  1. Pretty much. Crosby had no business being an NFL kicker from about mid-season this year and Nelson simply isn't a return guy (but has use/potential as a #4/5 receiver).
  2. I am really pulling for Diamond, especially if it comes down between him and Samardzija.
  3. That would be the best Iowa rotation in a long, long time. It would be, but I think one of Diamond, Samardzija, or Caridad will break camp with the big league club. Especially if Lilly misses the start of the season like expected.
  4. Didn't see the Reds at all in this, it's a good move for them IMO.
  5. Plus the fact that he plays like the greatest baseball player known to man when he plays in Arlington
  6. There might not be another thing on this earth that pisses me off more than "the batting stance guy."
  7. Larry Walker is a guy who people should look closely at his numbers. He had some real, real good seasons with the bat and was a great fielder. The Colorado factor may work against him. I think it did against Andres Galarraga. I didn't think Galarraga would ever sniff the Hall, but I thought he'd at least get 5% and hang around for a year or two. Walker put up a very similar career to Duke Snyder. I like Walker. He was entering his prime years as he went to Colorado and actually had a very good season his last year in Montreal. He put up a 1.044 OPS in Colorado. While there's no doubt that Coors helped to some extent, it's not like every hitter that goes there hits at that level over the course of 10 years. Agreed certainly that 1.044 OPS was "Coors aided", but you still got to be a damn good hitter to put up an OPS like that regardless of park and over the course of a decade+ it takes out some of the outlier potnetial. Plus, even take into consideration that he played in Coors and take out the "Coors factor" he is still a .900+ OPS player for a decade. The biggest thing he has going for him, IMO, is that he was an elite hitter in the 90's/early 2000's and is considered a "clean" guy.
  8. That's the truly interesting part and the reason I'm surprised they got a deal done. I'll be pretty interested to see if there's a lot of deferred money. That or if they will start to have a committed payroll well north of $100 mil. in the coming years
  9. Good, they overpayed. I hope this cripples them for the next decade. How is it overpaying? I wouldn't say it's overpaying, it's around market value for a player like Holliday. But unless the Cardinals are going to start committing to being a $110-130 mil. payroll team annually instead of 80-90 this could handicap them in the long run especially after Pujols gets paid this year/next offseason.
  10. Big Ten officiating at it's finest. I haven't been watching every minute of the game, but the parts I have seen, the Refs missed holding calls on Boise's O-line 2-3 times in the first half alone.
  11. Sheets should get something around the Justin Duchscherer ($5.5) and Harden ($6.5) deals at best. Both of those deals only have about half the money guaranteed and both pitchers have had less serious injuries the last few years and have been pitching more recently. Sheets should be Hendry's #1 target right now as we have a serious hole in our rotation right now IMO, with Lilly highly questionable to start the year, Dempster not a sure thing to be much more than a #3, and a back end being compiled of Silva/Samardzija/Marshall/Wells.
  12. With the idea that backloading Byrd's contract allows us to have more financial flexibility and possibly making 1-2 more moves I would like us to sign one of Orlando Hudson or Felipe Lopez and then roll out a lineup of Fukudome RF Hudson/Lopez 2B Lee 1B Ramirez 3B Soriano LF Byrd CF Soto C Theriot SS P
  13. So with the backloading of this contract what other moves do you think Hendry has in mind? Maybe target a 2B leadoff option like Orlando Hudson or Felipe Lopez? Maybe bring in a buy low SP like Sheets? Trade ideas? I don't know if Hendry will target a 2B option if he has to give out more than a 2 year deal, with the inevitable move of shifting Theriot to 2B within the next year or two to make way for Castro at SS along with our depth at MI in the minors where we will likely have guys ready to come up starting next year.
  14. No Silva in the rotation is fantastic news. Agreed, his best chance to be productive for us this year (or at least harm us the least) is to be a long-man or a MR that pitches in mop up duty. Maybe being in the bullpen will allow him to focus on just throwing 2-3 pitches and being a somewhat competent pitcher.
  15. How about a deal with the Mets: Zambrano + Berg/Stevens + Fuld/Colvin + Blanco/Lee (ss) for Reyes + Pelfrey/Maine + Pagan We'd probably have to take Perez's contract back in this situation, Mets are rather strapped for cash and can't be bringing in another $15+ mil. contract annually when they would be giving up players who all have modest to small contracts.
  16. That trade would really interest me, but he just simply isn't an OF. Next year I would absolutely do it. Would it take more than just Z and assuming the rest of Cabrera's contract? I wouldn't do it if they wanted Z, us to take on all of Cabrera's contract, and include 1 of Cashner, Jackson, Vitters, or Castro on top of it. You think we could get them to take Z and Lee so we could put Cabrera at 1B this year? We could get a prospect or two as well as salary relief for this year.
  17. The production we got out of Marquis for 3/21 was completely in line for they #5/4 starter on a team that was operating with the type of payroll we had at the time. Also gotta remember that it was important to Hendry to bring in 2 pitchers that offseason a guy who could be a solid 2/3 (Lilly) and a innings eater who could be above replacement level/around league average (Marquis). This was coming after 2006 when guys like Glendon Rusch, Jerome Williams, Les Walrond, John Koronka, and those other gems were trotted out there everyday on our way to nearly 100 losses. Also given the economic climate of the time the contract was relatively in line with what other FA starting pitchers were getting in relation to their perceived value Zito, Schmidt, Lilly, Suppan, and Meche all got much larger deals than Marquis did.
  18. Good trade for the Yankees IMO. They still need another OF, I wonder if they go after Bay or Holliday now? Or maybe try a bargain guy/vet out like Dye.
  19. I would have to imagine that the Jays have to be giving up a halfway decent prospect (top 10), League is pretty bad and Morrow has some major upside.
  20. Yankees close to a trade for with a pitcher, not a salary dump trade (don't know if Z would be considered a salary dump trade?). per MLBTR
  21. Five years ago, you could still believe in wins as a stat and simply be considered behind the times. But if you don't have some sort of evidence that you were in a coma, monastary, or frozen Encino Man style, we have to assume that you're choosing to remain ignorant rather than attempt intelligent conversation. Stop wasting our time. Sorry, Rob. But you and your confused ilk have yet to provide any stat that is more important than wins for a starting pitcher, especially one that is paid over $18 million a year. What's more important WHIP? Other stats have importance but not to the degree of wins. Your expectations seem quite low and indicative of your understanding. what disability do you have? ESPNitis
  22. This is going to be fun :old_givebeer:
  23. I am catching a connecting flight in Vegas this Saturday (3 hour lay over) I might stop by Cesars a slap $50 down on the Nats to make the playoffs and maybe another $50 on their W/L O/U. Anyone know what their playoff odds are? They gotta be like 35-50 to 1.
  24. He took a "discount" to stay last time, if he has a big year this year he might opt out to try and cash in big one last time. Whether it be the Cubs or somewhere else, he might not leave $20+ mil. on the table this time like he did last time. I agree with you that as long as we make a competitive offer I don't see him leaving to go elsewhere. The only stumbling block I could potentially see (which really isn't/shouldn't be one) is if Vitters continues to improve and Cubs are wanting to bring him up in 2011 or 2012 and want Ramirez to move to 1B and he has some sort of reservations against moving off of 3B and that causes a rift, highly unlikely, but maybe a possibility if someone offers him a 3B base spot and he wants to stay there and not learn another position.
  25. Adrian Peterson is a beast, what a run.
