  1. Starting with the Soto double play the Cubs have seemed to forget the concept of taking a pitch.
  2. ... in early May. Even more impressive.
  3. I saw one of those 13 wins. He almost got a no-decision because the Cubs all of the sudden scored 5 runs off him in the eighth before he could retire an out. Sosa started it all with the longest HR I've ever seen in person, 486 ft. if I remember correctly, into the "Front Row" restaurant. Kim got ejected this game because he was doctoring the ball and some sort of sandpaper or something flew out of his sleeve and Mark Grace saw it and showed it to the umpire.
  4. Seriously, all season long when the Cubs throw a borderline pitch that could be called strike three and it isn't, it leads to runs.
  5. i think their defense is actually pretty good. molina and pujols are two of the best defenders in baseball at their positions, and greene is a good shortstop. ankiel makes some questionable reads but has a great arm; rasmus and ludwick are fine at their positions (duncan is not). can't say i know much about skippy at 2B or barden/thurston at 3B. I have seen Pujols make a lot of bad plays at first base this season. His footwork is totally messed up, and that's the most important thing for a first baseman on defense. There have been plenty of throws that should be easy scoops that Pujols is missing. They're not errors on him, but they're plays that ML first basemen need to make. Greene is having a horrible defensive season.
  6. What about when they lead by 7 after 8 innings?
  7. Nothing tops Aramabombs for me. I think at some point I may have liked sneaky power bombs, but I'm having a hard time placing any of those in my memory. I remember a specific one landing on Sheffield that was awesome, but I don't remember any details other than that.
  8. I think Fukubombs may be my favorite kind of bombs. Although Aramabombs have a special place in my heart as well.
  9. Drayton McClain? LaTroy. He had printed up some, "Bud couldn't stop us this year! 2009 NL Central Champs!" shirts.
  10. Marmol's not available today. Probably not even in the bullpen.
  11. Cards announcers need to take a lesson from the Cubs announcers. Pujols has gotten nothing but praise today from Len and Bob. Cubs players rarely get praise from Cards announcers. Cubs got a break from the blue and they pointed it out. Cards get a break and they act as if nothing unusual happened. Then say Bradley/Lou/Zambrano should just sit down and close their mouths.
  12. That's awesome! He hits Pujols, then Ludwick beats out sissy-arm, but he calls him out, so we start the next inning with Pujols and Ludwick due up 8 and 9. Awesome ending to the inning.
  13. Coming into today it was 12 since joining the Cubs. I don't know about 2009.
  14. That was actually a really good pitch considering he's been striking out on that pitch all season long.
  15. You know, when they start slumping at the plate, their defense is horrible and they will be in some serious trouble. Also, Pujols has developed some bad habits over at first base. I think he's gotten mentally lazy over there. That's bad footwork that made him miss that throw from Greene.
  16. He obviously had Wellemeyer read well enough that it didn't matter who was behind the plate.
  17. Well! That's cool! I would love to see him take the team on his shoulders again.
  18. Good to see that. I thought he might be pulling off of everything in that AB.
