  1. They've been blown out by three un-ranked teams in their last 10. They're 19th in the Pomeroy rankings. They shouldn't be a 2 or a 3. St. John's has beaten four top 10 teams this year at home and ND was without its 2nd best player in that game as well as the Marquette game you reference. I think that's a valid data point especially since every Purdue fan I know has pissed and moaned all year about Hummel being injured. So, you justify your bitching by referencing how pissy and moany Purdue fan bitching is?
  2. I never said that, but I think comments like this show that certain posters here are.
  3. I guess they just have a "how to be a douchebag at college basketball games" course at Purdue, amiright? I mean, let's forget for a second that it's different students every single year. They ALWAYS boo bad calls! Yeah, because student turnover means a fresh slate every few years, huh? It's good college students don't emulate what others do, and pass behavior on. Courses like that Cameron Crazies refresher course at Duke must have a huge enrollment every year to keep tradition going, since that student turnover kills it all the time. Anyway, I was just making an observation. And it wasn't the bad calls, it was all the calls, or damn near. It's one thing for students to pick up traditions, chants, etc. It's quite another for them to all believe non-fouls are fouls (or vise versa). Did you guys ever stop to think that maybe the select few people that say Purdue reacts to foul calls more than other schools are just... wrong? To me, that seems a bit more feasible. I count like 4 people on here that have a clear bias against Purdue that say that. Never heard it before here.

  5. Lean body mass is the left over after the body fat percentage. It would be disingenuous to say muscle mass. For example, if somebody had 10% body fat percentage, the other 90% isn't all muscle. It's muscle, bone, sinew, cartilage, organs, etc. Believe it or not, part of the weight gain is actually due to an increase in bone mass. Weight bearing exercise has proven to increase bone density. However, I don't think the other components of lean body mass increased in weight. The majority of Splendid Splinter's weight gain here was due to increase in muscle mass.
  6. Just wanted to know what kind of people you're talking about here. I personally have a degree in both dietetics and nutrition/fitness/health. While I'm no expert in muscle hypertrophy and have not really studied it much, based on what I've studied I feel that some people have the ability to add muscle at a rate such as 20lbs over 3-5 month period, as long as they train and eat properly. I would love to read research on it though. Personal fitness, even in extremes, have always been very interesting to me. Also, you may want to check the math on Splendid Splinter's testimonial. He started at: 200lb*.13 body fat= 26lb body fat; 200lb-26lb body fat= 174 lean body mass He ended at: 217lb*.10 body fat= 21.7lb body fat; 217lb-21.7lb body fat= 195 lean body mass 195lb - 174lb = 21lb lean body mass He actually did gain 21lb lean body mass in 5 or 6 months. Granted, he may have had an extra month on LeMahieu to gain that weight if it was 6 months. Regardless, I don't think it's anectdotal evidence that agrees with what you believe.
  7. As I said, maybe my feeling is wrong. I guess it's the residual paranoia of the steroid era. Calm down.
  8. Let's examine candidates from all schools before declaring a victor. I submit to you, the representative from the University of Iowa, Jacob Jaacks. Aaron Craft is shaping up to be a headliner on that list. I'm sure I will curse his name in the same fashion that Illini fans cursed Kramer's.
  9. Interestingly enough, a lot of the stories you hear about so-and-so gaining 20 lbs in 2 months often are true. It's just a shame that a large majority of that weight is a result of water retention.
  10. That makes a lot of sense. I think it's probably a combination of a lot of things. I just feel like some are jumping to the performance enhancing drug conclusion. Maybe my feeling is wrong. I don't think it's completely silly to think these guys may be taking something. It's a consequence of the years of rampant performance enhancing substances in MLB. I just tend to believe that it's a lot harder to get away with it now than some people may think.
  11. it's not. It is. I guess I'm just wondering what everyone thinks is going on here? 11 lbs of muscle and 8 lbs of fat? Rampant steroid use? HGH? If they're not gaining 19 lbs of muscle (which I actually do think that only part of that gain is lean body mass), what is the theory for the weight gain?
  12. I get that he posted in response to my picture, I guess I just expected it to be more than "look, he looks funny here". I was expecting soemthing more like this: Or something showing him mugging a guy like this:
  13. I'm guessing you know nothing about this and threw this out there? You'd be amazed what an athlete in his prime can do when their job is to eat correctly and work out and actually do it every single day for an extended period of time. Football players transitioning from high school ball to college ball do this all the time. If you're implying that they are taking something to add the muscle, I'd be curious to know what you believe it to be. They are actively screening for steroid use at this point (obviously) and despite the fact that everyone loves to point the finger at HGH, multiple studies have shown that HGH negligible benefits to athletes. It would be harder for an athlete in their prime to gain 20 pounds of muscle- harder than pretty much anyone else in the world. If they've peaked already than yes. My guess is 6'4 DJ LeMahieu never really pushed himself too much on gaining weight if he was only ever 180 lbs. My point was more of the fact that a 23 year old male can take on a brutal weight lifting regimen and potentially gain 19 lbs of muscle over the course of 4 or 5 months. At least more capably than a 48 year old female. Yes, he'd typically be more capable of adding muscle than an older female, but he still wouldn't be able to add 19 pounds of muscle in 4-5 months. A guy could probably add that much in a year, provided they'd never lifted weights before, or only did so poorly. To clarify my position, please remember I'm talking about muscle gain. People can certainly gain body weight at a much faster clip than they gain muscle weight. 20 pounds of muscle in three months is pretty much impossible without the benefit of puberty, or maybe steroids. I think Soul provided insight on to the weight being reported. I still contend that it is possible to put on 20 lbs of solid muscle in a 5 month period of time if you're hell bent on doing it, even if that's not exactly the case here. I read a lot of studies in college about increased weight gain, but that was mostly in older populations. Admittedly, I've never read any research on extreme muscle gain like this. Just based on the results I've seen in other studies though, I certainly think it's a legitimate possibility.
  14. Really? The only thing that I come close to getting is that Kramer is licking his lips and looking off into the distance as Painter has his mouth wide open in a felatio-like fashion and is holding his hand in an open fist as if holding a penis. Only problem is it's very obvious that Kramer isn't looking at the invisible penis and that the invisible penis is not on trajectory for Painters mouth, so it's all quite a bit of a stretch. Is that what you were going for? I think you're reading WAY too much into it. I actually wasn't reading into it at all. I had no idea (still don't obviously) why he posted the picture. I tried to think in a juvenile manner and took my best stab. Can you explain it to me?
  15. As I said, you'll have to explain that one to me.

