I don't think he said that in terms of he being benched was a mistake byt he coaches. I think he was saying that if he did make mistakes, that the coaching staff should be understanding as they are human too.

oh i see we still don't understand the rule about completing a catch. the call was correct, it may be a stupid rule but it was ruled properly after the review. and the "unimpressive dallas team" just won in houston; that houston team beat indianapolis in week one. dallas is still a good team and winning in dallas is a very good win. and your third point, i haven't really seen anyone saying that the bears are the favorites to make the super bowl because they won last night's game. i HAVE seen you suffer a complete meltdown because of your team losing a close game to a rival, though, so that's been pretty fun. I don't think that word means what you think it means. Was I upset after the loss? Yes. Did I have a "complete meltdown" as you put it? No. I didn't say anything that wouldn't have been said from the Bears side had the shoe been on the other foot. And I probably would have said a lot of the things you guys said in response. Follow it up with a "I've been entertained, but this is so beneath me that I'm going to leave... yeah... that's why I'm leaving" type response and you can check the argument off on the win column!

Didn't do a good job of making a point there. Meant it more along the lines of organizational filler (Mathes) and back end of the rotation/middle relief (Rusin) as compared to Marshall. Wait... hasn't Marshall always been back end of the rotation/middle relief? :lol:

There should be little doubt that minor league pitcher of the year will be a two horse race between Archer and McNutt. There was a time when I thought Archer was the clear favorite and he's been making lots of noise in major publications, so he has a great chance to win out. However, McNutt's numbers are fantastic. Especially his peripherals. I think the fact that McNutt didn't take a loss till August (which really shouldn't be consider... but it will) could tip the scales in his favor, but I wouldn't be surprised by either one. Minor league player of the year isn't as clear cut. Jackson looked like the runaway favorite in the first half. An .823 OPS at AA for a 21 year old is nothing to frown upon, but guys like Canzler, Guyer, and Marquez Smith may have passed him by with their fantastic second halves. LaHair and Snyder are possibilities. Junior Lake should get a bit of consideration, but his overall numbers are gonna give him no shot. Robinson Chirinos has been the best most consistent player based on the numbers though. He also didn't have the benefit of hitting in the PCL for most of the season. He should be the guy in my mind.

It might not be nerves - his control is his biggest weakness. Bruce, it's good to see you around the Minor League forum lately. Good to be at a minor-league park. I think it would be a good idea, if feasible, for major-league beat writers to spend a series with one of the minor-league clubs. I'm sure there wouldn't be too much arm twisting involved if you were "forced" to go see the Daytona Cubs.

Does it really matter if he's a starter or not next year? I don't think signing 32 year old Adam Dunn to a longish contract so we don't have to tolerate Colvin at 1st is in the teams long term best interest. Dunn/Pena/other FA 1B won't make enough of a difference next year anyway.

I think it depends on if he's a capable CF still. I used to remember hearing how he was a solid defensive center fielder, but he's been playing mostly in the corner spots this year. It may be because the Cubs value Campana there more, but I would think a guy like Guyer who has power potential would be more important. He could be a platoon partner with Colvin or a 4th outfielder for sure IMO. If he can play center, he may be able to break through as a starter. I always liked him, but he kinda fell off my radar after a slow start this year along with the injury. He's certainly impressed over all this year though.

I'm still not a big fan of the move. If Castro develops as he is supposed to, the Cubs cost themselves 7-10 million dollars by bringing him up one month early. That's a tough pill to swallow especially when knowing the 1 month they sacrificed it for came in a meaningless season. I don't think Castro should have been held down for development reasons but the financial difference was too much to ignore. You don't know that. There's not specific date that indicates when a player needs to come up to avoid becoming a super 2 down the line and starting the arbitration clock early. It involves MLB service time relative to Castro's peers (meaning the other rookies from this year). There was an inordinate amount of rookies to start the year, so I tend to believe he won't be a super 2 for the 2012 season.

This list stings. I didn't even realize Parker was sent down to AA. I was really high on him last year and coming into this season.

Kind of disappointing. Given how long it's been since he's had Tommy John, I wonder if that velocity will ever come back. If he has a 74 mph changeup, the 89 mph fastball will work for him.
