Something like that. It nothing aginst Russell, but hes a relief pitcher. Its what he is. as much as it sucks to lose 2 starting pitchers who happened to look great to the DL, they should use the opportunity to give someone a look see who has a future as a starter. After all, thats how Randy Wells ended up in our rotation. The only guy that really makes sense is McNutt, and I think it's way too early for him to get a start at the big league level. Carpenter isn't stretched out, so he'll only be brought up to fill Russell's spot in the bullpen if Russell is headed to the rotation. Also, Russell came up through the system as a starter. He pitched extended innings in the spring, is already on the 40 man roster, and can swing between the starter role and bullpen. It makes a whole lot of sense for him to make a start or two.
