  1. I really don't see how he makes sense unless he's the only pitcher being added to the roster. He's not better than Hammel or Hendricks. If our major pitching acquisition is Mike Leake I may have an aneurysm before opening day.
  2. There is almost no scenario you could give me that would make me excited about Mike Leake. [expletive] that guy.
  3. That would be a huge mistake. The NL central race is going to be much too tight a race to wait half a season before fully upgrading the rotation. He could be a believer in first half Hammel. Or he could believe it was the hamstring (right?) injury that diminished Hammel's effectiveness in the second half. Personally, I'm okay with adding one MLB starter, someone with options like Sierra and then additional depth at the upper levels of the minors. I don't see a huge need to add two pieces to the rotation right away. 2016 and 2017 are likely the best squads this team is going to have over the duration of their playoff window. Lester is only going to get older, Arrieta will only get older and possibly be gone, etc. Everything needs to be poured into this year and next. Going into 2016 without significantly improving the squad is a huge mistake.
  4. No team is going to sign Shark to a one year deal due to the loss of a draft pick. He's also another 2015 away from being a 3/36 guy.
  5. That would be a huge mistake. The NL central race is going to be much too tight a race to wait half a season before fully upgrading the rotation.
  6. 6/130 is about the absolute maximum I could envision paying Cueto. Unless he really dislikes ARI, I don't think he stands to gain much by turning this deal down.
  7. That's a pretty reasonable contract good for Detroit. For the Cubs this seems to mean 1 of 2 things. They either had no interest in Zimmermann at all or they are dead certain that they can get a guy of 2 that are better and or cheaper. 5/110 is a lot for a guy who is 7 years off his TJS when the procedure usually only lasts 7 to 8 years. It's a pretty big gamble for Detroit.
  8. I don't' get it, even with the Zimmermann signing I don't think they're better than KC,MIN or CLE.
  9. Especially not if Contreras is involved. Ew. I don't think I understand this sentiment. Contreras is a fine prospect, but Shelby Miller is a reasonably proven commodity at a position of need, and at an ideal time. The years of control and his age are also quite desirable. I may be buying into his 2015 a bit much, but if that's the start of his ascent toward "prime," a prospect like Contreras is well worth it to me. He's not that good and primarily a 2 pitch pitcher. There are far too many pitchers available to pay the price tag for Miller.
  10. I just really hate Lackey as a person and find him underwhelming as a pitcher.
  11. Last year he put up a 3.61ERA, 3.41FIP, 3.69xFIP with a 3.3fWAR. This included a sub 2.00ERA after being traded to Pittsburgh.
  12. Stroman,Happ,Dickey,Chavez,Hutchison and Estrada. I do believe the Blue Jays are now out on Price. They just signed Happ and Estrada in FA, they picked up Dickey's option and traded for Chavez.
  13. I didn't mean to imply they'd get to 200 this offseason, but the rumor was they wanted to be closer to 200 than 300.
  14. I really would like they made the draft a free for all again. Let some team dump 25M to completely revamp their farm system in one year instead of having to do it over a 3 year period.
  15. Honestly, how many Price suitors are even realistic at this point. STL needs to address their offense and there's no way they can grab Chris Davis or Heyward if they grabbed Price. Even with Lynn's TJS and Lackey leaving they're still super deep. Wainwright,Wacha,Martinez,Garcia,Gonzales,Lyons and Cooney. Dodger's have been heavily rumored to be trying to shed payroll to get down closer to 200M which many believe leaves them out of Greinke and therefore Price territory. Thanks to the luxury tax, the Yankees would have to pay 45M a year to have David Price pitch and there's no way it's going to happen. I kind of get the impression the Red Sox are bidding against themselves right now.
  16. I hope that Boston is stupid enough to do that. 7/225 Boston, have fun with that.
  17. Yeah, he has my vote for 2nd infielder off the bench with Lastella being the other. He should be an improvement over Herrera, at least.
  18. Gentry was DFA'd, I think he could probably be had on a minor league contract, with roster invite at this point. He'd definitely be superior to Szczur as a 5th OFer option. If he came real cheap I'd be game.
  19. Over 10 years I think that's absolutely reasonable. There's no way he's getting 30M annually or an 8 to 10 year deal.
  20. 4.07xFIP, 4.16xFIP and 88.3% of his pitches are a fastball or a cutter. I wouldn't pay anywhere near what it would likely take to land him.
  21. My ideal Scenario I believe we were sitting at about 112M assuming all arbitration cases were tendered. Non Tender Wood (-7M) Samardzija 4/60 (+15M) Trade Soler(2m)+Hammel(11M)+5M to Indians for Salazar+Justus Sheffield (-8M) Heyward 10/200 (+20M) O'Day 4/32(+8M) Trade Candelario or Vogelbach for Will Smith(MIL) That should put payroll at roughly 133M, leaving about 7M for whatever else(Vladmir Gutierrez/Yasiel Sierra). 1B:Rizzo 2B:Castro SS:Russell 3B:Baez RF:Bryant CF:Heyward LF:Schwarber C:Montero Bench:Ross,LaStella,Szczur,Coghlan,C.Villanueva SP:Arrieta,Lester,Salazar,Samardzija,Hendricks RP:Rondon,O'Day,Strop,Grimm,Smith,Richard,Ramirez Offense improves slightly. Defense at (3B,RF and CF improves. BP and SP drastically improve.
  22. To me, this is exactly what it would mean. Add Jeff at 5/85, trade for Ross or Salazar, throw 10/200 at Heyward and move Hammel and the 11M he's owed to whoever. That would leave you roughly 10M to address whatever else.
  23. Sign Heyward Trade Baez+ for Ross Sign Cuban Sierra Post for Maeda Rizzo/Castro/Russell/Bryant/LaStella/Another IF Schwarber/Heyward/Soler/Coghlan/RH CF Backup Type Montero/Ross Arrieta/Lester/Ross/Hendricks/Hammel/Sierra/Maeda/Rich Hill Type While I very much would like Sierra or Maeda, I'd prefer someone with a history of getting it done in the MLB.
  24. Heyward would be option #1 for me if I could come up with a realistic option that still allowed the Cubs to add 2 pitchers. After Heyward I'm not even sure they could afford to go out and grab the Kennedy and Kazmirs of FA.
  25. I hope there's very limited to no interest there. Guy has been a 3fWAR player who happened to put up a monster 6.7fWAR in his walk year. He's going to get way too much money for the type of player he has been 3 of the last 4 seasons.