  20. I wish Harris would have actually landed that elbow on him. He did, but it wasn't nearly enough to knock him back 17 feet. Kramer sure as hell sold that one. At least he's gone. Now he can go back to the cave he crawled out of and continue beating women with his club. Yeah, but he'll always be in our memories. http://i.ytimg.com/vi/M8t922UwzpA/0.jpg
  21. No, I don't. (And they're not as bad as Duke) I can't stand when a team plays aggressive defense and hold and grabs a lot, but then the fans bitch when they are called for a foul or when the other team tries to do the same to them. It seems to be a quality shared by PU and Duke fans. You're upset that a student section reacts to fouls against their team? Think about how irrational that is for a second. Do you really expect them all to just quietly sit down following a foul? There's always going to be a double standard no matter what team we're talking about. Just because Purdue tends to play aggressive defense with a lot of contact means their students need to act differently?
  22. cubbiebum. Paint Crew Let's assume that the Purdue students are more obnoxious (or whatever it is you hate about them). Do you have an explanation for why they are soooooooo much worse than every other student section in the nation?
  23. I'm not worried about their guard play. Terone, Anthony Johnson, and a healthy John Hart I suspect will keep their perimeter strong without Moore (although none of those guys will be able to do what Moore does). Hummel will ensure they will be a team capable of making the big dance. Purdue is going to need a big man to make strides next year and fill the void Johnson will leave to some degree. I don't think Lawson is going to be able to jump right into that role. If one of Bade, Marcius, or Carroll can make big strides, I think they'll have the talent to be a second tier team in the Big Ten.
  24. Are you talking about Jay Simpson? What makes him a two star prospect in your book and why does Rivals have him rated as 4 stars? Also, is Raphael Davis a sub 4 star prospect in your eyes too? Plus, Purdue has made the last two Sweet Sixteens (lost to champion Duke and Final Four team UCONN). Purdue has won at least a game in the tourney the last four years. Illinois hasn't won a game in the tourney since 2006. No one argued Purdue isn't a better program right now. They clearly are. I think Smack thought Sully was saying that it's typical for Purdue to fall out of the tourney early on. I'm not sure if that was the case or if he was just saying they aren't talented enough to get to the sweet 16.

Johnson is almost guaranteed to get his points, but one mediocre shooting game from Moore and they could be upset in the second round. They lean so much on those two. It just kills me to know they could have Scott Martin and Hummel pitching in 10-15 points per game and 5-7 rebounds per game each.
