  1. And one of the heaviest. So we turn our wrath to Geo now? Just stating the obvious. Considering he took two pitches low and out, it may have been worth it. I'm sure he's made some sort of comment to the ump about how he wants Harden to get that pitch as well.
  2. I dont know where some of us are getting the idea that this is just a team thats over pefroming. Its a very solid lineup, especially when Troy Glaus comes back. Pujols, Ludwick, Duncan, Molina, Thurston, Barden will all end with a lower OPS than they currently have.
  3. 18 IP, 20 K, 1 BB, 0 ER is amazing. As I type this I think of May 6, 1998. 9 IP, 20 K, 1 HBP, 0 BB, 0 ER
  4. 2 weeks off after this...
  5. It didn't take long for Theriot to drop from .400+ to .333.
  6. Here's a clue. The pitch is going to be low, outside, slider. DON'T SWING!
  7. I was as angry as anybody else last night. I hate losing, especially to the Cardinals. I really hate losing when they roll a couple of singles through the infield and Pujols steals second to score the go-ahead run. It makes it even worse when Soriano leads off the top of the inning with a double, Miles (batting fourth b/c of an injury) gets down a successful bunt, and then Lee hits one on the screws with the infield pulled in, but it's right at somebody. Yes it's annoying that the Cubs twice stranded a leadoff double and didn't get more runs in the 7th. The point is this. Don't flip out and say you're done with this team. Just take a few days off. Sometimes it's a good idea to just check the box score and not know the details. It's something that we as fans can do that the players can't. Take advantage of that luxury.
  8. Hard to be mad when you score 3 runs, but I wanted a lot more than that from the top of the order.
  9. winner. I'll be much happier if Fukudome drives this run in. If I were TLR I would walk Fuku and Sori and pitch to Miles. Not really, but at least it would guarantee the Cubs don't score this inning.
  10. Hey guys. Just got home form work. Am I reading the box score correctly? Was Soriano picked off of second AND thrown out trying to steal third?
  11. Actually, if that's what you are basing it on, you should really rethink it. Latroy was supposed to be unavailable that game. He wasn't going to pitch. Dusty brings in Dempster, who let two guys on base, then rushes Latroy into the game. So he wasn't going to use him as the closer until he let the other guy put 2 guys on base first. That's setting a guy up to fail. oh yeah, dempster walking two bad hitters ahead of that was really pathetic too, but dempster has at least redeemed himself. hawkins had this terrible tendency to get ahead of hitters and then groove a fastball on two strikes. he gave up a pretty deep fly to a bad hitter before victor diaz' AB, and then did it again on a 2-2 pitch to diaz. he did it a couple of games later against the reds - had austin kearns in an 0-2 hole and threw him a terrible 0-2 pitch that got drilled for a double. i don't know if there is a "closer mentality" but if so, latroy hawkins certainly did not have it. See, part of the reason why I hate him so much is because we took a week off of school in 2004 to see the last two games of the Reds series and the first two of the Braves series right there at the end of the year. The Cubs went 0-4 blowing their playoff chances. Latroy had a lot to do with that, including this double you're talking about. Do you remember Sosa just missing a grandslam in that game? I think it was Kearns who made the catch in right-center as well. Anyway, I am over it now, but I understand if others still want to boo him. I just don't think I will. EDIT: I just remembered the Glendon Rusch started that game against the Reds and hit a homerun. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHN/CHN200409290.shtml Game 2: http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHN/CHN200409300.shtml Game 3: http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHN/CHN200410010.shtml Game 4: http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHN/CHN200410020.shtml
  12. Not to mention a few questionable 3-2 calls that went against him. The OBP may be over .300.
  13. Rational or not, Latroy/Dusty put me through some horrible experiences in 2004. And while I have booed him twice now since then, I'm not proud of it. The guy grew up a Cubs fan and was pumped about playing for them. I'm sure he hates that season even more than we do. He probably had hopes of being around for a long time as a shutdown reliever closing games in October.
  14. Go Cubs Go is awesome after a defeat of the Cards or a late win, but it just seems stupid after games like last nights 7-2 win. I almost think there should be a "coolness" factor that plays into whether or not the song is played. Although I wouldn't mind going to organ music and organ music only. I can listen to music anywhere else. Also, I noticed last night that they did the "Charge!" thing. Not a big fan of that. And whoever started that one wave a few years ago should be shot. Mini-rant over, for now.
  15. I was hoping Gregg would remain good after Saturday. Back to not good.
  16. I'll never understand taking on 3-0 when a pitcher is pitching well and you're a power hitter. Soriano took a 3-0 meat pitch earlier in the game and now Lee takes one. Why let the pitcher get a strike across? If he's pitching well, it will probably be the only good pitch you'll see.
