  1. I'd make a hard push for Anthony Grant. I realize doing so costs us Jerrance, but I'd still do it. I don't want Mike Thomas anywhere near a basketball hire. Weber's not getting fired this year, its just not happening. However, I think Illinois is better than any Big Ten job except Indiana or MSU, especially with the renovated arena on the way.
  2. With the expansion of the SEC-Big East challenge, they'll play at least 1 every two years now. Not with realignment. Cuse and Pitt to the ACC. Easy mistake to make.
  3. Losing Jennings would suck. I just want him to be OK for the playoffs. Either way, Randall Cobb is there and ready to step up.
  4. If Brewster sounded like a meathead, that's what Beckman sounded like. I was very underwhelmed with how he spoke, however, I thought he had a solid message. Competition will be the bedrock of the program, he is going to hold players accountable and he's got the same type of passion Zook did. I'm not thrilled about the hire, but I'm behind him 100%. After seeing Mike Thomas' negotiating skills, I don't want him anywhere near a basketball hire.
  5. Thomas showed how green he is on this one. Not happy about the hire at all. Naduzzi, Chryst and Monken all would have been better than Beckman. Fired the most successful coach in since Mike White or John Makovich (take your pick), and end up with MAC Crap. Wonderful.
  6. He's got McCameyitis paul is longer and quicker than mccamey. he should be slashing to the hoop all the time. but he can get to the rack at will and is just as dumb, much like Demetri
  7. He's got McCameyitis
  8. i don't know if it's his choice or weber's choice for him to stand and dribble 10 feet behind the three-point line. why hasn't he been driving the ball all game? Because for whatever reason he doesnt acknowledge the fact he has god given talent.
  9. Wow Paul so nice to see you you [expletive] turd.
  10. [expletive] brandon paul. [expletive] go to the rack. all you do is chuck it. nothing more frustrating than a player who doesnt understand his strengths.
  11. yeah, we're going to lose. sorry guys. we've seen this before. let me play this out for you, no one will drive the ball, our big man is soft and we keep turning it over. then we settle for a three at the end of the clock. wash, rinse, repeat. weber ball
  12. Well he's from Wheaton and the DVC produces talent every year. He'll likely get Wes Lunt to decommit from Ok St. He's also spent time in the NFL, the SEC and the Big 12, which I presume would help Illinois in recruiting SEC/Big 12 leftovers out of the South and Texas. I'm concerned that he is a little green, having spent only one year as a coordinator, and would prefer either Narduzzi or Chryst for that reason. I've heard that Chryst doesn't really like to recruit, which at a place like Illinois is fatal even for a head coach. Not so sure on Narduzzi's penchant for hitting the road. So at this point I think I'd rank the three coordinators (1) Narduzzi (2) Chryst (3) Monken. As I said earlier, Sumlin is the clear number one, but I think he's a pipe dream.
  13. OK St's OC Monken interviewed for the Illinois job. I'm starting to get real antsy about this.
  14. Bittersweet.
  15. Big win for the Illini. The team continues to impress, and they are a real fun group to watch. We need to cut down on our perimeter fouls, lots of stupid handchecks today. I really like the way Brandon Paul is playing, he's been more aggressive in driving the ball, and has developed a great crossover.
  16. How many times does this myth have to be dispelled. Wisconsin has legitimate talent. Ryan isn't winning with a bunch of scrubs
  17. It's kind of sad. I used to love to hate Iowa hoops, but now they're just kind of pathetic. When I was growing up they were usually good, and it was more fun that way. My big three teams have always been Iowa basketball and football and Cubs baseball. I think what has happened to the Iowa basketball program has taken a small part of my soul from me. I used to live to see Iowa lose. Illinois-Iowa games were right up there with Cubs-Cards. Now, seeing Carver-Hawkeye half empty during the ACC/B1G challenge and the Hawks getting destroyed by a mediocre team, it makes me feel a little melancholy. Yeah, [expletive] Iowa.
  18. It's nice to finally have a point guard with some balls. Loving Maniscalo thus far this year.
  19. We just paid a hefty buyout to Zook. I think Thomas takes care of Jollette Law first, and waits a year to evaluate Weber. This year will have its ups and downs but barring a complete collapse Weber will be around in 2012.
  20. How about a head coach who is doing well at a lessor school? The Turner Gill factor deters me from picking up a guy from the MAC. Sumlin would be number one on my list, but I don't think he is a realistic hire for Illinois. Thomas has indicated he like hiring coaches with experience at the helm so I doubt I'll get my wish.
  21. Sorry, I posted my thoughts in the weekly college football thread. They are more appropriate here. Zook is gone. Let the speculation begin. The top of my list is Paul Chryst and Todd Monken. Chryst knows the Big Ten, and can bring a pro style system based on physical play which works in the Big Ten. Monken is an Illinois native and can likely bring QB Wes Lunt with him. I don't want a retread head coach. I want a coordinator from an established program, who can recruit the south and Texas. I'm done with trying to lock down Illinois and Chicago in recruiting, as the best players will still continue to choose ND and Michigan over Illinois. I also want a coach who understands the importance of special teams, playing fundamentally sound football and most of all playing disciplined. Also we should keep Koenning on to run the defense.

Thoughts are duplicated in the coaching search thread.
  23. karmas a bitch Yup. 16 straight wins including 3 over the Bears, 10-0 record this season, and a Super Bowl Championship is surely a bitch. I think the Bears will squeak out three wins and make the playoffs against their schedule. Hopefully this doesn't cause the Christmas day game to suck.
  24. Just when I was starting to believe the Bears were a legitimate threat in the NFC. That really sucks for you guys, but I can't say that I'm unhappy about this development.
