They almost ended up in the Mountain West because of Mizzou's actions. Rivalries are for fans, not for schools. It's unfortunate, but it's business. Self is perfectly justified in what he is doing, and forgetting the dregs Kansas almost fell to is taking the entire situation out of context.

Tweets I'm seeing from Weber's presser today give me reason for optimism. We'll see how the team responds. I want them to make a run so badly, I want to believe, but I just can't.

Well if you want to go back to the beginning of the sport, then Illinois magically becomes the third best football team in the Big Ten. Does that really seem like a sensible argument to you? Same reasoning applies to basketball.

Off the top of my head with absolutely no research the B1G historically stacks up as follows: IU, MSU, OSU/IL, Mich, Iowa, Purdue, Wisconsin, Minnesota, everyone else. There's a clear tier one with IU/MSU, arguments can be made between OSU, IL, and Michigan, and then you've got tier three. Trying to convince yourself Purdue is the best historical program in the Big Ten is total hogwash.

ig said he gets it within 60 days Update on The Score just said that alumni/donors have made it clear to the AD that the buyout should not be a factor in his decision to fire or not fire Weber. It's just too bad that his hands are going to be tied by the BOT in the hiring process.

Yeah, he's earned not getting fired in the middle of the year. He's ran a clean program and taken us further than anyone else ever has. You only fire POS like Kelvin Sampson in the middle of the season. Not to mention it will drive away nearly every candidate.

Quoting because I kept editing. Why are all the freshmen going to leave when we'd have a new coach? ETA: Gary Williams hates recruiting. He's a good guy, but he'd be a disaster here. Ok thanks for clarifying on Williams. Thomas hung Weber out to dry on radio, making him a lame duck. Now I agree change is necessary, but every coach wants an AD who will have his back in public. Smart and Thomas worked together at Akron, and I think it is this type of behavior that will turn him away from our job.

This is just so depressing. We are headed towards being Iowa in the post Alford era. Leonard's gone, Paul is likely gone, we have freshman that haven't seen the floor for the entire Big Ten season and are likely to transfer. Things are going to get bad...quickly. Thomas must hit a home run and make the right hire and given his track record of hiring basketball coaches, I'm not encouraged. He bungled the football hiring, and now he's devalued the basketball job by putting Weber on a skewer and letting him roast for a month and a half. Who wants to work for a boss like that? RIP Illinois basketball. My list of acceptable replacements: Smart, Romar and Buzz Williams. I'd also throw out a feeler to Gary Williams, as he coached for years at a similar program in terms of prestige, little brother syndrome and rabid fan base. Anthony Grant doesn't excite me, he's done nothing at Alabama. As for the Paint Crew comments, Purdue's student section didn't become anything great until Hummel's sophomore year. It's all cyclical. Illinois has been in the doldrums for six years now, and it's a lot harder to be in the Orange Krush than other student sections because you have to fundraise. You can't just show up buy a ticket and sit on the floor like at other schools. It's amazing people still care.

Quit being such a vag. Why is there no chance? He's on record saying he loves Chicago, MT hired him at Akron, and we were good enough pre Weber to attract Bill Self. Unreal. Because he hates Mike Thomas from his time at Akron.

Indiana was in the bonus in the second half before they even had a foul called on them. The fourth foul on Leonard was one of the worst calls I've ever seen. I'm so happy the Weber era is coming to a close. Too bad there's no chance Shaka ends up at Illinois.
