  1. I wonder if Lee would waive his NTC to go to Detroit for a year? He could be part of a deal for Cabrera, it gives the Tigers a cheaper option at 1B and he is a FA after next year and likely to be a type A so they would also net a draft pick (potentially).
  2. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?columnist=stark_jayson&page=rumblings091119&campaign=rss&source=MLBHeadlines
  3. Did we have to add Diamond to the 40-man in order to protect him from the Rule 5? I thought we put him on waivers like 3 days after we initially signed him and he cleared, thus since he cleared waivers he doesn't need a 40-man spot right?
  4. Well at least he is keeping it in the best interest of the game to make the ASG count
  5. Can't wait for the Bradley trade to go down then the 4/48 deal we hand out to Figgins, this message board might literally blow up once the offseason is done.
  6. I think we are missing the big picture here. Did he get a full NTC and most of his contract deferred?
  7. Haven't seen any other confirmation of this report, but it could say something that the Rangers are letting Byrd walk. Presumably to clear and OF/DH spot for Bradley.
  8. you misread something. next year will be the last year of his contract and he'll make 12m His signing bonus is payable from 2011-2015 totaling $15 million http://mlbcontracts.blogspot.com/2005/01/texas-rangers.html
  9. Nothing Kaplan says is worth much and I have no idea who wrote this, but Bradley and Miles for Milwood would be nice. We could do much, much worse than Milwood. Being able to get rid of Miles on top of it is a nice bonus. With the signing bonus Milwood is owed $27 mil. for next years contract+the bonus (which is payable 2011-2015). Having to get rid of Bradley and his production is going to suck, but we've already been over the fact that there isn't anyway Bradley is brought back and Milwood is a decent return.
  10. I don't think it's the fact that anyone expects Diamond to be the next Halladay, but look at the guys currently in competition for the #4/5 spot, Marshall/Gorzo/Samardzija. Diamond's performance in winter ball and previous ranking as a prospect should warrant him getting a chance to compete for a starting/bullpen spot in ST.
  11. Neither of them are terrible options and they both would help with the more versatile and speedy theme we seem to be going with this year, but my god those better not be the contracts we give out to those guys if we bring them on.
  12. I know he isn't an everyday guy, but could provide us with some lefty pop off the bench and spot start in all 3 OF spots. He posted a .800 OPS against RH last year. The Reds might not offer him arbitration, and I wouldn't mind him on a 1 year deal for around $500,000. http://cincinnati.reds.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20091117&content_id=7678216&vkey=news_cin&fext=.jsp&c_id=cin
  13. When do the organizational rankings come out? Should be interesting to see how far the Cubs move up in MLB, I think we have a shot to be in the 12-15 range.
  14. I am going to stretch it a little bit, and say Tony Thomas takes a step forward. He wasn't awful this year, but he wasn't great either. I think he improves and gives us good depth at MI in the minors. I am also going to go with Hak Ju Lee becoming a big time prospect and Diamond recovering from surgery and regaining some of the promise he had in the Texas organization.
  15. [expletive] you, Drew Brees.
  16. Really? He gives them a good offensive presence at C when they could use another offensive weapon. Plus it helps make Prince more available as they got 2 good catching prospects in the minors and could shift Doumit to 1B when one of them are ready and shop Prince for an elite pitcher.
  17. Got a last minute one here 3 of: Ronnie Brown vs. TB Laurence Maroney at IND Rashard Mendenhall vs. CIN Tim Hightower vs. SEA Reggie Bush at STL Leaning towards the first 3 however I think Bush could have a big game today. 2 of: Harvin vs. DET Colston at STL Driver vs. Dal leaning towards Driver and Colston, but Colston scares me a bit because the Saints are going to trounce the Rams and might only pass the ball for 2 quarters.
  18. Are these guys going to get time off after the AFL? Or will they be going to winter leagues? I personally think Vitters could use some time off to make sure his wrist is fully healed for next year and for Cashner after racking up a good amount of innings.
  19. But that won't stop this thread from reaching 100 pages. Is it to early to get a big bird reference in? Or the fact Granderson was heard signing "Go Cubs Go" in a Vegas bar?
  20. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/10357594 there is the link
  21. Brewers could have had Doumit from the Pirates for Hardy, but instead went with Gomez. I support this move, why would the Crew want a catcher who could mash, and hit 5 after Prince and provide protection as well as balance out their lineup a bit, when they could just re-sign Kendall for $3-5 mil.
  22. If we are emptying the farm, meaning Vitters and Castro getting traded, Hendry might as well include Jackson, Carpenter or Cashner and try to get Verlander involved.
  23. Already set the DVR. Not only is it the single greatest pitching performance of all time, but it may be the single greatest showcase of any single pitch ever. That being Kerry's slider/curve that he had working that day, still to this day the filthiest pitch I have ever seen.
  24. Thats sounds like an OK deal, as long as they dont mind throwing in Verlander. On a serious note, I like that Castro is known outside the Cubs circle and that other teams fans are seeing him as a legit prospect. Yeah I think that is the best thing that can come out of our annual, "trade" that falls through but takes the whole offseason to be resolved. Hopefully with another public, drawn out, trade through the media some of our prospects start to get hyped along with our system. I would think there is a strong chance we rank top 20, maybe even top 15 in farm systems this year.
