  1. Hogan needs to go because he's an [expletive], the faculty has turned on him, and he's unethical. Thomas would need to go because he has exhibited an ability to fire, but no ability to hire competent replacements. Any idiot could have fired Zook, Weber and Law. They were no brainers. If he whiffs here, he's simply not capable of wearing the big boy pants needed to get the job done. Plus, he seems like a horrible person to work under.
  2. Shaka Watch Day Two Commence. I don't expect anything to happen today. I think we know Wednesday or Thursday. This hire will define Thomas. Its being widely reported Shaka is the man, and MT already whiffed on Sumlin. Lots of pressure for the new AD to deliver. If he doesn't, he needs to go, along with Hogan.
  3. I've read nothing to indicate Williams is a candidate in anyone other than the fans minds. Can someone provide a source?
  4. Is this better? http://cdn0.sbnation.com/imported_assets/1013918/quinn.gif

  6. I hate Mizzou. I'm so happy. Trolllolololololol
  7. the only coach i can remember ever leaving for a job within the same conference is tubby smith. if we get him first, there's no way he leaves for wisconsin. it's not nearly as good of a job as illinois, anyway. I'm not so certain that is the case anymore. Great city, rabid fan base, newer arena, sustained success. They are close enough to Chicago where a guy like Shaka could recruit it, and they also have a strong presence in the Twin Cities. I still think Illinois is the better job, but the chasm is not as wide as you think. Assembly Hall needs a facelift, Ubben is beginning to look obsolete, and Champaign is not exactly a destination.
  8. Nothing would make me happier than Indiana losing to VCU and then hiring Smart. Let's make it happen. I looked at a VCU message board last night, they think Shaka's 8 year deal is a huge pull for him to stay in Richmond and that he is "happy." They also believe he passed on "better jobs" last year in NC State and Maryland. Another concern I have is he is waiting out Bo Ryan in Madison. I'd like to see an initial five or six year deal, somewhere around 2.2 to 2.5 million with a clause that Smart cannot leave for the Wisconsin job. If that fails my list is Grant/Pastner/Heath in that order.
  9. Stephen's dad played at Purdue and was an NBA player. This isn't some sort of great recruiting coup. Someone refresh my memory why Illinois didn't take Lew Jack? Were we full boat on scholly's due to Alexander/Keller or was it just because Lew Jack is a midget?
  10. I don't follow the logic here, what gets you from Shaka to Parker. If anything I think Theus (puke) would have the best shot.
  11. I'd be shocked if Parker ended up somewhere other than UNC/Duke/Kentucky/Kansas
  12. You're living in fantasy land. I'd be ecstatic to get 1 of 3.
  13. Recruiting talented primadonnas didn't work out too well for Bruce. I can excuse him for not wanting to recruit a kid from Chicago that's already committed and decommited to Texas A&M of all places and comes from the CPL. With that said, hire the right coach (Shaka/Grant) and the recruits will follow.
  14. Just watched Bruce's presser. Fighting back tears. He loved Illinois and loves being a coach. Wish him nothing but the best moving forward.
  15. I think makeover is quite the right word. If Howard stays (I like the move making him interim head coach), I don't see much roster upheaval coming. Obviously Jerrance is key to keeping the players/commits we have now, much more than Bruce was. Keep him and make a good hire and I don't see any real program "downtime" (outside of this year). Even if we just lose Leonard I think the team can snag a tourney berth next year, given the aforementioned things happen. As for the revelry, it's a positive move but like I said earlier, it's not without it's downside. Weber is a really, really good guy and it's a damn shame he wasn't a better coach. He is a very honest, genuine guy. I agree with everything you've said. I gave some thought to the idea of dumping Jerrance, but I think we need to keep him on staff for the reasons you mentioned. These young guys will need some continuity, and I think getting Jerrance to buy into the next coach will be key. There's just been so much negativity hanging over the program, going back to the infamous car crash, that I don't think we ever got our feet back underneath us. Every program has its problems, but I think when the decision was made to keep Smith around, we really lost our way and put talent ahead of developing a culture of teamwork and accountability.
  16. I thought there would be far more revelry. Thank god he's gone for ever. Great guy, but the pressure got to him. If we hire Reggie Theus, I'll puke. I'll take Shaka with a side of Snacks for a total program makeover please.
  17. One defense on Cole vs Hummell: Cole's dad played on the Rose Bowl team in the 80s and he was from Peoria. It was important for Illinois at that time to keep that pipeline open (unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a lot of high major talent coming out of Peoria in recent years). Hummel had similar ties to the university, but Cole's ties were much stronger to the athletic department. We declined to play the game with Max Bielfeldt (his family's name is on the athletic administration building, and Meyers is dating his sister) and its going to kill us in the coming years.
  18. I just wanted to say I love Bill Self, he's among the best coaches in college basketball, he develops big men better than anyone, and I wish he was still coaching Illinois.
  19. Great to get a win. If they play with that sort of effort all season things would be much different. It was nice to see Sam have a good outing.
  20. Adam Haluska reincarnate.
  21. Zeller is a four year Hansborough type. There's not much more to max out. He's going nowhere.
  22. Best half in over a month. I still hate this team though.
  23. One thing I'm interested in is how moving to the SEC will influence Mizzou basketball's instate recruiting. You're always going to be sport number two in the SEC, and no one outside of Kentucky (maybe Arkansas?) cares about basketball in the SEC. SLU is on the way back up and may provide some heat in state for Mizzou. Kansas seems to always be in the mix for top Missouri talent (Beal, McLemore), and unless you're an elite recruit that wants to play for Calipari or Donovan, there's really no reason to hoop in a remote outskirt of the SEC unless that remote outskirt is an elite program. Mizzou is much more of your typical "state school" than Illinois is though, and from my years in St. Louis I would say the "big city" does a much better job supporting the state school than Chicago.
  24. College sports are not about the fans, they're about money. Repeat that in your head until you believe it. Now consider that Mizzou almost cost Kansas millions of dollars every year for an indefinite amount of time until a football playoff system emerges. I don't blame Mizzou for leaving, but Kansas has a legitimate beef. I also agree with Snood that Kansas' basketball resources are spent better elsewhere. They gain absolutely nothing recruiting or money wise from playing in Missouri, and Missouri has everything to gain. It's the same reason that BCS schools hate playing their mid major little brothers except now it's on a larger scale.
