  1. To be fair, Vitters has been given passes in the past. I'm not sure if his spurts of awesomeness has earned him those passes, but the Vitters critics really only started popping up near the end of last season.
  2. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/a/anderga01.shtml I know he has a slightly better walk rate, but we have a guy like this on the current team in Soriano.
  3. I'm not sure what you're suggesting. What can Purdue really do to discourage a player from playing? Obviously, it looks very convenient, but I can't understand what they could possibly do to convince him not to stay committed to Purdue. A guy on the team already, you can whisper in his ear about how much better he would be at football (IE: Bade).
  4. A lot of Painting going on! :P Seriously??
  5. Didn't know that about Rosario either. He's a guy I've kept an eye on since aggressive promotions two years ago where he ended up in Daytona I believe.
  6. Is that last bit accurate? Do we have any sort of ace pitcher, even if "ace" is very optimistic, that we can pencil into the rotation over the next couple of years? Without at least one of these can we really compete? Between Cashner, Whitenack, McNutt, Carpenter, and Archer there has been some heavy turnover in elite pitching talent in the last year to the point where I don't see us developing a true Ace soon. Other than C.C. opting-out are there any free agent prospects in the next few years? The 2012-2013 free agent class has some great starters available including Cole Hamels and Matt Cain.
  7. Logan Watkins has a 1.296 OPS in his last 10 games.
  8. I just became a quasi-Celtic fan after they picked up Johnson and Moore. I'm really curious to see how Johnson's career in particular unfolds.
  9. I would cry if JaJuan Johnson ended up on the Heat. I don't want to hate him. Moore wouldn't be a terrible pick for the Bulls in the second round. I don't see him getting much playing time right away, but if he gets time to develop his jumper and become a legit threat from behind the line, he could be a long term answer at shooting guard. He should be able to defend well enough. He's only 6'4, but he uses his length really well on the defensive side to deny passing lanes. It's going to be a long shot for him to develop his offensive game enough to be a starting 2 guard in the NBA though. He'll need to take notes from Arron Afflalo's NBA game.
  10. In case anyones wondering, Jackson went back to being bad as hes given up 5 ER on 9 hits through 3. Something is clearly wrong. A guy doesn't go from very good to on the verge of release unless something is very wrong. I was as big a fan as Jay as anyone out there, but it's possible that the main issue is that he simply never adjusted and developed, and his flaws were always issues that could get him potentially exposed in PCL ball. I haven't heard anything suggesting that the velocity is lower than before. If someone has, let me know, but last I heard, he was still running it in the low 90's, which is pretty much where he's sat most of his career in our system. But while his arm action was fairly clean, his body action was always in need of work, as he was more of a thrower who didn't get his body into it. His slider flashed potential in the lower levels, but it seems to have stalled out. The guy was flat out dominating the PCL a year ago. It seriously seems like they moved the walls in on all the PCL parks by 100 feet. It's not just with Jackson. The PCL is always supposed to be a hitters dream, but this is ridiculous.
  11. It should be strange and unusual punishment to be a fly ball pitcher in the PCL.
  12. I see 10-12 able to come off the 40 man roster without any problem. There's probably 3 or 4 more that could get traded at the deadline. Then we have a handful of free agents (Kosuke, Aramis, Pena, Grabow, Samardzija), some of which are included in the likely to be traded category. Factor in any free agents the Cubs will sign, and I think we're likely to see at least 8-10 of these guys put on the 40 man roster. Almost certainly added to the 40 Jeff Beliveau, LHP Steve Clevenger, C-1B Ryan Flaherty, IF-OF Matt Szczur, OF Josh Vitters, 3B-1B Dae-Eun Rhee, RHP Likely to be added to the 40 Marwin Gonzalez, IF-OF Junior Lake, INF Jay Jackson, P Possibly could be added to the 40 Nelson Perez, OF Rebel Ridling, 1B Marquez Smith, 3B Matt Spencer, 1B-OF
  13. Baseball Reference has him listed at 6'1 180 lbs. Considering he's only 17, I'm thinking he should have power potential.
  14. I know he hasn't impressed in the last year and a half, but Logan Watkins recently has been on a tear. .919 OPS in his last 10 games. Would be helpful if he got on track and got that OBP back up.
  15. As toonsterwu just said, unless his FB has improved velocity-wise, he's not even in my Cubs top 10. I thought he was throwing low 90s? I'm fine with that from a lefty that can strike out almost 9 per 9.
  16. Another great outing by Kirk. Isn't it about time he got promoted? It would be fantastic if the Cubs had a lefty starter move in to top 100 this year. If he maintains a 1.24 WHIP and a 3.10 K/BB, I think he could be a consideration.
  17. 32 walks to 3 strikeouts. I know high school numbers dont mean much and so there's some mixed reports on his plate discipline, but I think its best we withhold judgment on that until we've seen him play some games professionally. I have to wonder how plate discipline and swinging and missing are issues of his if scouts haven't seen him do it. I'm not trying to be facetious either, there's got to be a reason these are being reported about him. Anyone that's into high school scouting that can explain?
  18. I'm hoping Dong-Yub Kim ends up at Boise. That may be the most talented Boise team I can remember seeing in quite some time. Lots of guys to keep an eye on. Also, I didn't realize Chen was being moved to center field.
  19. It's sad that people look for ways of making their lives miserable. "That bird almost [expletive] on me, but it didn't! I'm not even good enough in that birds mind to carry his [expletive] around for him. [expletive] my life!"
  20. don't you think other teams would find it a bit odd that the cubs are looking to trade a productive young rookie when their season is in the toilet? even if the other teams in mlb have complete morons as GMs, the cubs shopping the type of guy they would theoretically be keeping would look pretty strange. I don't think anyone believes another MLB team will be hoodwinked by Hendry on a Barney trade. If I'm another team and I have a hole at SS, I'd be very happy to have Barney. I'm just having a hard time estimating how much I'd be willing to give up for him since we have that hole filled pretty well. Sometimes it's a curse having a 21 year old shortstop with an OPS approaching .800.
  21. Good lord is that frustrating after he went 42-70 for 19.2 points per game in the ECF.
  22. Sounds like you would've been happier as a Sox fan. Personally, I prefer that my team's executives not act like clowns in order to pander to their idiot fanbase. Good to see where you stand, though. Why because Cub fans are supposed to be happy with losing? How is Ricketts giving an honest answer, acting like a clown to please his fan base? And do you include yourself as part of the "idiot fanbase"? The funny thing is that the quote has already been removed from Chicagosports.com and my guess is that after seeing it that Ricketts realized that he made a mistake. So Ricketts owns Chicagosports.com? Or he sent his goons to the editor? Seriously. Take a step back and think about it. What difference would it really make either way? Is it really worth getting this upset about a throw away comment? They are mid season, there's no reason for the owner to get over dramatic about the team so a portion of the fan base will feel better that he's "angry". He has a lot more to lose than to gain by doing that.
  23. I can live with this. I don't care that it turned into what looks like a mediocre start, he pitched well and ran into an unlucky inning. I'm extremely excited to see how well he's doing this year, especially his ground ball rate which I assume means he's throwing his crazy split finger/change up and throwing it effectively.
  24. The Cubs BABIP is pretty much where it should be based on their LD% Why does everyone always forget LD% when discussing high BABIPs?
  25. Holy [expletive]! How did I not notice that in real time?
