  1. Does this keep them out on Bichette now?
  2. Okamoto has to be finished by mid day on the 4th right? If so, we're almost certainly going hear something in the next few hours.
  3. I mean, when was the last time the Cubs went out got the one of the top guys in FA? You could argue Dansby, but before that offseason most had him as the 4th best SS available. It has obviously worked out pretty well. Is it Jason Heyward back in 2016?
  4. You're way too optimistic about this. I think the odds of this are sub 50%.
  5. I don't know, Toronto seems like the front runners on Tucker, there's no way they could do Tucker and Bichette right?
  6. I'm sure Jed did what Jed does. " I know just about everyone is expecting you to get a 6 or 7 year deal but I can offer you a 3 year deal with slightly higher AAV and an opt out after the 2 year. How about that?"
  7. They were more or less a .500ish team for 2/3s of a season too. From June 3rd through the end of the year they were 54-48
  8. They just beat the ever loving horsefeathers out of Bama, damn.
  9. Are we just ignoring the entirety of the time in the minor leagues, the scouting reports or that Shaw was worth twice as much fWAR last year even though they hit similarly because Shaw has become a plus defender at 3B and looks to be a 25-30 SB guy? Please don't make me defend Shaw, it makes me feel gross.
  10. How can the worst team in the league only be a -8 almost half way through the season, that seems crazy to me.
  11. So guy with broken hand is not worth a big contract if he has to perpetually play with a broken hand. Noted.
  12. That feels like a drastic overpay. 6 Years of Shaw and Alcantara for 3 years of Cabrera and a guy whose upside is bench bat.
  13. Does the rest of the season where he doesn't have an injured hand not count?
  14. Not letting myself believe it for one damn second https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2026/01/yankees-cubs-dodgers-have-checked-in-on-bo-bichette.html
  15. You find me the RFer who is going to post 4.5 fWAR in a down year on the cheap. I'll be waiting.
  16. Yeah if they're getting a bat it almost has to come from FA, making a SP trade the obvious route, but it's Jed so I have zero expectations for anything substantial. With Jed it's always the same, you know he wont shop at the top of the market so you look at the 2nd tier FA where they should be, but then realistically he's going to shop a tier or two below that too.
  17. If I were to set odds I'd put them like this at the moment They go into 2026 with a worse team than they left 2025 50% They go into 2026 similarly as good as they left 2025 40% They go into 2026 with a better team than they left 2025 10% Right now without Tucker I don't think there's any question the current squad is worse than it was at the end of the 2025 season.
  18. I have so little faith in a GM who so completely whiffed at the trade deadline that his RP acquisition had to become his SP acquisition because he so badly judged the market. The same GM who fumbled the numbers and put the cubs over the cap, something I've ever seen any other GM do.
  19. Far too optimistic
  20. Which would be reasonable if he hadn't come out and explicitly said he had to upgrade the rotation. He set those expectations so it's his own fault he's going to get dragged by fans and he's going to deserve all of it.
  21. Assuming Suarez and Valdez aren't realistic, they aren't, I think about the only exciting scenarios I can think of now would be like Bregman+ traded for pitcher or on the cheap side Okamoto + traded for pitcher.
  22. Boyd was coming off of about 60 innings showing he had clearly figured something out, which his peripherals supported, it was just a matter of health. Giolito has sucked the last 3 years and all he has going for him is he stays healthy.
  23. If they go after someone like Giolito I will be so pissed. Just an absolute waste of money who isn't an obvious upgrade over the top 5 starters and far more expensive than the current Cub 6 and 7 options.
  24. And potentially wrap yourself up in a 4 year deal for a guy who might not be better than any of Steele/Boyd/Horton/Taillon/Shota. Right now the Cubs are a worse team then they were when they ended 2025 and at this point I think there's very few realistic scenarios where you could say they will enter 2026 a better team.
  25. I mean, I feel like Gallen is also going to want a opt out after year 1 to establish 2025 was a fluke and sign a big contract. If so, I guess that puts the Cubs out on him too.
