  1. I think the "source" got things mixed up a bit. This is probably how it went down and where they are negotiating from now. Calero's Agent: Hey Jim, how are things? I hear you guys are interested in a veteran MR. Well my guy Calero is the guy for you. He's looking for a 1 year deal in the $2-4 million range. Jim: (As he takes a break from eating donuts of course) Hey (insert Kiko Calero agent's name here) what the [expletive] kind of low ball offer is that? This is the Chicago [expletive] Cubs! We want to start at 2 years $10 million minimum guaranteed with a Full NTC. Your move Calero... And that is probably where we stand now as Calero and his agent have been overblown with Hendry's offer.

  3. Not a bad signing for them, however the deal can reach $12+m in incentives. They now have 3 lefties penciled in the rotation with Davis, Parra, and Wolf. With one of our top two division rivals having 3 lefties in the rotation plus the Pirates having 2 or more lefties in the rotation as well as Wandy down in Houston I wonder if this moves pushes Hendry to focus on getting a deal done with Dye or Nady? http://brewersbeat.mlblogs.com/archives/2010/01/brewers_sign_davis.html
  4. What's the overall outlook on this draft? Is it deep? A couple of big time prospects then averageness the rest of the way?
  5. I think the whole idea of bringing in another OF is that it's a RH hitting one so that he can platoon with Kosuke and we have a RH option to spot start for Soriano (or longer if there is injury). One of Fuld/Colvin/Hoffpauir/Snyder(outside chance) will make the team so we will have our LH OF along with a defensive minded one if Fuld or Colvin make the team.
  6. Would the Rockies be interested in Colvin? They have a glutton of OF options, most of which are young and priced controlled for a while.
  7. I wouldn't be upset at all if Hendry would try and extend Marmol 3-4 years. If he's just asking for $2.5m this year, I would think a 3-4 year deal in the $12-18m range would be fair. Agreed with Theriot once he starts approaching $4m his value diminishes quickly and next year Hendry should really look into moving him in the offseason as Castro could be ready and Theriot will certainly be looking for a $4-6m deal.
  8. Theriot- Asked For: $3.4m Offered: $2.6m Marmol- Asked For: $2.5m Offered: $1.75m Marshall- Asked For: $1.175m Offered: $800k http://www.baseball-iq.com/2010/01/19/arbitration-figures-exchanged
  9. The thing that really jumps out at me about this picture is the "Parking" sign, I wonder if they are going to put in some underground parking for the general public, or if it's more for players, deliveries and premium/box/season ticket holders. http://www.chicagotribune.com/media/photo/2010-01/51687599.jpg
  10. Speaking of off-injured pitchers looking for clubs. I haven't seen the yearly Mark Prior is preparing for ST article that states he has/will start throwing off of flat ground soon and is expected to be ready for the regular season. Anybody got a update on him?
  11. No thank you to a major league deal, doesn't hurt to monitor his progress, nothing more than a ST invite or minor league deal.
  12. All pretty reasonable, what type line do Fontenot/Baker need to put up to get $3m production out of our 2B platoon this year?
  13. If Sheets looks good today, there are enough teams watching, someone will offer him something close to his demands. I could see something along the lines of 2 years with $15-18m guaranteed and another $5m+ in incentives, that seems like to high of a price the Cubs either are willing to pay or able to pay right now. But if Sheets comes out and doesn't look great and warrants something more like a 1 year $5m guaranteed range with another $3-7m in incentives then he would be someone I would think Hendry makes a serious run at.
  14. So with Sheets throwing today (unsure of time?), there is hope of this thread getting back on track with reports likely to come out after he throws about how he looked and potentially the general feelings there on what teams really are interested.
  15. 16th pick overall, last protected pick in the first round. Should be able to add another quality player to our improving system. Hopefully we have money to spend on a guy who falls because of signability issues or teams don't want to overspend.
  16. Sign me up. Have never done it before, I'll give it a shot.
  17. McDaniels doesn't seem like the easiest guy to get along with, maybe Nolan wants to look around for a new position or just couldn't put up working with McDaniels and would rather sit this year out and look for an opening next year than stick in Denver.
  18. I wish this would be something the MLB Network would cover. Most, if not all of, MLB fans don't know what something like Sheets audition is or how it works, it would be cool if they would show it and truly be the MLB Network and show the inner workings of the offseason and not just showing a 1980's All-Star game or 1997 ALCS game.
  19. Those are bad, like you said they look like they should be sold at a Wal-Mart or Gas Station.
  20. I agree at this point in the offseason nobody is going to be giving him a big deal, it's in his best interest to take a 1 yr. deal and re-establish his value and then he could maybe look for a 3-4 year deal. He does have Boras as his agent which means he will probably want to start at 2yr. $20m for negotiations.
  21. How does Nady compare to Dye defensively? IIRC he was just ok with the Pirates and Yankees in the OF, could be wrong though.
  22. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/jays-gm-sticks-to-his-guns/article1434416/Take it for what it's worth. Hopefully it's true, just not for the $10-12m he wants a year.
  23. 1. Starlin Castro 2. Josh Vitters 3. Andrew Cashner 4. Jay Jackson 5. Brett Jackson 6. Kyler Burke 7. Hak Ju Lee 8. Chris Carpenter 9. Chris Archer 10. Ryan Flaherty Others Considered (guys to be considered 11-20): D.J. LeMahieu Logan Watkins Austin Kirk Brooks Raley Dae Eun Rhee Wellington Castillo Kenneth McNutt Tyler Colvin John Gaub Darwin Barney
  24. If the Ravens-Colts game isn't halfway close I might not watch another NFL playoff game until the superbowl.
