  1. be good at baseball? why are you acting like the cubs just let lincecum walk? Maybe because there is a good chance Marshall/Gorzo/Samardzija/Wells are going to be making 60% of our starts this year when you consider Lilly is going to miss the first monthish and there is probably a good chance Demp/Z will miss time with random injuries and Wells is no guarantee to be anywhere near as good as he was last year. And while Harden is no guarantee to stay healthy or perform like an ace every start over the season. Based on the last 1 1/2 years with us he is still good for 15-18 starts of absolutely dominating baseball and probably 6-8 starts of average to below average. For $10 or so million he would have been a wise investment IMO with a very questionable rotation in place, right now, for next year.
  2. No thanks on Pineiro last season numbers seem kinda like a fluke. Compared to what he was doing in previous seasons before. Thankfully I don't have to worry about the Cubs signing Pineiro. Because some teams probably gonna give him 7-8m per season for at least two or three years. The Cubs won't have the money for that type of contract(reason why they couldn't risk Harden coming back). Plus right now adding a starting pitcher doesn't seem on there top things to do. Of course if they get rid of enough of Bradley salary they could be looking for a cheap 5th starter option or a bargin rehab type guy. But there's no way they will be bidding on any top free agent pitchers. He's going to demand too much money and years for him to be a good signing for us IMO. I'd rather take a flier on 1-2 year deals on Bedard, Duschere, Sheets, or you know actually be a smart organization and bring back [expletive] Harden.
  3. It's about damn time politicians tackle issues that are truly important to American's everywhere! http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4727426
  4. Campbell should do decent this week, is Alex Smith available? He could be an alright option as he has been a pretty good hot streak. My sit start for the week is. Flacco v. DET (I was planning on playing him this week for the last couple weeks or so, but he was miserable against GB) Schaub v. SEA (Has an injured left shoulder and is questionable) I also have Matt Ryan but he might not play and I put in a waiver claim on Alex Smith v. ARI.
  5. When is the Rule 5 Draft? Any interesting guys available?
  6. It's certainly a very anit-Marlins move and goes completely against their philosophy.
  7. Yeah he'd be a solid bench bat and he shouldn't demand much as he probably wants to reestablish his value.
  8. Apparently the Rangers offered both Neftail Feliz and Justin Smoak for Josh Johnson and the Marlins said no. Someone in the Marlins FO must have been [expletive] high when that trade offer came through to turn it down. WOW. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/12/rangers-offered-smoak-feliz-for-johnson.html
  9. It is odd but maybe they know they can get something done and one of the moves they would likely make would be to sign O-Dog, but it would be foolish to do that before trading Castillo in case something would fall through with the Cubs plus it would take away some leverage in negotiations. I could see it being the Indians what about this? Cubs get: Wood and Castillo Indians get: Bradley Mets get: Jake Westbrook - Wood+Westbrook's remaining contracts are about equal to Bradley's remaining contract (assuming Wood's 2011 doesn't kick in) - Mets add pitching and Castillo's ($12 mil remaining for 10/11') and Westbrook's ($11 mil for 2010) contracts are just about equal The things holding this up maybe could be the Mets trying to get someone to take Perez, Indians trying to get someone to take Hafner, or maybe they are minor things like exchanging of money (based on these contracts being exchanged it would be a matter of less than $1 mil) or figuring who gets prospects and where they go.
  10. Maybe Ordonez from Detroit or Overbay from the Jays?
  11. the MARINERS shot it down??? that means hendry was clearly going to do it but the mariners didn't want to. RICKETTS FIRE THIS BUM NOW. Or someone who wasn't associated with Cubs/Mariners put the rumor out there and the Mariners were the first team to respond to debunk it.
  12. NO, NO, NO , NO. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: http://twitter.com/TBrownYahoo/status/6478052585
  13. 3-way trade with Cubs/White Sox/Orioles in which the Cubs get both Brian Roberts and Jake Peavy
  14. Reports are Braves will look to trade Soriano, he has to approve a trade before June 15. Knowing that Hendry is looking for a vet out of the bullpen Soriano could make sense, if they aren't asking a ton for him and it's more of a salary relief move. That June 15th rule applies to guys signed as free agents, not guys retained through arbitration. Corey Patterson was traded in the same offseason after accepting arbitration, for example. Rules must have changed then, according to Crasnick a trade made before June 15th requires his consent. But Joel Sherman says the date is June 1st Crasnickhttp://www.nypost.com/p/blogs/hardball/braves_soriano_problem_RhYgcKSqBbaE8Ke7wXk5mK Sherman
  15. Yanks-Dbacks-Tigers 3-way is reportedly getting close to being done. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/12/yanks-tigers-dbacks-discussed-blockbuster.html
  16. Levine is having a chat on espn.com at 12 fwiw. Probably nothing groundbreaking and just rehashing of what not but if anyones interested thought I would mention it.

  18. The Cubs.com board talking about this is absolutely gold.
  19. Cubs have interest (of some level) in J.J. Putz http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/10475170
  20. Wow ahahaha what the hell are they doing? I really don't get it, first off he is a shell of his former self and sucks at baseball. He isn't a guy who is going to draw fans and he isn't a guy that a non-contending team signs with intention of looking to make a deadline deal, because they will get zero value for him. The only thing I can think of is that they might want a veteran catcher to be there for Strasburg in ST and when he breaks into the majors this year, maybe they just really like something about pudge and what he has to offer in strasburg's development? Still $6 mil. is about $5.5 mil. too much for Pudge at this point.
  21. If he's coaching in AAA next year it obviously means he will be ready to coach in the bigs by 2011. I have to imagine this will only give the idiots more fuel for next year if we start slow/hit a rough patch to throw out Lou. We have at least one guy already with the ML club that is a better head coaching candidate to take over for Lou when he leaves and that's Trammell and I think Jaramillo and Rotschild aren't far off from being as qualified, if not more, than Sandberg.
  22. A deal for both those guys would cost a ton probably Castro, Cashner, one of the Jacksons and another player or two.
  23. Swap out Fontenot with either Lake, Flaherty or Watkins (whoever the Royals like most) and add another arm (Caridad, Coleman, mid level guy) and that seems like a reasonable deal
  24. Because Dunn will be cheaper and only a 1 year commitment. Yeah only 1 year left on his deal, so there is no long term commitment plus they could net a draft pick next year if he leaves to go somewhere else through FA.
