When you figure in their first half salaries and how much they ate to trade them that's like 147M for 2/3 of a season from each pitcher and 3 prospects.
I can't say it's great for the game when division leaders like the Reds, Twins and Orioles are doing absolutely nothing and teams 2.5 or less games out of the division/WC are selling or completely standing pat(Boston, SF, ARI, CLE)
I find it interesting that Candelario is the biggest move any team in either the NL central or AL central has made. I'm not sure anyone really wants to win these divisions.
Ok, so what the hell are the Orioles doing? Tampa and Toronto make multiple deals. Houston and Texas make significant deals. Meanwhile the Orioles have added Shintaro Fujinami and that's it.
yes, fWAR loves him, but the actual results haven't been great. A 4.15 and 3.91 ERA are solid and the 2.20 is nuts, but looking like an outlier. He might be a victim of bad defense, I'm not sure, but the actual production has not matched the peripherals.
The cost is supposedly crazy high and, while he isn't a free agent until 2026, his results have only been really good one year while the others they're been more solid than anything else.
You realize you're advocating for Mancini right now right? Sure Mervis might suck, but we know unequivocally that Mancini does in fact suck. There is literally nothing to lose and at they very least they would find out that Mervis is no part of the 2024 plan if he bombs.
