: Milton +$5-6 mil. Braves get: Burrell
  22. Levine had some tidbits on the Cubs - Hendry apparently talked to Ben Sheets agent - Also had conversation with Cameron's agent - Putz has already worked out for the Cubs and the Cubs will watch him again on Friday http://espn.go.com/chicago/columns/blog/_/post/4730140/name/levine
  23. What about is the equivalent talent level to the DWL? AA? AAA? AAAA type players?
  24. Where is Lowell going to play on the Rangers? DH? They moved Young to 3B last year to make room for Andrus, maybe Lowell could switch to 1B?
  25. The common cubs fan thinks Ryne Sandberg should be the manager of the cubs after Piniella's contract runs out. And thinks the reason the cubs stunk last year was losing Mark Derosa they also think organizational chaff like Greenberg and Fuld don't get a fair shot with this team. The common Cubs fan sucks and I hate the common cubs fan. That is poetry to my ears :cray:
